They are actually old. The platform gates were later installed about 10 years after the station opened. The ones at the Main Station & Fuxing are a few years older than the main ones.
It's called the Bannan line; if you've ever driven a Toyota Prius, the trains' accelerating sounds might sound somewhat similar to that, albeit a bit louder and high-pitched.

I’am now staying in the PH but I miss riding taipei metro because it’s nice and Taiwan is my 2nd hometown country
