Between 2008 and 2014, the Fed purchased about $2 trillion in notes and bonds. According to Fed research, this reduced rates by approximately 100 basis points across the curve. Let's say the Fed wants to influence the MBS market, they can simply buy a large amounts of 7- to 10-year USTs, as they have done in the past. Also, the Fed was buying high yield during Covid (which was crazy) that messed with IG spreads and term-premium through Secondary Market Corporate Credit Facility (SMCCF).
