100% agree. The only "complaint" about the series would be if they would have added more imagery besides the campaign map - not for history nerds like me but for more casual viewers. But that's a minor knock considering how good the map and animations are.

The Desert Storm invasion was Blitzkrieg on steroids, a true turning point for military prowess.
According to the theories of Clausewitz, there are 5 concentric rings or "centers of gravity" for an enemy's power base and you must attack them all in order until you get to the center ring, which is the enemy king. In Desert Storm the US military was able to achieve simultaneity and attack all 5 rings at the same time. Parallel warfare, which up until then was completely impossible. Each attack was systemic, giving the enemy no time to recover, repair, regroup, or adapt to the situation.
For instance you blow up a bridge but you also take out the fuel depot and the power plant. You can't repair the power plant without trucks and the trucks can't get to the plant because the bridge is out and they can't repair the bridge because they don't have fuel. That sort of thing. It leaves them crippled.
Also the air supremacy was so complete that enemy fighter pilots were afraid to launch. It was near-certain death. So they stayed grounded and let NATO rule the skies.
Likewise, the anti-radar missiles were so effective that enemy radar operators were afraid to turn on their radar systems. If they did they would blow up in seconds.
The enemy can't win the war this way.
By contrast, Russia's invasion of Ukraine was incremental and gave Ukraine plenty of time to adapt to their strategies, outwit them, regroup, and more importantly gain support from foreign countries to help them fight the invaders.
Fast forward some 12 years after Desert Storm and you have Operation Iraqi Freedom. Bush Jr. abandoned the Powell Doctrine in favor of the Bush Doctrine. This went mostly unnoticed because what's in a name anyway?
The US military had leveled up again and was now fighting inverted warfare. Start at the king (Hussein) and work your way out. The outermost ring is the enemy military, which was kind of irrelevant when the invading force is using inverted warfare. It's why Donald Rumsfeld told the Army to simply drive right past the Iraqi army and ignore them.
This was a true master class on invasion strategy, and it was 20 years ago. All of these strategies have been codified into standard ops and taught to all the troops. Also weapons have been upgraded to be more in line with parallel and inverted warfare.
Of course the subsequent "nation building" phase after the invasion was a hot mess. The military isn't designed for nation building. It's designed to dismantle an enemy as quickly as possible and as violently as necessary to win.
You can bet whatever toys the Pentagon is hiding will be unspeakably effective in any future conflict.

@@protorhinocerator142I mean if you want another master class by the USA in invasion( more refinement needed on state building) look at Afghanistan. A nation on the opposite side of the planet, mountainous, no nearby ocean or friendly nations, and a determined fighting force had to completely withdraw their remaining forces to Pakistan within in 1 month.

I think that most nations/people do not understand the incredible logistics the US military/citizens had In WWI and II and all wars (and continue today - no one even comes close). we sent not only are brave soldiers but everything they (and our allies) needed. Food, fuel, oil, guns, trucks, jeeps, tanks, planes, ammunition, spare parts sent 4,000 miles across the worlds oceans (while being torpedoed), to the European front and the Japanese front all at the same time. I just want to remind folks that we are not looking for war. If you bring it we will win. Peace, Love, Out!

With all the modern equipment in use during this operation, you may wonder why the USS Missouri and her sister ship the USS Wisconsin were deployed…it was partially the “fear factor”. Both battleships had the massive 16 inch guns, capable of launching projectiles weighing from 1,900 to 2,700 lb (860 to 1,220 kg) at different muzzle velocities, depending on the projectile. When firing armor-piercing projectiles, their muzzle velocity was 2,500 feet per second (760 m/s) with a range of up to 24 mi (39 km). At maximum range the projectile spent almost 1+1⁄2 minutes in flight. Each turret required a crew of 79 men to operate. The turrets cost US$1.4 million each, excluding the cost of the guns. That’s the same as firing Toyota Corolla sedans at the enemy. Plus the Japanese surrendered to the US and her allies on the deck of the Missouri to end the Pacific conflict in WWII. They are so fearsome in battle that a Saudi commander put it after witnessing the might of the US battleships against Iraqi defenses said : "I wish we had a battleship in our navy." Yes, you should continue with this series, including the ground war.

If you happened to watch news briefings on Desert Storm in that time period, it was the first time smart weapons were used. They showed in news briefings the camera images of missles heading to their target buildings before the explosion. Hearing about and seeing video of weapons that could hit precise targets like that was so "futuristic". The Allies dismantled the defenses so quickly and effectively That even though it was a war, you couldn't help but be amazed at how well it was done.

What was bad is the Saudis didn't mind our soldiers laying their life's on the line to help but would not allow our troops to be able to have our flag be seen. So our guys sewed them inside of their uniforms. That wasn't right.

LMFAO! 🤣 The video is using a modern map of Baghdad. I was deployed there in 2009-2010. I'm an analyst and was doing analysis to support both the Dept of Defense (military) and Dept of State (ambassadors), and I was stationed on the US embassy with the Dept of State. I can see the buildings which make up the embassy complex. I can see where my room was, the dining facility, the building where I worked, the ambassador's house, the chancellery, the route I would run around the compound each day. That's funny. The embassy was obviously built after Desert Storm - at that time there was a row of mansions/palaces along the river, where the embassy was later built.

Another good video from a great creator is "The Battle of Midway 1942: Told from the Japanese Perspective (1/3)" by Montemayor it's a long video about a key naval battle for the US against the Japanese during WW2.
As the title would suggest it shows the battle from the Japanese perspective but in the third part the video reverses to show what happened on the American side. Its animated just like this video and goes into great detail about Japanese and American culture and military doctrine to explain why they did certain things.

    @16:50 "you are obliterating [them]."
The first Iraq war may be the more decisive butt kicking in human history. On paper Iraq was no joke but going up against the US was like a top tier boxer fighting the Hulk.
And before anyone gets mad I said US, yes we had plenty of allies in this and they did their part as well. But the US presence dwarfed the rest of the coalition. Also they were far more involved in the ground war and this is about the air war.

Iraq was one of the five biggest militaries by size back in 1991. Desert Storm is seen as a classic case of how modern airpower can completely dominate an adversary when you have air dominance.

It's a documentary about the aftermath of the war where several hundred oilfields were ablazed and a coilition of American and Canadian oil fire specialists were tasked to put them out. I remember a newscaster back then saying that it would take years for the fires to be extinguished...

I was working on a new supercomputer designed to manage millions of data items using a simple English like language and needed little or no programming. The machine did all the data manipulation and returned the result to the requesting device. We had installed it at my work site and I was the database administrator of the new machine. We had visits from government officials interested in the machine.
We had visits from the officials under assumed names of course, and I know the machine was used by the military. The machine managed millions of data items quickly and it could be attached to computers, and workstations directly. They were managing 2,000 sorties/day and the supercomputer was the only way they could have managed that level of complexity.
