Seems alot of people had the same issue from 3 to 4 and my 2019 3.5 is doing the same thing. Really bad when cold, but just chalked it up to the 10sd being finnicky. Now ive got some pretty severe low rpm shuttering, and within 5min of riding around with the tech, hes like "were gonna have to tear into the tranny" glad i got the extended warranty 😊

Theres nothing that can be done. Itll be doing the same shit when youre out of warranty. I had the same exact issue, warrantied for a complete rebuild, continue to have issues, been to the dealer but then it turned into "we cant replicate it". I got a video driving down the highway, trans downshifted to 8th, wouldnt budge out of it, it then straight downshifted to 1st at 75mph then to 9th with a huge bang.
I thought there was something wrong too, but it turned out to be bad fuel. The ECU is confused by inconsistent fuel quality. Run it our, use STP Ultra, and run it on the high way.
Hi, you can call Ford motor company customer support and make a case. Tell them what's been going on, and how many repair attempts there have been. They should contact the dealer for you.
My 2020 F150 goes in soon for that replacement drum. BUT. . .Big question IS: Isn't putting in the part only a delay of the inevitable repeat failure? Isn't this a design flaw? Is there a way to get a good transmission, rather than a band-aid fix up on a bad transmission?
I’m very glad I found this video . But I do have a question. My 2019 has been in the shop for this issue 3 times . My truck has a very harsh delayed shift from 1-2 gear and 4-5 . Especially in the morning . It will literally hold itself out of gear for 5-6 seconds and then harshly shift into 2nd . My question is what is Ford’s preferred next step . I already had my valve body cleaned which did not work. So then they replaced the valve body , which did not work as well . Would the next step per ford be to inspect the cfd drum ?
You're better off than me by taking it in several times. I tried to sort mine out with YT videos and forum advice and ended up not taking it in until a month after the warranty expired because i'm an idiot. In the mornings, mine ('18 F150 5.0) would shift from 1st to 3rd, sometimes back to 1st and then slam into 4th after dropping power for 2-3 seconds. A couple times it happened at 25-30mph. Got worse and worse over time. The 'See Manual' light didn't even come on until the drive to the dealership where they told me I needed a whole new transmission. Since I didn't have any documented transmission issues and wasn't the original owner (bought it 1 year in), they didn't cover it. I had a routine service a month before the issues started, over the next 3 months the issue became unbearable and destroyed the whole transmission.
2020 Mustang EcoBoost, 10 speed auto, guess what? I catch myself waiting for 3rd gear to engage, 70K miles, this should not be happening, I drive like an old man, cuzz I am, I'm trying the "reset the learning process from the transmission" But I don't feel any changes. Gonna drive it some more maybe it hasn't forgotten yet! This is my 10th Mustang and I don't like it! Too many issues, low pressure gas sensor, need a catch can, need this, need that! What ever happened to today's cars! The have computarized everything so they can keep taps on how you drive then give the data to the insurance companies so that they know how you drive and adjust your premium! With the way people drive now a days no wonder the premiums are very high! Specially for mustang drivers! I remember my premium for a 1965 Mustang, full coverage was $12.07 monthly! Anybody got a time machine I can borrow!
I have a 2021 3.5 ecoboost, the 3-4th shift has a pronounced clunk, i dont really feel a hesitation but you can even feel a pop when it shifts. All other shifts are smooth. Is this a cdf drum issue? Valve body issue or programming issue?
When the rpms are bouncing, you can floor the throttle and see if either it goes away(torque converter shudder) or gets worse with a flashing check engine light (misfire)
How do I get the dealers in my area to address this issue? When I take it in they say it’s normal and there are no codes. Shouldn’t they be able to see the TSB, or are they just playing dumb until I hit 60k miles?
Ride with a technician to demonstrate the issue. Sometimes it's worse when cold so you can leave the truck overnight and drive with them the next morning
I have the same problem with the same results. Truck has been in 3 times and they refuse to say the hard shifting is an issue. I even rode with and showed them and they still say it's normal operation. I know they are stalling me to try to wait out the 60,000 warranty but it isn't going to work. I've satisfied the requirements in my state to attempt to have it fixed and will now be filing a lemon law claim... I suggest you do the same.
It’s unfortunate that Ford wasn’t honest regarding this when I took my truck in while under warranty. I got the typical bs run around reprogramming and denying there was a problem.
“Well documented” by who? You know nothing about transmissions or what a “CDF from” even is, never mind the fact that there is no “bushing”. Stop playing transmission tech on the internet, you’re a joke.
I'm fighting to have all the revised parts replaced right now, I've already been denied multiple times from multiple dealerships. Shame on Ford for making their customers pull their hair out, dealing with service techs that completely ignore the situation.
Any thoughts on if the shifted bushing issue on the cdf clutch would affect shifting into drive? I’ve been having an issue on my 2020 f150, where gear shifts are slightly worse with the trans up to temp, and additionally shifting from park or neutral to drive results in a harsh clunk as the trans engages. Shifting into reverse causes no such issue. The trans also makes a noise like an old power steering pump during shifts that I can hear from the cab, regardless if they’re smooth or not. I was thinking the cdf bushing may be the culprit after clearing the tcm and adaptive tables, but maybe not if cold starts aren’t an issue
I have 2019 f250 tuned and my trans went out, i just paid 9k for rebuild to a stage 2 trans now i have a noise every time it shifts to 4th, i was told its tightly packed clutches and drum making noise as they shift? Idk but for the price i paid there shouldn’t be any noise. And its the same noise it made when the trans went out on me
