I lived in South Minneapolis a few miles from where George Floyd and Justine Damond were murdered by police officers. The community was completely traumatized. No one talks about the fact that Nazis descended on our streets and a white person burned down the police department and another white person lit the match on the very first building that burned. It was Charlottsville in Minneapolis.
I took a psychology of racism course in college in the late 90's. It was eye-opening and life-changing. The professor has since died, unfortunately, but she was amazing. I'm so happy to see her work being carried on by new younger folks writing these amazing books. 💜💞
So you agree with Ibram X Kendi's basic philosophy that past racism can only be rectified by future racism? He's an intellectual lightweight bozo who refuses to debate other great minds in Blackademia because he knows he would get destroyed.
I've learned many things from Ibram X. Kendi's book: how much I don't know, how I need to keep learning, how I'm not as open minded as I believed I was, how I've missed so much that is right in front of me...my list goes on and on. I want to be better, especially for my grandchildren. In Nic Stone's books, she introduced me to voices I've never heard before. I didn't know that I wasn't listening. I'm very thankful for these two authors. I hope they keep teaching.
This is why they call it indoctrination. They are afraid that their children will learn to be more human than they are. It's why they don't want children to go to the same schools.
I AM WHITE, I HAVE TWO BOYS. I HAVE BEEN TEACHING THEM SINCE THEY WERE LITTLE. EVEN IF YOU DO NOT SEE THE BENEFIT TO YOURSELF, ALWAYS VOTE, DO, AND HELP, WITH WHAT IS LOGICAL, AND JUST. Exactly! Our anger is squelched so much that by the time we expel it, we release it as Righteous Indignation. The whole world saw this during the 2020 protests. And many people in other countries were interested in our causes for the outpouring.

Uncle DL…I havent been this uncomfortable watching a black man speak on TV since Obama’s inauguration. And I love it. Discomfort means growth. Well in this case it’s fear lol. I thought did he just drop the N word..he did! So I text my bestie and we discussed. Conclusion was ‘Oh no, they are gonna come for Uncle…and he dgaf! He wants them to, he’s ready. Loving your audacity and tenacity. Thanks for all you do for our community. Oh and as for white folk experiencing police violence, look up the Officer Goines case here in Houston. Black officers shot up a white couple in their home, no knock raid and wring house. Didn’t make national news because they were poor and lived in the hood. I use this to tell white folk, if all lives matter, then when this happened, why were you not there for this couple? Why are you not speaking to BLM for guidance on how to protest this? If you truly believed that then you’d be shoulder to shoulder with BLM.
You know what grinds my gears the most? Whenever someone says "why you got to make it all about race?" Once I hear someone say that I'm thinking this person is clearly not educated about the system that they live in
IMO, when a white person says that, it means they are a racist, even if they insist that they are not. This comes from a person with enough black in her to qualify as black under Jim Crow, whose ancestor put white on all the children's birth certificates and so mine says white. However, interestingly, I never felt comfortable around white people and always felt at home with black and Latino cultures before I found out I was Jim Crow black.
Ibram X Kendi's basic philosophy says past racism can only be rectified by future racism. He's an intellectual lightweight bozo who refuses to debate other great minds in Blackademia because he knows he would get destroyed. #JohnMcWhorter. The only reason Kendi is still on TV is a white guilt billionaire gave him $10,000,000 dollars for his juvenile at "anti-racism" center.
When I was really young (7-8?) I lived near a laundromat. There was a younger black boy (5-6?) who would sometimes come and look for me to play with. There was day when a problem happened. Our family was friends with another family, and their oldest girl was my age. I was a shy and thoughtful child and also wanted to be everybody's best friend, but was uncomfortable around those I didn't know. So when that family came to visit (a somewhat rare occasion) I was playing with the oldest (M) and the little boy (L) came looking for me. I felt there was a chance M would also be uncomfortable with someone new. So I pulled her aside and asked her if she would mind if my other friend played with us. She said she didn't want him to play with us. I felt bad, but tried to kindly explain that my friend I didn't see very often didn't want to play with him . I didn't understand then why L never looked for me again. I'm not sure when I realized 2 things. That must've been very hurtful to L and his family, and M and her father were always overtly racist . I also realized I shouldn't have asked L what I did, and it would've been better to explain to him about some people and tell him to ask his mom if he should play with us that day. Now I know that, but at that age I still had much to learn. I still have much learning to do, though I'm much better than then. 🫤
So you agree with Ibram X Kendi's basic philosophy that past racism can only be rectified by future racism? He's an intellectual lightweight bozo who refuses to debate other great minds in Blackademia because he knows he would get destroyed.

Not sure if it’s the content this week or DL’s presentation of it (probably a mix of both), but I find myself “favoriting” so many Daily Show videos lately. If he wants the job, I think he’d be a fantastic host.
Leslie Jones and Wanda Sykes are great guest host that really make fun of the obvious problems we have in America. D.L. Hughley really gets into the politics more than Jones and Sykes does.
So many questions as a "white" washed person. I want to do better....learn more....and make a difference in this ridiculous war about skin pigmentation. Applaud D.L. to bring more attention without the justified anger. Thank you.
7:25 Turning inward is key but it must be with compassion and growth mindset. john a. powell (civil rights attorney, head of ACLU) talks about how people are having a lot of anxiety about identity due to changes in the world and it feels scary to them. He says, “If it’s not going to be scary, we have to create the conditions and the stories that help people step into a new space.” Showing compassion towards oneself, turning inward with growth mindset- these things can help people move into the new space. Justin Michael Williams talks about Calling Forward, instead of calling out, which also creates less scary conditions. Resmaa Menakem talks about somatic abolitionism and how racism is embodied. Gabor Mate talks about what white supremacy does to white bodies. James Baldwin spoke about how white supremacy is a self-worth issue. Alyson Stoner talks about shifting our minds with embodied activism. This all requires turning inward.
Glad the book is for youth, that's when people are most easily influenced by peers. I went to a rich almost all white school, I was close to the only three black kids. Two were athletes and held in some regard, the other wanted to be a theater kid and the racism and ignorance was heaped on him. After a few long lectures and getting ready the riot act by me, another semi popular white kid, some people started to listen. As an adult, was sent multiple emails of gratitude for helping my fellow students grow up to be better than their parents and they were happy it allowed them to be better parents themselves and happy to be free of feeling a need to teach hatred to their children, happy for their kids to enjoy the beauty of our diverse world instead of seeing them live in confusion and fear.
Excellent conversation but DL is just slightly overbearing, would have appreciated hearing more insight from the two guests. Superb and moving however, thank you for continuing to shine your lights so bright in the face of such overwhelming darkness.
I feel like when he said that about they're not inherently racist but they do agree with the goals of some other white supremacists for some reason the first thing that comes to my mind is great replacement theory. You want to talk about fueled by racism look at that theory alone
Conservatism, by it's very nature, desires the status quo. To keep things as they are. Why? Because for Conservatives things are working for them. Civil rights, social and professional progress is not a concern to them because the current system works for them. I've seen so many of my Conservative friends have little to no understanding of the struggles of others but at the same time once THEY are at the feet of similar injustices or biases do they suddenly rise to speak out about it. But even as they do so they are simply looking out for themselves and not their friends, neighbors or communities. Kendi and Stone are correct that DENIAL of injustices is the problem but as societies and communities are splintering due to rabbit holes like the internet where one can find solace for preconceived biases it is up to Communities at the local level to have discussions, not arguments, to address how WE can all do better for one another. As the old saying goes, "A rising tide lifts all boats".
I think DL Hughley was the perfect host for this week/these topics. Not every host will like to deal with topics of race or state uncomfortable truths...ie. like the deception of officers in Tyre's case
So you agree with Ibram X Kendi's basic philosophy that past racism can only be rectified by future racism? He's an intellectual lightweight bozo who refuses to debate other great minds in Blackademia because he knows he would get destroyed.
Can't recommend Racism Without Racists by Eduardo Bonilla-Silva enough for further reading on anti-racism. The interviews with well-meaning white moderates and liberals within it are challenging, unflinching portraits of modern white Americans' relationship with race and how "color-blind" racism has survived our culture's outward condemnation of more overt forms of racism through the practices collectively known as white habitus.
I appreciate The Daily Show having this discussion not only in highlighting the book, but also for spotlighting the movement, however I have to ask if your lack of addressing Dr. Ibram X. Kendi with the appropriate and duly earned title of Dr. or the Post-Nominal letters of PhD in the video's title and description at Dr. Kendi's request/wishes? With all that TDS has done over the past few years working to improve social equality by spotlighting issues of racism, bigotry, discrimination, and inequality, while also giving well deserved recognition spotlighting the efforts, accomplishments, and contributions of women and non whites that is long overdue having been all but lost to white-washed history, I would hate to think that it is an accident of ignorance not realizing that he's earned the respectful recognition of attaining a doctorate by addressing him in written form with either 'Dr.' preceding his name or with 'PhD' following his name.
One problem is throwing the word “racist” around. The appropriate term is “white supremacist”. Though synonymous, one doesn’t have to be racist to be a white supremacist, while a racist is ALSO a white supremacist.
DL's comedy reaches people with irony and humor, while Ibram X. Kendi & Nic Stone's contribution reaches the people through formal education and literature both equally important because, in the American Miss-Education system, the meanings and values intrinsic to African Americans' perceptions of themselves and their oppressors from their own perspective and their humanity and worth are not accepted or valued by white society.

Leslie Jones and Wanda Sykes are great guest host that really make fun of the obvious problems we have in America. D.L. Hughley really gets into the politics more than Jones and Sykes does.
This has nothing to do with politics. It's blatant academic blasphemy.
DL is inquisitive and engaging which makes for a better host.🙏🏽💕
Thus far Sykes is my 2nd choice
So many questions as a "white" washed person. I want to do better....learn more....and make a difference in this ridiculous war about skin pigmentation. Applaud D.L. to bring more attention without the justified anger. Thank you.
Anger must be allowed to be felt by the oppressed. How come THEY always are told to calm down?
Love DL on the show!
DL should be the Host - Love him!
Hearing him speak is better than what some of what he's written in his books.
Kendi is better when he is balanced out with older black voices like DL.
I’m confused as a middle aged Italian man, but I identify as a young Korean girl. So how can they tell me how I feel?
DL NEVER a let down👏🏽👏🏽amazing
The race hustlers gotta hustle
Thanks DL for asking great questions.
He should be the host. Well spoken and informed too.
The conversation is necessary!
"When you're poor, you're black too" 👏👏👏👏👏Absolutely
"Poor kids are just as smart as white kids." - Joe Biden.
DL I love your work
Conservatism, by it's very nature, desires the status quo.
DL was in the ZONE last week !! 😎
LOVE DL!! He would be a great host!!!!
Such an impactful conversation. Just adding a comment for the algorithm.
Might make Jon Stewart proud.
He was horrible

Informative and Amazing interview with Ibrams Kendi and Nic Stone!!….D.L. Hughley is Forever dropping GEMS 💎💎❤️❤️🙏🏽🔥💐🥰🙌🏽👊🏽
I think DL Hughley was the perfect host for this week/these topics. Not every host will like to deal with topics of race or state uncomfortable truths...ie. like the deception of officers in Tyre's case
No matter who is in charge, someone will end up as the underdog. I have seen it on micro levels.
Beautiful Conversation.
Well done!
He called Republicans "the Flintstones" I'm done! 😭😭😭 the accuracy
PLEASE MAKE DL THE PERMANENT HOST!
Excellent interview
Sweet interview, Thanks!
DL covers important topics very very well not joking all the time ❤️
All of this! 👏🏾✊🏾
Give DL the gig
DL You got to hold up the books so we can judge the covers.
5:43 I like your book better than mine.
Great Job
Great discussion
That type of blue jacket with that type of yellow shirt looks phenomenal! The guy has style!!!
HOW CAN ANYONE LOOK AT THE WORLD, AND SAY. "IT IS WORKING JUST FINE?"
One problem is throwing the word “racist” around. The appropriate term is “white supremacist”. Though synonymous, one doesn’t have to be racist to be a white supremacist, while a racist is ALSO a white supremacist.
Thank you.
Great story
