Terrific job. Very important to keep in mind just how "normal" he makes these extreme modulations sound. Brian never tries to call attention to himself or burnish his ego. The melodies and overall arrangement make it all sound seamless. This is what's so rare. Zappa could change keys just as quickly, but you often felt like you were suffering whiplash after four measures. Not so with Brian's work. It was all about obtaining a nuanced emotional response. I'd like to see you break down his "Let's Go Away for Awhile." Often called the most beautiful song no one can hum.
As much as I appreciate Zappa, he always seemed to be trying too hard. With Brian Wilson, it all came naturally to him. This song is amazing to me, and not only for how seamless Brian makes it sound.
@@jonathanwhitfield2864 Brian always did everything by ear, is a self taught piano player and never had any theory lessons. I guess this all contributes to making it sound so smooth because he just did what sounded right.
I agree, it's complex, yet the whole arrangement sounds natural and seamless. An absolute great song, the doowop singing, the cornucopia of sounds, the bells & vibes, I like it! Other good songs with extreme difficult harmonies and modulations are Girls On The Beach & The Lords Prayer from 1964 (?). (I'm curious if The Lords Prayer was also arranged by Brian, I believe it is) Later (2012), there's f.e. That's Why God Made The Radio, a less good example. Almost impossible for the backing vocals to sing (esp. live!), nonetheless Brian-Bruce-Mike-Alan-Jeff succeed pitch-perfect in the studio. However, in my own humble opinion, the result as a whole is unbalanced.
I always loved this song. To me it's right up there with all his other great songs like Good Vibrations, California Girls, God Only Knows... Brian wrote so many great songs after his heydays in the 60's. It's such a crime that the radio stopped playing his music.
great job but the climbdown in Db major, when the bass hits Bb that's a Bb/Gb aka IV 1st inversion not a minor 6. You could substitute it but I personally think that's an important color!
Wait wait wait wait. Time out. You mean to tell us that all those sharps and flats not located on the bridge are in the C Key and basically all accidentals? Holy balls... I'm new to the series, so I'm checking out more since I like the Beach Boys that much.
I speak as a AFM member ....1971....have not paid my dues in a while though. Beach Boys Today side 2 may be their best album work. Pet Sounds was a huge disappointment and upon release only sold about 400k ...I don't think Brian was ever the same. It is certain that the BB were never the same after that album. It was followed by the single Heroes and V....which by their standards was a flop. They withdrew from the Monterey Pop, and were never again viewed as a cutting edge band.

Great work. I did have a little bit of a hard time hearing it. I would suggest fine tuning the volume level. But keep up the good work!
Juliet Thanks for watching. I’ll try to get the volume level higher for future videos. Thanks!

Awesome
Nice informative video. it's all a bit quiet though, voice and music, I had to turn the volume up to full.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Agreed, Sunflower was a brilliant album but largely ignored. I do not believe there was a single that charted.

Kinda low volume...either that or im going deaf-(no comments please...haha)
I love the Beach Boys but you should do The Beatles because they have written so many genius melodies.
