You missed my favorite one. You can use a pine branch to filter muck and bacteria from water better than many charcoal filters. Fill a bottle with pond water, seal a debarked pine branch to the opening, and let the water filter through the branch. About a foot long should remove everything including E. Coli.
--Whatever you're about to post as a reply to this, check the comments, I probably answered your question--
Thank you. Very useful information.
Any idea how much water can be filtered safely before needing to use another stick?
Fascinating thank you for that!
Thank you.
Those are NOT pine needles. They are spruce or balsam.
ASKING FOR PRAYERS FOR my hubby, Brian. He's been going thru Chemo and Radiation for Cancer. His new scans show 7+ new spots in his liver. Prayers are greatly appreciated.🙏✝️❤️🕊️💜🌹🪻
PRAYERS HOPE HE FEELS BETTER😊
GOD, LORD JESUS. Glorious, Holy CREATOR. Please bring a healing upon Brian. Comfort him & his wife. Let your Grace & Mercy show those around him that you are The LORD ALMIGHTYGOD. Humbly ask this if it be your will, that YOU GOD will bring healing to him. Thank You JESUS
Look up the Burzynski Clinic in Texas and Riordan Clinic (high doses of IVC).
Doctors and medicine will help him...prayer kills
@@MoralsOfAnAlleycat24 Shut up, you don't know what you're talking about.
Talking about pine but waving around a balsam fir branch.
Yes, I noticed that . White pine have 5 needles per cluster Spruce and Fir are a single needle
balsam fir is still a pine tree.
@@johnjenkins2024 a balsam fir is a fir tree. A pine is a pine. Both are conifer trees, if that is what you are getting at.
@@johnjenkins2024Balsam fir is not usually referred to as a pine but rather as a conifer needled evergreen… While in the overall Pinaceae family it is actually a member of the Pseudotsuga Genus where ‘true’ pines are members of the Pinus Genus. The term Pine used to refer to refer to the Pinaceae family is actually more just a broad categorization of primarily needled evergreens, but, also includes scaled non ‘needled’ species like cedar & even also includes some non evergreens such as larch . Using the term pine for specific species identification is actually considered among most horticulturalist to be more of a misnomer as it only aids in confusion among different species without laypeople truly understand the differences between each.
I noticed too. Also, just an fyi for anyone who lives around Ponderosa Pines, they are toxic.
MORE videos like this, please!! The more wild, natural products that can be harvested, the better.
They say that nettles is very high in nutrients.
Nettles, yes. I fill a jar with fresh nettle..cover to top of jar with apple cider vinegar. Put lid on, sit 6 weeks. Strain plant material and use vinegar in cooking or take a spoonful daily as a supplement. You can do it with lots of edible weeds. They contain minerals we rarely get (in farmed food) but need. I make big jugs of it and use it all year long.
@@RunninUpThatHillh interesting. I heard that nettles is more effective as a tincture like that. Ac vinegar or with grain alcohol.
Hello everyone... Yes, I know it's a spruce, but it has the same properties as the pine...
I have recently moved off grid to property full of Ponderosa pines. I understand that Ponderosa pines are toxic to humans and lead to liver damage. So they should not be consumed. True?
Whew! Glad you said explained that!
Lol Spruce needles white & black grow all around the branch what you had was balsam 🙄.... prepper .... dont quit your day job
What to think. Openly admits incorrect labeling. But you’re supposed assume it’s not a big deal. Not the type to assume, so moving on……..
@@ar1701...😂
Swedes drank this during the war and it's said that we never been healthier than then.
It cures the worst cold in a few hours.
Prayers for your Brian. Miracles DO HAPPEN. Praying one for You…..✨🙏🏼✨
Vitamine C is also in Daisies, nettles😊
Grow a patch of Sunchokes in the back corner of your yard. It will look nice, like small sunflowers, provide birds with food, and the roots make a potato-like vegetable.
Very sustainable stealth gardening technique that will spread on their own with no maintenance.
Girasole are not pines.
I'm surrounded by pine trees. Thank you, Goshen!
NOTHING NEW, INDIANS NATIONS KNEW AND USED THEM. EARLY EXPLORERS LEARNED FROM INDIANS, JACQUES CARTIER, CHAMPLAIN, MARQUETTE , LA SALLE, ECT....the women did too if they were 5 days late hum!!!
The cambium layer under the bark can be turned into a kind of flour. Norwegians use it, considered a delicacy. Called pine flour or bark bread.
Sure can..cambium is also called spaghetti of the forest as it can be cut into strips then eaten raw, boiled or cooked over fire..worth experimenting with different pines, spruces etc because some have an acquired taste.
Toast it and eat it like chips.
It's edible, but doesn't it slowly kill the tree? One would have to expect to lose the tree if harvesting the cambium.
@@lyndaniel3369 Yes, I believe I read somewhere that you only harvest small patches unless it’s an emergency.
@@lyndaniel3369just don't girdle the tree. They can survive as long as there is a continuous strip of bark that runs the length of the tree.
These short folk knowledge vids are the bomb! Keep ‘em coming!
The sample that you are showing is Spruce not Pine ... correct me if I'm wrong ...
However they both have natural remedies etc...
Enjoy your show....thanks for keeping us updated ...
Fir .spruce has much stiffer and more blue needles.
@@greybone777 They are spruce trees. There are many types of spruce. You are probably thinking of the blue spruce (called Picea pungens 'Glauca'). Most spruce trees are green.
It's very ignorant for this 'information' video to talk about using pine while showing a spruce. Just people who know nothing; stealing ideas from other videos.
We call spruce...pine.😐
There isn't a single pine tree in this video. Those are Fir and Spruce tips you are showing.
I dont think he knows the difference
Yep & some people are allergic to fir, spruce, juniper AND pine trees.
Yes my thoughts exactly this guy is clueless when it comes to tree identification!
Balsam fir to be exact
She said not to use yew needles not spruce.
Pine gum resin is antiseptic, antimiticrobal, anesthetic, antifungal, and a couple more anti's that slip my mind at the moment. It has acid elements, and you can make flux for sodering with it. Good for a toothach, and I used it one time to stop some pain in my groin, and it worked well. I'll be making some pine tea real soon. Thanks for the vid.
While camping at the campground in Carver, MA I used pine pitch for a cut. Being sticky and gathering dirt and gunk, healed up in a few days. Nature's Neosporin. Used pine needles and cones to start my campfire. The inner bark can be eaten as well, the cambium layer. I've heard it referenced as "bark bacon".
Great that you are talking about pine needles but you were showing spruce. You should refer to conifers in general that have those properties you mentioned.
I like these new style videos.... and that you are including Naomi. It's great seeing the family involved. Keep up the tip videos. Thanks for all you do!
Thank you, I never would of thought that I live in a vitamin c rich forest. You and your daughter work well together, very refreshing. Would like more of this type of content if possible. As much as I enjoy many you tube content creators I can't take much more of ww3 rhetoric and outlandish headlines. Just my 2 cents worth!
Yew tress are very toxic..Siberian pine needles are an antiseptic .
Pine sap also has a ton of uses from being a natural firestarter to adhesive to gear repair! It's natures gorilla glue.
Smells better, too!
Maybe try making a video on recognizing Ponderosa and White pine from other pine needles.
We love your daughter !
Wtf? 😂
That tree looks like spruce or fir, not sure if they are interchangeable with say white pine, though that would be great information to have.
Rose hips grow in Michigan and they have loads of vitimin C
I like these ideas. Write them all in a book for whenever I might need them. Thank you.
I really enjoy this new cohost situation!
This time of the year is the best time to get pine needles for nutritional value. I put some in my freezer.
Very good advice...Going to gather some as soon as Sabbath is over... Is any size good? I have some loblolly saplings that I can harvest...most of our pines are sky high.
I pick Eastern White Pine needles & store them in the freezer as well.
Spruce buds are great, too. This time of year is perfect.
Great info! Give us more!
Love, love, love these videos ❤❤❤
Awesome post, Goshen. Thanks!
When I'm out in the backcountry, I just gently grab a pine/spruce/fir branch and pull hand-over-hand, to clean my hands. It removes dirt, especially when damp, and naturally disinfects. And this doesn't damage the branch (you can do this indefinitely).
Reminds me of watching Yul Gibbons on TV when I was a kid.
"Many parts are edible". I think we're old 😅
EUELL Gibbons. "REMINDS ME OF WILD HICKORY NUTS). 🙂
Yes, I love learning more about God’s remedies He created for us for all our needs!
He also created the ailments.
@@bermudarailway No He did not create the ailments...we did by our ungodly lifestyles that make us sick....and then most turn to harmakeia instead of Jesus when we do get messed up. .God allows our aches and pains to try to wake us up...and so we will turn to Him in time of pain/distress. I've been dealing with chronic issues for 12 years from a tick bite...been hell on earth at times...If I had not turned to Jesus...I would most likely not still be around. So I praise God for being with us during our times of trials. It is Satan that created most of our ailments we are experiencing now...in the food system/ water...and plum island....even the clothes we wear are toxic.
@@bermudarailway Many of our modern day ailments are caused by how man has introduced chemicals, and pollutants into our environment. People thought they were so smart and invented and synthesized these compounds.
@@bermudarailway….their manmade, so called ‘safe & effective’ poison caused most of the ailments & deaths.
Believers don't deny this.
Really like this video, please do MORE of these videos!
WE WILL NOT GO HUNGRY, RAISE RATS, ROCHES, MUSHROOMS IN CELLARS, BON APPETITE,
Please give out a list of pines that are not safe to make into pine needle tea. For instance, ponderosa pine. Because some pines are toxic, even if you're not pregnant. Thank you.
I thought I read somewhere not to use loblolly pine.
This video was great!!
Be careful - I learned the hard way. Should've realized if the pine pollen made me sniffle and sneeze every spring, I probably should've been cautious abt. making tea with the needles. I made a nice tea last yr and had a lousy allergic reaction... swollen lips, itchy mouth and throat, miserable feeling just after a couple sips. It is a great resource for folks who aren't allergic though.
Thanks for the heads-up news! If pine pollen gives you allergy symptoms, don't make tea to drink! That is important to know.
What a fun video. Are there any pines you cannot use?
Love the outdoor hands on format Eric! Including Naomi is pretty nice as well.
I have pine tea. Except. I was told to only use the 5 needle trees. Correct?
My mom and grandma used to exclaim "GREAT LAND O GOSHEN" LOL! I love videos like this so ya'll just earned yourself another subscriber.
One should not use boiling water for pine tea as the heat will destroy the vitimine C. Warm water would be best.
Vitimine ?
@@bradweir
I think people will have no problem with working out what was meant ! 🙄
@@lynnepostings 🤯
Off the boil. As is often the case said for making tea.
Steep it folks😁
Aside from the yew tree, any other that is not good?
A video to show and identify various types of “pine” would be well appreciated!
Sun tea . Pine 🎍
Ponderosa very abundant where I live also Jeffrey almost identical to Ponderosa. Many other in genus including Pinion,Lodgepole, Coulter etc.
Those are spruce trees.
Anyhow. They also can be rubbed between your hands to release the oils and then wipe on your neckl etc for a mosquito repellent
Oh, how I need that repellent! Thank you!
Great video. I like learning about the old ways.
I made 'Pine Needle Tea' during wilderness survival training back in the 70's (Boy Scouts USA). Great advice!
Thank you for the tips for SHTF.
The Eastern White Pine is what I use to stretch my lemonade as it has a lemony taste. That's 5 needles per tuft for identification and with long sticky cones. Unfortunately, stores won't sell it due to some blight killing them off. It's why you can't (legally) have gooseberries in Virginia as it's a carrier or something.
That looks like a Doug fir branch , i live in west Washington loaded with fir trees
Hoss, that little limb was a Douglas fir. But those will also work as a mild tea.
Boy am I grateful for this information & for knowing I have a Ponderosa Pine in my yard😉
How do you even reach the needles? Those things grow and grow!
@@lyndaniel3369 they fall constantly
Like seeing you outside . Learned a few tips today.
I love this! Looking forward to more. Well done both of you.
Really enjoyed this video ! Your daughter did a fantastic job. I would like to see more videos like this. God bless❤️
Spruce tips from the trees make a great tea & has healing properties..used it alot in SE Alaska! Used pine needles too when I lived in Lake Tahoe California...
Myself and my family appreciate your services Sir! Be well!
I love pine needle tea, used to make it all the time.
Does this work for just pine trees? Most conifers? You’re showing a spruce tree in your video.
love you two. Keep up the good work
Don't forget the Cambrium layer of pine trees is edible. Or the sap & fat wood makes an excellent fire starter.
Awesome! Our ancestors survived without 'modern' conveniences, or we wouldn't be here. More videos like this please and thanks!
Love these short, to-the-point clips. More please.
Good show thank you it's appreciated from far north Minn

LOVE IT! First 'in person' nature video I've seen and it's great. Nobody really does these and I love learning by seeing so I hope to see many more. Really nice family moment too! Best part for my survival? I learned something completely new that I'll share with my hubby!
Fantastic, thank you! You can also use hazel twigs for tooth cleaning. You can chew the end to make it a bit more brushy!
Love learning about these things!
Excellent information guys! More of these please!
Thanks for the video. Just about everyone has access to pine trees.
Nice presentation. Straight-forward as well as educational...
Thank you very much for your video - lots of useful tips and I have used it as a starting point to find out lots more. 😃
Thank you!!! I have never heard about this before!! Great information to have, " just in case " !!!😊
Hi Naomi & Eric
I like this video about using natural herbals. A number of years back I remember the violet jam/jelly video and then maybe your violets have already bloomed by now.

Thanks folks!
Wow I had no idea! I’m surrounded by pine trees. I’m going outside right now to see what kind they are.
Pine sap and ash makes glue.
Eating inner layer of bark.
Pine sap as an accelerant.
Eating the pollen.
Eating the pine nuts.
Branches as bedding .
Pine sap for wounds.
Great video. Looking forward to more of same, better than sad video
I'll have to try the pine needles with my tequilla
Great video, I learned something new. Thank you both.
Thank you Dr. Eric and beautiful Naomi for sharing your outdoor prepping videos with us. These are great. Blessings to you ❤
Thank you, this was fascinating!😲❤️
In my country l used black sage stem to make a tooth brush, the taste is stronger than pine. Thanks for sharing.
you missed one use sir ,marm the pine resin its a glue used for short term use to cap a tooth cavity.
Thank you
What is a U tree?😮
I love the short duration of the video. Thank you! I only have short breaks at work and these short videos re- energize me. Could you do more of this style? Especially about pine needles? Maybe a real demonstration of how you use pine to brush your teeth, etc. Thank you!
Pinecones meake excellent fire starters with the pine oil in them. I use one pinecone for fire in a small cookstove and that usually made my morning coffee.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Great video.
You keep talking about pines while you hold up a spruce branch.
He knows
Yes, pine needles does make great tea, thank you loved this video
And also the sap ( pure gum, turpentine, ) is a great anti-inflammatory I use it mixed with Castrol oil - Quarter cup, turpentine mixed with three-quarter cup Castro oil you can add more castor oil to the mix if the turpentine amount is still too harsh on the skin ) to get rid of any bug bite and Thank you for your great information ❤
I've had pine needle tea before it's actually very good and you're right about the vitamin properties My grandmother used to make it for the grandchildren and put honey in it for when you have a cold
This is a great video. As mentioned, you just have to be careful to avoid Yew (hemlock), but these are usually easily IDed by their berries and small size.
This was a cool video. I knew most of that except the homemade pinesol recipe I use the pine tea every time I’m camping and the same for teeth cleaning. Great information for everyone guys. I subscribed and look forward to more cool information on self reliance.
Love this! Thank you

Your daughter is so lucky to be learning all this first hand
You're holding what looks like Douglas fir. We have tons of different firs out here in eastern WA. We have ponderosa and lodgepole pine. White pine is rare and becoming extinct because a needle blight.
doug fir is actually not a fir it is ...surprise, a type of pine.
Loved the Pine Sol tip!! :D
