I see a lot of negativity in these comments around his lack of safety wear, the room he's working in, and most of all his use of power tools. When I watch this man work I see someone living, enjoying thier life. I see an artist using tools available to him to create a one of kind piece of work. So instead of shaming someone for not doing things the way we think they should be done, instead enjoy the fact that he is showing his way of doing it.
I disagree. He is making a video for thousands of people to see. He dropped an ax on the floor next to his slipper covered foot. To me that shows no respect for his tools and an accident waiting to happen. He is using a drill while he holds the project unsecured. Maybe this set-up was for the camera, but I would not want anyone watching to think it was ok and hurt them self.
Every artist uses a different technique to create a work of art. I use traditional carving tools and power tools to finish my spoons, kitchenware, and cups. Your work is very nice and gives me inspiration. Thank you for sharing your wonderful skills.
Grazie
How many of your viewers noticed that at 7:22 you can see an old red pencil sharpener on his work bench. It sits on a little "chrome base" and has two little "ears" that you pinch together as you pull out the opening ring. After inserting the pencil, as you crank the handle which is on the back side, the pencil will "self feed" into the little red pencil sharpener. I hope all of you enjoy this little retro piece of pencil sharpening equipment. Just to let you know, I still use mine. Warmly, Dr. George Whitehead
Thanks for sharing this. For I ain't got the right carving tools they usually use, you gave me a good idea about how to get started with. Thanks again from germany
I really enjoyed your method to carve the kuska, I'll have to look back at this if I make one as well. Side question, what kind of slippers are those? I want to get a pair!
@@efeeminaksoy Hi, fortunately I saw another video and I learnt they sink kuksa in hot saltywater for about 2 hours and kept it in zipkeep bags for several days. Have good time
Around 8:56, he puts a round container on the desk. It has SALT written on it. It looks to be rock salt or something similar. Not your regular American table salt.
Thanks for sharing your project. May I ask, How can I get slippers like those at 1:20? They are beautiful and look very comfortable. Thanks again from the U. S.
This is a "green wood" carving project usually done with a small axe and hand carving knives that only work easily in wet fresh wood. Never seen these projects boiled in saltwater but it may be a perfectly appropriate thing to do. Usually the carved pieces are stored with the wood shavings for a while to slowly dry to lessen the possibility of cracking, then final finishing cuts are made.
It also leeches out the tannins in the wood, which can give an "off" taste in your beverage. There will be noticable cracks during this process. They should retract once dried properly.

If you're boiling water in an open container then it will be somewhere around 100 degrees Celsius. Anything higher than that and the water will be a gas. I say around 100 degrees C because it depends on your elevation as well, higher elevation means lower pressure and a lower boiling temperature.
A hard way to make kuksa. I use only an axe, one chisel, one smal carving knife and one curved carving knife. Anyway, if you had these tools and you have the pleasure to do it i'm sure you enjoy your coffe when you have a project, because the kuksa it is made by you. :) Have fun! :)
Well done, nice design. However, wrong choice of wood for traditional kuksa. Kuksa is made from burls, so that the grain of the wood goes in the direction of the cup structure.
I used to think the only way to do it was with and axe and knife. I now see that the most important thing is the end product. Why not use power tools to make something beautiful? It's not like were caveman anymore.
This tree has fallen in a storm.
Could you add English subtitles please? What was with the water in the stove and what was the powder that you put in with it? Thanks
@@tankerzuke Salt, its what people ususally use and it also says so on the container.

its funny how people can find hate and negativity in everything. This is amazing art. All I see is positivity here.
Great work!
Good way to make a Kuksa. I am about to make one. This gives me another way. Thanks and take care.

Not sure why anyone would have anything negative to say about this work? Looks good to me! I might make one too!
Great job! Thanks for sharing

Beautiful. What kind of wood is best? How long do u let it dry for?
I made it from cherry trees. Originally it is made of birch trees. When finished, let it dry. Boil it with salt so it doesn't break.
Cherry is absolutely my favorite wood to work with I I am currently finishing a walking stick made from the same wood
Can you please explain to me the part the kuksa was in the water and the powder used to put in the water?
Nice wee video🎣
good to see that you can use day to day tools. will give it a go .
What is the tool called.. you use to make the hole.. for the inside of the Cup. ??
Awesome video! What kind of wood are you using?
Good work.
what do you add when you put the cup in the water?
What was the powder he put in the water to soak the koska in?

What kind of wood did you use? It looks beautiful
What does he do with it in the pot?
...
Why did he add salt to the water? And in the oven? I did not understand this!
It's to cleanse the wood of any contaminants, also some say it helps stabalize the wood so it doesn't crack when going from wet to dry so often.
Que muy Bonito tu tarro para cerveza
The best songs for this kind of video! I love it!
What was that powder? English translation please

it is not necessary to boil in water and salt to prevent it from breaking, if it is with dry wood? just oil?

What's with the pot of water? Anyone
he says "Boil it with salt so it doesn't break"
Pete retired every days a school day. Thanks
What does the saltwater boil do to the wood?
I have the same question
Scratch that, it is answered above. It's for hardening the wood and making it difficult to break.
It also leeches out the tannins in the wood, which can give an "off" taste in your beverage. There will be noticable cracks during this process. They should retract once dried properly.
