I discovered this property while researching my family history a few years back. I’m from the original East Coast branch of the family, but we have several estates in Virginia and North Carolina as well from my branch of the family. The Rust Manor house in Leesburg, VA for example is also a historical landmark now. I will have to come check these properties in Tacoma out at some point, and visit the town of Ruston! I moved to Tacoma in '82. People who grew up here my age told me about the mystery and mystique of the Rust Mansion and the stories of how Grand it was suppose to be and how Neglect? lack of funds had taken away its luster. The pink stone of the outside was actually pink and not just far faded white. It's great to finally see a peak of what is a landmark and some of what is inside. I understand why Ms. Burks cannot allow a public open house, she is both a restorer and investor to sell real estate and the contractors once finished their work is done and that includes clean-up. Thank you Ms Burk and all the workers, and sometimes in life a bit of mystery leads to very positive imagination, what is possible, and it doesn't have to be in a private mansion for a few, but in designing Public spaces taking a bit from the past.
