Really enjoyed this I'm glad you aren't giving up on it. Looking forward to the next video, hang in there you will get to the end of the problems in the end and know it is put back together properly!
With how much different hidden parts of the car have been carved apart, and you said yourself you picked it up from a dodgy area, it could very well have been used to smuggle something. What other reason does someone have to cut through the weather membrane to access the door cavity, or for the interior door panel to apparently be quick release? Bumpers, under back seats, fuse boxes and behind/in the dash are all good places for stashing stuff you don't want people knowing is in the car, and sealing the drains in the passenger's door could have been an attempt to reduce the odour of some substance hidden there from leaving the vehicle for following traffic to smell. If the details held against the car/reg were part of an ongoing investigation then it won't show on civilian data checks. If you think about it, criminals could just check their reg every now and then and find out exactly when their vehicle gets pinged and move it on at that point. They could also have put your reg on a similar vehicle after your purchase and it been stopped for those offences, so your reg pinging ANPR cameras on a long trip would alert them to what would appear as another run between counties/cities with whatever they were smuggling before. I'm not ignoring the fact there are a few bad officers out there, I'd just like to remind that they are a minority and they could have had genuine reason for stopping you in that car, even if they didn't act the most professionally in your interaction. Again, names associated with the car in their system could also be flagged for their own reasons, so an officer stopping you, not knowing you or the other people, may have the image painted for them that they're walking up to a car with a driver who hates them because of their criminal background. They could have assaulted police in another stop for example, or be known for driving under the influence of a substance, something a traffic officer could be understandably passionate about clamping down on having had to deal with the consequences of such, or pictures the suppliers as part of that problem so treats those there's information against with equal contempt (whether intentional or not). It's not perfect, it's not great if they don't change their attitude on discovering you're not who they were expecting, but do at least understand the potential perspective they're coming from before jumping to 'hating police'. Without them we'd likely have constant looting and other violence, dangerous driving and hit and runs as a result (to specifically mention traffic police). As the police numbers are reduced, we seem to be drifting that way, but that's besides the point here. The point is the vast majority are just trying to do a job where their 'customers' hate their guts, even seeing them as less than human, less than dog excrement that are just to be driven over so they don't have to answer for their lack of respect for anyone else or their property, etc. the majority are good people trying to make a positive difference to the country, unfortunately they're often the puppets of stupid political rubbish like 'speed kills' that they can't ignore if they want to keep their job. Hate the politics, hate the actions or criminals that ruin it for the rest of us, hate the actions of the *individual* officers who abuse their position, but don't paint the whole police community with that brush. We're petrolheads that enjoy modified cars and occasionally driving fast, but we, I hope I can say we, do it responsibly. Would you appreciate someone who sees a joyrider flying through a crowded city centre in a car with the exhaust cut at the manifold and cut suspension and thinking 'those car people are all lunatics endangering the lives of the civilised population that need to be thrown in prison', automatically grouping the true petrolheads, us in with them because we drive faster than them in a lower louder car on quite B roads? Of course not, so don't 'hate police' because of the actions of a single or couple of officers out of the thousands employed across the UK. I hate speed limits. I dislike seeing officers enforce them or vomit the same political rubbish blanketing not obeying speed limits as being dangerous without any other context because reducing the speed is the easiest out to pretend they're caring about road safety. I could rant for hours on how driving to the 'advanced' level makes even speeding by a significant margin in the right conditions perfectly safe. But I don't hate the police as a whole, specifically the majority of their officers, for it. Reg Local is a former traffic officer, police driving trainer, etc who has a channel on youtube of the same name. He has a video about speed where he talks about it on the public road, and he identifies how speed in and of itself isn't what makes the roads dangerous. Being distracted, under the influence of something, etc at any speed will see you crash and potentially kill someone or yourself, and those acts can also lead to you exceeding the posted limit because they prevent you from having full control or awareness of what the car is doing, speed, position in lane, etc. Reg represents the police even when retired, but as an individual has the sense to see what is actually dangerous on the road, etc, so isn't to be hated for the politics even he disagrees with, but if you hate 'the police' then you're hating him for his chosen career when he is actually closer to us petrolheads than he is to those who make the laws he had to be there to enforce that we disagree with, and I'm sure he would love to see the back of those hypocritical and power-hungry colleagues as much as the rest of us non-officers.
I was going to say that. Also as far as I know the police can search any vehicle on the road if they have any reason they feel might be appropriate. In this case he has noticed something, investigated in a nice way, and then let you go... Honestly I don't see what the issue was
@@jondrummer1989 Not really exactly stopping the car to check road traffic offences or whether the vehicle is road worthy they are in true reality fishing.
@@marklittler784 As you said the car had a police marker on it.... I doubt they would walk up to the car and say, this car has drug markers on it, because then if it has the driver if they do have drugs are going to just floor it. We don't have any information on what police intelligence was on the vehicle previously. The owner even said he got it from a rough area.... I would expect then it possibly does have a dodgy past. The officer can only act on what information is given him. He checked everything he needed/wanted to in a very professional positive way, and then even said he shall request the system to be updated so that this doesn't happen again hopefully. I don't see how the police officer did anything they weren't supposed or allowed to
@@jondrummer1989 Everything the officer did was fine, up until he dived into the car pulling out the bluetooth speaker, wrap and breaking a piece of wooden trim in the process. Needs permission from Serg before performing a search if suspected something.
@@BaldTyres as this part wasn't on video it was hard to hear what you are describing, but from what I can hear on the audio I don't think I could hear him "diving" into the car or pulling anything out. Also the police do not need any special warrant as long as they have reasonable grounds to do so. This can be intelligence linked the the vehicle or something that they see during talking to you. I would say the officer didn't really do a full search but maybe the look of it caused suspicion, but it seems as soon as he looked behind the speaker and heard your passengers explanation then he was satisfied. Maybe you've had a bad experience with the police beforehand and that means you have a bit of biased to all police being bad I don't know. But certainly from what I can hear and see the police officer did nothing wrong. But as I said, we can't see the officer enter your vehicle. But I don't want this to take away from the interesting video of you restoring and obviously putting a lot of work into that X5. Just don't think it's fair to have such a negative viewpoint being shoved across about the police officer well from what I can tell it was all above board and as I've said before he was very polite and reasonable with you Edit: I've listened with the volume up a bit, and you can hear him rustling the packaging around the speaker, but that's it really

Ah, I know what the problem is... LOL Whoever worked on it before didn't have a 4-legged assistant! Your's is brilliant, or is he? LOL Someone wasn't very caring. Or is it just the population increase? I do like the color blue that has been used. You know I like those new wheels better than the ones that came on it, the new ones look right. Thanks for sharing. I hope you eventually get it all sorted. Stay safe.
Haha yes my doggo assists me by making sure I've finished all the food that's lying around and he likes beer so got to be careful leaving those around too! It is a shame how far the car has fallen since 2015, even having low mileage! Thanks for the kind words, have a lovely day and stay safe!
Police seem attracted to older cars because people use them to commit crimes knowing that if it's confiscated they're losing very little financially like not paying congestion charge or insurance.
It’s a lovely car. But In certain situations it can look quite dodgy. I think the actions of the police officer were appropriate as the people you bought it off did sound a bit dodgy and it was only a couple of days after the car was bought so the info wouldn’t have been updated that quickly.
Amazing to see you get these and persevere through the troubles. I am genuinely envious of your skills, knowledge and abilities and its such a shame to have a nice car like this was bodged so badly! I hope it pays off for you, could be a lovely motor with enough work and money spent on it
