This! Within 5 days after the death of a beloved wife! Funeral is a lot of work. Plus shock and grief. And he cleans the whole perimeter of a pretty big house! It was probably not even cooled down yet, a deliberate rush!
Yes, this! If he was innocent, he definitely would not have tampered with evidence in hoping investigators would locate something to bring justice to his wife's death. I think the husband was definitely involved. Firefighters work too closely with police in these situations for him to claim he didn't know better.
I live 15 minutes away from where this happened. First, everyone who knows Steve says he’s real sketch and has been since school days. Also, Nannette is believed to not just be the only one getting around. The rumor is Nanette was also having an affair with the sheriff and that’s why he’s been so quick to shove it under the rug and be unhelpful. This is also believed to be the motive to why Steve killed Nannette. It makes a lot of sense tbh.
That's interesting! Is there any specific reason that it is believed that Nanette was having an affair with the sheriff? Like how did you hear about this?
The fact that Steve kept downplaying her anxieties especially over that random man showing up at their house makes me suspicious of him esp considering that the cameras were conveniently turned off at that time??
@@SuperMir00 that’s what I was thinking too, maybe he had an outside man do it (which is who she saw outside) that way he’d still have an alibi to support his story. It’s just way too suspicious and seems like a lot of inside knowledge about the house was needed. Plus how could someone turn the cameras off from outside without being seen doing so? Either he told them where they were located and how to disable them or he did it himself knowing they’d be around the house that day. It’s just WAYYYY too coincidental
I found it strange that for someone paranoid and anxious enough to install cameras ALL OVER their home, to suddenly be unconcerned about a creeper on the property.
it's a sweet sentiment but is actually not quite what happened. Nanette was found in the master bedroom with all her pets (cats and dogs) next to her. All of them had been shot before the fire was lit.
Hey Bailey! I sent a case to your email but my idea has a time limit so I’m bugging you again! You should look up the Nova Scotia Massacre that happened a year ago next sunday-Tuesday (AKA MONDAY) !! everyone like this comment so she can do a 1 year anniversary video for this horrible crime! (sorry for sounding so excited)
I’m in Australia but my best mate is living in Nova Scotia so I was following the case at the time, and that was WILD. I hope she does cover it, because there was A LOT happening in that case and it was off the charts frightening.
I remember this case. We all think it was the brother and the husband and think the sheriff was covering it up due to the husband being the fire chief. It was huge news around here. I didn't know them, but we all knew about them when it happened. RIP poor Nanette.
my grandparent's cat cleo was killed when their motor home caught fire out west in nebraska in the middle of nowhere. i was too young when it happened to remember it (i was 13 to be specific, i'm 19 now), but my grandpa told me the story a few years back, so i'm gonna try to tell it. they were camping in their motor home wayyyy out in the middle of nowhere on their way back from staying in jackson wyoming for a month, and something under the motor home (i think it was the muffler but i'm not sure) caught fire. cleo, of course because she was a cat, went and hid under the master bed, which was right above the fire. my grandpa tried his absolute hardest to get to her but he just couldn't reach her, and she sadly passed due to smoke inhalation. there's a picture that's been burned into my memory. it's of the burned and destroyed motor home and my grandparents outside of it crying holding cleo's body. so as you can probably imagine, hearing that her dog died in the fire really f*cked me up tbh. sorry for rambling. have a nice day! 😊
when I was a kid my aunts house burnt down like all the way to the ground and I remember her cat just had a bunch of kittens before that and I was so upset about the kittens 😭
In the Caribbean we have a saying "the same way you get them, is the same why you're gonna lose them" aka: Steve cheating on his first wife, with Nanette and then to have him cheat on Nanette with another woman. Take notes people.
The same thing happened to ny aunt, she cheated on her 1st husband with her 2nd, then lost the 2nd husband who cheated on her. That's why they say "once a cheater, always a cheater"
Bailey, I am from Lacombe. I still lose sleep over this. It’s terrifying and so sad that this family hasn’t been given any closure. I believe that Steve and Brian were involved 100 percent and our sheriff is covering it up. It’s disturbing. I really appreciate you choosing this mystery to discuss because I think people have forgotten about it. Nanette was a lovely woman and I am hoping we can get to the bottom of this soon.
@@kh8690 It's the Sheriff that needs to be investigated/barred from being in any kind of position of power for the rest of his life. And more than likely deserves jail time. But I'm not sure who you'd go to to report something like that.
I am from the Northshore and at the time was living in Slidell and I don't remember this happening at all. Like I don't remember even hearing about it.
I think he believed her, but I also think that when he saw how scared she was of Justin, a teen with a temper, he knew how she would feel if she saw a mysterious man hanging out around the house at random times, and the cameras cut off, especially after Bryan's letters and his release... So I think that most of it was on purpose.. I might be completely wrong tho. That would make sense only if Steve was the (or one of the) murderer(s)

This story sounds like a thriller novel to me. A house in the middle of nowhere, a woman alone all day, suspicious men everywhere, weird guy hanging around the house, her husband not believing her, the cameras always mysteriously off when needed.....
@@cassandrahepp6445 I know it's a bit far fetched but, what if it was steve and his cousin ? Like, I don't know maybe the cousin had something to earn from that..?
@@cassandrahepp6445 Correct, there are other accelerants that evaporate that Steve would have known about, if he had set the fire. I am leaning toward Bryan because had motive and intent to harm Nanette. Bryan had written the threatening letters just months before detailing his intent and eerie details. I would say he also had gained the knowledge to disable the surveillance cameras and likely had done so in his own home. It could even be that both surveillance systems were connected, so disarming one may have disarmed both. Another theory is he reversed the cameras so while they watched him, he watched them. Bryan likely had been stalking, virtually or otherwise. He had ample time with Steve at work. Bryan may have been waiting inside the home for Nanette as she returned from McDonald's and he did exactly what he wrote to her. He could have set the fire and made it home before anyone else noticed. IF the DVR was destroyed, how do they have footage of Bryan at home at the time of the fire, but no other footage? Bryan wanted the police to know he was at home at the time of the fire. Bryan created his own alibi, in my theory.
Brandy Berta Yesss same. I don’t think it was Steve, I think it was Bryan. He likely thought they’d think it was Steve and he could get away with it. I think Bryan killed her and tried to set it up as it was Steve but didn’t know he’d have an alibi all day.
The crazy amount of cameras that he set up to “make her feel more comfortable” is suspish. The fact that he setup cameras at the brothers place really did it for me. He was trying to show that they were there.
Or like he did it for Nanette..? Like maybe he cared about the fact she was scared and perhaps thought that would make her feel a little more at peace? Wierd way of showing that he cared though, but like he's a guy.. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
I feel sad for Nanette, I wish she could have run away to a safe place when she felt the danger. Us women need to listen to our intuition ALWAYS, no matter who tell us to "calm down".
Okay but if Steve wanted to fix his marriage with Nanette, that would've made his mistress mad. Like, set-his-house-on-fire mad. Since she was a firefighter too she'd probs have the knowledge. Maybe Steve was in on it, or found out afterwards and they helped each other cover their tracks. Where's her alibi?
YES YES YES MY FIRST THOUGHT. Or Steve was in on it too, did the women look similar? Was she the one using her card that morning??? I have so many unanswered questions
that's too much work... and it wouldn't be authentic bcoz too many ppl will be involved and she'd be forced to make content she doesn't want. Let's just stay right here, where it's comfy and lowkey 😌😌😌
Wow. With the dog in the car? This is too much! He's been with his side piece for so long the dog is friendly with her and will ride with her in the car?
Check out Robert Welsh! He’s British and a pro MUA. He also does ghost story & makeup Mondays, every other week, which was inspired by Bailey’s series!
I love Bailey, RawBeautyKristi and Jamie French. Robert Welsh is awesome too although I will be honest, I sometimes have to watch his videos on mute though because his accent irritates me (I'm also British but he has a very specific London accent which I struggle with - but his videos are great 😂)
Every ounce of Bailey's success is deserved, I've never been all that in to makeup youtubers until I saw her infusing true crime into it. I genuinely have never loved a channel this much
Why didn’t anyone look more into Steve’s mistress? She worked at the station too and if they were having an affair it isn’t a far stretch to think that she would also know where the dvr was and how to knock the cameras offline.
There are only two things in this world that are certain: 1) Police hate to acknowledge when they get it wrong 2) If you are interested in true crime or like makeup Bailey is here for you on Mondays
Steve has a messed up family. He’s a cheater. His brother is crazy druggie, and his son is another crazy. I feel so bad for her that she had to deal with all of that before she passed.
So, I’m from the New Orleans area, and I remember when this happened. Nanette’s death was absolutely heartbreaking to hear about, and the investigation has been shoddy from day one. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office was corrupt at the time (as are most southern Louisiana sheriff’s offices but I digress) and handled the case horribly. I, can say, however, that even though the case is going on 4 years old, it’s still receiving local news coverage, so her case will not be forgotten any time soon. Thank you, Bailey, for bringing more attention to this case.
This is so weird. I was born in Lacomb LA. Steve is actually my uncle’s distant cousin. My family believes he did it! When they spoke to him it was all about “me.” How it ruined “my” life. Nothing about how he missed Nanette. He lost a lot of weight too.
A woman who got cheated on doesn’t pack your lunch. Not unless it has Aqua Tofona in it. So I’m halfway through and I am ready to place my bet. It was the husband with a gun in the bathroom.
Ok, this is amazing. This was one of the first videos of yours that I watched (LOVE this series, btw). This incident happened less than 3 miles from my home. I walk past the cemetery where her grave is located every day while walking my dog. Recently, several of her family/friends gathered at her grave to mark the 5th anniversary of her death and to advocate for continued investigation. Such an awful, awful story.
It's so weird that Steve is a fire chief yet, no smoke detector installed in his house to notify fire house in instant if there is fire happen. But he took precautions on other things like cameras, storm door whatsoever. And when the husband ignores your worries about something, i bet that husband is not being responsible, not completely loving, and it definitely shows that he's going to distance from you.
Yes glad someone pointed it out i was looking for this, it made no sense for there not to a smoke detector and him having to be called up there by a different person
I really think it was Steve and the brother cooperating together. Steve coached his brother on how to set the fire, he helped doctor the footage since he was responsible for the cameras, let his brother know where the cameras were and actively coached Nanette to relax whilst all this was happening. There is motive on both sides since Steve wanted an easy out to the marriage and knew Nanette was going to leave.
Yep...my thoughts as well. The husband is always the first to be looked at so he needed a solid alibi but doctored all of the cameras to protect the brother. Probably gave him some of the insurance money afterwards and paid the sheriff off as well. It makes me sick that they actually got away with it. They got everything they wanted. Evil won.
@@krystalbrazel8217 Or anything else. Breakfast lunch, dinner, snacks. EVERYTHING would have given him severe stomach discomforts. Oh, we got a call to fire on ABC street? Can't go. Diarrhea. I would have made him MISERABLE.
Considering she was the side woman at some point and they were together for over a decade isn't that hard to imagine all her conflicted feelings about the matter. I know way too much people that let cheating pass cause "I'll give my partner a second chance" or stuff like that so who knows.

Did anyone look into the cousin that lived literally a yard away and called Steve about it? Like he would know where stuff is and his cousin is a fire chief? Ugh. Sometimes our justice system just sets me off.
This is true about debris being in her lung even with small fire. I was recently in a grease stove fire and when I went to the ER to treat my injuries they did my Covid test and the swab came out completely black! I was only in the kitchen for a few minutes.
Worked for the police department neighboring the agency that investigated this case. One day Steve walked into our 911 center to speak to the Captain over St Tammanys Communications Division. I walked pasted Steve as he looked me dead in the eyes and I got the WORST feeling. I felt super uneasy the whole time he was there. I’ll never forget that. This was 2 years or so ago.
@@lillyannadenniston98 I believe he had a hand in her death. She made a great point on her possibly dying the night before. Being a fire chief and having many years of experience in that area I’m sure he knows how to cover up evidence. And there’s no way of telling the time of death. This case never sat right with me.
That’s where I was confused too. Maybe someone he was living with called him? Why didn’t he go to the house and check things out while waiting for the fire dept if he was home?
right i was thinking the same thing. maybe he lit the house on fire after he killed her, then waited until the house was completely doused in flames to then call steve. its a possibility
I live in the city next to Lacombe and never even heard about this story! I don't really watch TV or the news, but usually word makes its way around. This is nuts
It's a possibility that she could've actually packed his lunch. Just because y'all wouldn't do it doesn't mean she doesn't have Stockholm syndrome... Because I'm saying it like this Steve is allowing his brother to threaten her while he was locked up Steve allowed his son to make her feel unsafe and he did that manipulated her fear of his family allowing it to happen that way he can seem like he is making her safe by putting up all the surveillance cameras and keeping all these guns who's to say that all the cameras worked in the first place he put it up there for show but had some actual ones to show her they work... Just a statement in general
Where was the husband's girlfriend at the time when "Nanette" was at McDonalds? Also, poor Nanette: her husband is cheating on her, her son is scaring her, her brother in law is menacing her from prison... Women: get out of this kind of "family", please.
All the while i was thinking... She is so unsafe and mentally under so much pressure by every man in her new husbands life. And then there he is... Cheating on her. What a piece of work! The whole fam is cracked.
The cameras were probably off because the husband was having an affair he didn't want on camera... What's weird to me is a fire chief lives in a home with such bad fire/smoke alarms that it took his cousin calling him to find out and for the house to be fully engulfed in flames for any fire personnel to even get there.
I don't think he was cheating on his wife at home because she stayed home for most of her time in the few months prior to her death.. So I think he cut them off on purpose or gave Bryan spare keys, to come in the house and do it himself, then go outside and just stand there, to freak Nenette out But I completely agree for the second part of your comment, I think that he did receive warnings, but he either turned the notifications off or simply ignored them, because he KNEW that there would be notifications about a *fire* at his home at that time..
Orrrr the cousin started the fire and then immediately called Steve. Why else would he just sit around in his house when there’s a fire right next door? 🤔
I want to cry for Nanette. She was surrounded by people who hated her, had a husband who cheated on her. I wish people would just cut their losses if they weren't happy. Not Nan, but the men. I have a feeling staying wasn't her choice.

The fact that Steve kept downplaying her anxieties especially over that random man showing up at their house makes me suspicious of him esp considering that the cameras were conveniently turned off at that time??
Soooo true!!!! Seems like they were all for show!!!
Yep sounds like he was trying to get her killed and had someone else doing it
@@SuperMir00 that’s what I was thinking too, maybe he had an outside man do it (which is who she saw outside) that way he’d still have an alibi to support his story.
The way he downplayed a random person at the house sounds like he paid a hitman or something if that nature.
That polygraph test was problematic too. The main polygrapher took a day off and later was involved in a whistleblower case against the sheriff.

If Bailey doesn’t cover it send the story to Stephanie Harlowe!! She did a story about a missing woman from Alberta!!
I remember this case. We all think it was the brother and the husband and think the sheriff was covering it up due to the husband being the fire chief. It was huge news around here. I didn't know them, but we all knew about them when it happened. RIP poor Nanette.
I always feel so bad for pets in house fires. I can't imagine how scared and confused they are.
That thought always breaks my heart 💔
Same! 😭😭😭
my grandparent's cat cleo was killed when their motor home caught fire out west in nebraska in the middle of nowhere. i was too young when it happened to remember it (i was 13 to be specific, i'm 19 now), but my grandpa told me the story a few years back, so i'm gonna try to tell it.
they were camping in their motor home wayyyy out in the middle of nowhere on their way back from staying in jackson wyoming for a month, and something under the motor home (i think it was the muffler but i'm not sure) caught fire. cleo, of course because she was a cat, went and hid under the master bed, which was right above the fire. my grandpa tried his absolute hardest to get to her but he just couldn't reach her, and she sadly passed due to smoke inhalation. there's a picture that's been burned into my memory. it's of the burned and destroyed motor home and my grandparents outside of it crying holding cleo's body.
so as you can probably imagine, hearing that her dog died in the fire really f*cked me up tbh.
sorry for rambling. have a nice day! 😊

Also being from the area, it's easy to believe there being a miscarriage of justice.
How do you get the cops to investigate the cops?
I feel this needs to be done
@@kh8690 It's the Sheriff that needs to be investigated/barred from being in any kind of position of power for the rest of his life. And more than likely deserves jail time.
But I'm not sure who you'd go to to report something like that.

Yes! Guys, they swept this under the rug and hardly reported on it. It’s disgusting. She deserves justice and so does her family!
My rage at men not believing rightfully scared women until the day they die is **immeasurable**

Right?? It’s so scary
Steve definitely turned off the dvr when that guy showed up. She was home alone all the time. Who else, but her husband, was there with her?

Steve, as a fire chief, would have been 100% able to start a fire without obvious signs of arson.
But they know it was arson because of the gasoline. That is actually on eof the things that makes me thing it isn't him... or at least not alone.
Yeah you would think since they built their own home he would know what type of materials are more fire resistant.
The crazy amount of cameras that he set up to “make her feel more comfortable” is suspish. The fact that he setup cameras at the brothers place really did it for me. He was trying to show that they were there.
Right why pay all that money for someone else’s home security ?? Super weird and suspish
Exactly!
Or like he did it for Nanette..? Like maybe he cared about the fact she was scared and perhaps thought that would make her feel a little more at peace? Wierd way of showing that he cared though, but like he's a guy.. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️

So, I’m from the New Orleans area, and I remember when this happened. Nanette’s death was absolutely heartbreaking to hear about, and the investigation has been shoddy from day one. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office was corrupt at the time (as are most southern Louisiana sheriff’s offices but I digress) and handled the case horribly.

I thought it was Nanette’s Sad who was a fire Chief.
Basically gaslighting her and her outcries .. scuse the pun.. my opinion only.
Great points!!!
Did they ever question the women he was having an affair with like was she working during this or? Cause could of been both of them
I really think it was Steve and the brother cooperating together.
Hmmmmm. I thought about that too.
Evil won.

So I think he cut them off on purpose or gave Bryan spare keys, to come in the house and do it himself, then go outside and just stand there, to freak Nenette out

She’s just too pretty. It’s not fair to the rest of us.
Even without makeup - just saying.
I want to cry for Nanette. She was surrounded by people who hated her, had a husband who cheated on her. I wish people would just cut their losses if they weren't happy. Not Nan, but the men. I have a feeling staying wasn't her choice.
Wasn’t she the mistress? She should have expected to be cheated on.
I do feel bad for what happened to her though! No one deserves that
Really sad😢
ITS A BIG CONSPIRACY. They’re all in on it.
I mean, idk, but poor Nanette had a lot of suspish guys in her life.
yes, two creeps and man who don't want her anymore ☹️ RIP poor woman
I haven't stopped thinking about this case since I first watched it
