TSU Funk originated at Tennessee State in 1981 by the late Benjamin Kirk, former assistant band director at TSU and former lead arranger for Barry White.
My high skool band director kenneth curry aka( coolaid) used to tell us how tsu funk came about, he said jsu played it against them as a tuba solo first so he said their tubas learned in the stands then played it back but it was just a tuba solo tho then later on the band was added
Grambling doesn't claim that song. Many HBCUs play the song. That's more than likely how Ying Yang Twins came across the song. Shout out to Benjamin Kirk for the HBCU hit!!!
