I know this is a video from a while back, but I needed help on a project now and you were there for me. I lost my youngest brother unexpectedly (only 49 years old) just over a year ago and then my mom (82) a few weeks ago. I'm now the only one left of my family. Long story short: My brother was hiding from us that he'd been homeless for the past several years starting a year after his divorce and his ex-wife and minor sons were going to allow him to be put to rest by the county in a pauper's grave. We were able to convince them to let us claim his body and bury him in a simple ceremony in the family plot, but there was no money for a headstone yet. Then "the virus" happened and my mom fell ill. She had a pre-paid plan, but still my brother has no marker. During her graveside service I made a promise to at least mark his grave until I could get a proper headstone. He was a down-to-earth and simple man who always appreciated my limited talents in crafting and woodwork. I know he'd love that I made this for him. It's hard to get through typing this for you because I can't stop crying. A big reason for my tears is from gratitude. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent with the rest of us. You/ve given me the confidence I needed. I can do this and it will be beautifully meaningful. Thank you.
I am so sorry to hear about your Brother and your Mother. Thank you so much for taking the time to send this comment and let me know this was helpful. I'm assuming that you saw the video on how to make the black tile with the name, if not here it is: ua-cam.com/video/2Ie4Zi1QRUc/v-deo.html The ones I made are holding up great. Good luck with your project!
You’re amazing for that.. I came here also because I found my grandma’s grave and I had to dig up the plot iron ID number to find her.. she’s been buried since 1966 and has no headstone.. I want to change that.. I’m sure you did an excellent job
@@copperamerindian050 @Soat Mon I did complete the project and it looks much better than I expected. I was able to have a granite headstone made for my brother last year, so it has been replaced and I have it in my back garden now. The men who installed the granite marker commented that they liked the one I had made and jokingly asked me if I wanted a job. It took me about two weeks to get it they way I wanted it, but it was worth every bit of time and effort. Copper, I'm sure you will find the information provided by Soat Mon to be very helpful. You can do this. Blessings upon you both.
That's hard to say for the forms as I had the material and you could use a lot of different things. Each stone costs about $5 to make. You just need one bag of quikcrete and one tile, both from homedepot.
Soat Mon Gotcha. I enjoyed your other videos as well. You are quite the handyman that I wish I was. I have to start somewhere and learn, so thanks for your videos. I learn a lot from them
You're right you have to start somewhere. Don't worry about what you don't know just jump in and start making stuff. The more you make the more the successes will start to pile up, you even learn something when things don't turn out as you expected. Good luck with your projects!
That looks awesome but I need to ask you a question, it looks very thin and I’m wondering if it will stand the test of time. Also, you could buy foam letters at Walmart or a craft store and do the letters yourself if you can’t afford the plaque. Just place them backwards. Or pour your concrete in a tote and tip it up sideways so you have an angled block style head stone. Great video though and I appreciate the ideas
Looks nice.... definitely a good idea for those who cannot afford to spend thousands of dollars. They also can purchase a brass plaque and epoxy that to the concrete stone. Your correct the 2 inch thickness is definitely preferred. You can also use non metallic rebar for strength. Unfortunately I, can't recall the name of the non steel rebar. The advantage is it won't rust in the concrete. Great video. God bless 🙏
Wow they are beautiful. The tile with the names on it really make this look amazing. I’m going to watch your other video now where u used the tile. Amazing job tho!!!
Did you use the whole bag of cement? I was wondering if a 60 # bag was enough. Just don't want to mix a bunch more than I really need and have nothing to do with it. Guess I could make stepping stones
what kind of machine was that used to cut out a round imprint on block of wood? Is there a hand held device that one can use to cut out circles or odd shapes of wood?
A quick and cheap way to make a radius it to put a nail in the small scrap, and tie a string to a pencil.(at the length that you want),and make the string tight, trace the line, and you are done!
SO, what is the TIME STAMP in the presentation about the actual engraving of the plate with info??? Did YOU do that? & what is the black plate material??

My dog is getting old, and I want to plan ahead. This helps out a lot. Thank you
Your welcome. It turned out to be a good solution for us.
Soat Mon What was the total cost of materials for your headstone?

If you use my same dimensions you will need an entire 80 pound bag. I hope it turns out great!
Love it, Great job.
Thanks!
A sheet of glass would give you a very smooth finish as well. Just something to consider if you don’t have access to a piece of rubber.
I also thought of a sheet of plastic laminate but didn't have any available. Thanks for the idea.

You can use a jig saw. Something like this would work: amzn.to/2PoGUqf
This is very helpful! Thank you!

Thank you for your comment Debbie!
You could also use some thing around like a bowl or a plate
Very good video. Thanks
You are welcome!
