I was fully expecting a “so here’s my new 2024 yz450” video lol
Same.
nothing like watching a jeff walker vid before the weekend to get hype to ride
go crush it boiii
I'm jealous😂 my bikes broken
Pops is out there straight chillen with the aviators and the classic green jacket on looking like an OG😎. Looks like a night and day difference with the 4.5 though. I too took a long time to realize that stiffer is not always better! Especially on that rigid chassis softer really makes a lot more sense👌🏼
How much do you weigh?
I think you should make a video here and there showing your technique and what you’re thinking when coming into corners and actually demonstrating how you corner and how you jump and just everything. I’d love to know your thought process on everything while riding!
Same here and goals on how he plans to improve certain aspects of his technique for the new season
Setup makes all the difference man. You cannot be afraid to try spring changes. click those clickers far and wide. It only takes a couple laps far out on either end of the clicker to figure out approximately where the sweet spot is if your spring rates right. Then you can take time getting comfortable and go one to two clicks at a time from there if you feel like you need to change something.
It’s easy to forget that these things are really basic to change. It’s just wrapping your mind around paying attention to what the bikes doing and WHY it’s doing it instead of just reacting to it and riding through it. Your fuckin fast dude. No doubt about it. Learning setup is what’s going to get you to that next level of comfort and speed.
Your year chassis has a BIG bind in the rear suspension stroke. Take the shock off and run it through the travel with the chain on. You’ll feel it. Go to a bigger front sprocket and adjust the rear accordingly to maintain the gear ratio you want. It will help get rid of the bind in the stroke. It’s a known issue with that year chassis.
Thanks for the info! Definitely will be trying the 14T front sprocket
This is the way…
I watch your videos every night before I go to bed waiting for the weather to be nice enough to go riding, it’s been a few months so thank you for providing these videos for my inspiration and excitement
Good to here that Jeff Stephen perschall from slidell Louisiana God bless you and your family pulling for you this summer we need more patriots like you and your girlfriend here in the real swamp God bless
As a mid fifties, old rider that’s ridden dirt and street, you’re a rush of adrenaline and smooth! The one thing you’re not, timid. You’ve got one of the best whips I’ve ever seen (I tried and did them back in the nineties…never as smooth as yours!). Here’s hoping to see you on a Nationals podium in 2024!
Well damn 4 seconds is a ton of time! I can definitely see the difference. Glad you just found something to make you way more comfortable! That has to be a good feeling
What i see is that the softer spring gives you more feedback from the bike and the track and you caring a lot more speed with you the entire lap and you look way more relaxed on the entired track amazing track by the way greetings from germany but you looks better in orange when in blue you know
It was fun to see how excited you and your father are at the end of the video. Learning and improving any craft is fun and bike setup is part of your craft. Cool stuff, thanks for sharing.
I love watching Jeff, there’s just something about these videos that I love so much. Go Jeff!
Definitely look smoother and more comfortable man. Well done! Smooth is fast!
You're the only rider who's footage has me reaching for the clutch on my phone! You were definitely feelin it
That was so cool. Love stuff like this. Keep it rolling man!!
TCD crew definitely knows what’s up excited to get my first kit from them.
Bro that is crazy. Just from watching this video you can see how much more comfortable you are with that set up. It’s night and day. It made me feel confident and locked in just watching you. I thought you were hauling ass in your last couple videos but now I can see how ridged it was compared to this one. You kick ass J dub!
Can't wait for more videos!!!
You are looking so good bro! That 4.5 spring really helped!!
Man your looking way better bike seams way more smoother and planted
Bike looks more planted and balanced and you are attacking and pushing much harder because its giving you confidence. What may be universally "faster" may not be faster for you.
Day 110 of Cheering on Jeff: GO JEFF!
Bro wth 110 days been since day 3
Thats crazy, good job
Same boat as you… I kept going stiffer as I progressed and didn’t realize I had lost so much comfort along the way. Rode a stock 2024 YZ and the light bulb went on immediately! 💡
bro just from the first few corners u hit i could tell the difference, i could tell how much more comfy u were and confident in the handling, nuts how much a small difference can make
Can definitely tell you were hauling this time compared to before!!
Yeah we found that you have to go with a softer setup because of the anti-squat they build into the new bike frame. Also, you might want to try the 10mm lower 10mm back foot pegs! Game changer! Good luck this year!
Looking good Jeff.
4 seconds is huuuge dude what a good move
You changed rut's at 6:03 entered in one rut skipped over one and exited two ruts over. That's confidence in your bike setup. Obviously feeling good on it.
Hi Jeff, i think you should try Desertmartin MX track. I think it’s a very good sand track and maybe one of the best tracks around the UK.
Heck Yeah Brother. Even in the video you could really tell how you felt on the different suspension between ride clips. Good to hear you're feeling back to normal.
Take care!
Andrew (aka Paul/ Coops-🤣)
I finally started trying to figure my suspension out over the winter and i feel stupid for not learning how to sooner, was very much in your mindset of keeping to what i know
Hey Jeff, love ur videos!
Could you make a video on physical training for motocross, would really help.
Keep shredding
Damn, you are flying!!!! You always want a harder suspension, but if you find that right in between of it being hard but have that softer compression, you can find wonders in that type of set up especially for hard pack, for sand such as southwick i would stiffen it a little more then what you have it now! Or you could try it backwards for softer spring with a harder compression, but thats when the time comes!!
I know 100% that I don't spend enough time testing and setting up my bikes. Glad you spent the time and got it better dude.👍
Neither do I, and it's so critical. I made a small clicker adjustment on my front fork and got significantly faster in the woods. All my deflection issues disappeared, so i could ride a lot more relaxed and that really helped with arm pump and stamina. It was a pretty wild difference from such a small adjustment.
Ayyy rock climbing/bouldering fixes shoulders and instabilities fairly well maybe give it a try
Setup was always my issue. Only years later do I think of things that could have been done. I always relegated myself to making the best of whatever setup, and was always putting down fast times, so never really realized how good or bad the setup was. It never mattered till you were up against the best drivers, and best motors, in the country then it became clear that it was a necessary skill I was missing. It becomes the difference between top 5 and top spot at the highest level.
Hey Jeff, love your riding style, no hesitancy, your focus is on point.
You mentioned that you were a sucker for sticking with what you know instead of experimenting, so with that I have to ask... have you ridden any 250 2 strokes recently?
I grew up riding in the 2 stroke error of motocross, your confidence & my knowledge suggests to me you would absolutely tear shit up and absolutely love riding a 2 stroke
Unsure if you have much 2 stroke seat time, but I can speak from experience that racing aggressively on a 2 stroke with your speed is so much more fun that on a 4 stroke
Kawi. No question. That Ktm doesn’t allow you to start your lean in as early and it’s visible. I just bought a 24 kx 450 best bike I’ve ever ridden.
looking fast!!!!
Those wheel taps through the rollers 🥵
Just from watching, you can tell how much more your bike is making traction instead of hopping with that new rear spring.
🔥
On fire🔥🔥🔥🔥
Now i need another one!
Looking good bro!! I still think you should try another GNCC 😘
2023-2024 has major chain tension issues. hope you're running about 70-72mm
I’ve been battling this in my head recently as well. Aggressive spring rate for holdup (being tall) or aggressive valving and normal spring rate… I’ve been messing with my woods set up as well and dropping spring rate helped a ton. It’s crazy when you are all of a sudden able to place the bike where you wish…
Was also thinking about how springs behave. Do I want spring action more deep into the movement or less.. seems like it could give different results on the track.
Back2basic question, your sag was set the same on both springs?
Hey man, love you videos! I also have the 2023 ktm chassis. I was wondering what race sag and static sag you are currently at. Also wondering if you measure race sag standing on the pegs or sitting down. Thanks!
You should buy a Racebox mini S and put your phone on the bars, live lap and segment timing whilst on track. Pretty fun!
i cartwheel too often for that XD
Your Dad is an awesome dude isn't he.
Yep!
Bruh! 👍🏽🔥✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽
24.5 is available gonna have to give one a try
Heck yeah
What do u run ur high speed and low speed sag in the rear i could always
Corner better with highspeed turned up and low speed turned down and tightening the spring up a bit but always hurt me in the whoops
Weird, sound volume keeps getting quieter and quieter past few videos. Sounds ok when watching on laptop but when I try to watch your riding on the big screen on Roku its super quiet. Don't know why only your videos do it either. Nonetheless looking great out there. Keep the vids coming. Thanks
Hey man, is your plan still to try and eventually ride super cross and outdoor? Love the vid. Miss riding so much, but I live vicariously through you and some other riders I follow. Keep it up!
Why don't you ride anymore?
@@EarthSurferUSA unfortunately age and injuries/deterioration of the knees and hips have taken me out of it.
You thinking of getting a 24 factory edition with new frame updates?
We are our own worst enemy. As much as we just want to "run it", it's far more advantageous to speed up the learning cycle by changing setups often for better and for worse. This is another reason why having a team forces faster and continual learning cycles.
🔥🔥🔥
GO JEFF GO JEFF GO JEFF !!!!!
Suspension, suspension, suspension, suspension, dialed. Only way
Would you ever consider getting the new sx300 don’t see many videos out there of that bike
Buddy means business 😈
How much do you weigh brother???
I’m 6’3 185lbs and running a 48Nm spring on my 24 250sxf. It’s a new bike coming from a Yamaha, I feel timid on it too but the rear seems decent, a lot better than the stock 42Nm spring. It SEEMS like my issue is with the fork. Other than the spring it’s all stock. About 12 hours on the bike, after a few more hours gonna get it revalved and probably 6500 kit (wp’s spring cartridge kit)
have you ever tried Kawasaki or do you plan on getting the new triumph 450 when they come out depending on what the 250 does
At 14:55 when you go inside line to outside line are you not worried about the lapped rider trying to go outside line to inside line? Is it just that you have so much speed that the lapped rider would not be an issue or that the lapped rider has to figure it out? Genuine question from a casual fire road rider.
Hey Jeff what grips do you use??
Compared to the 2-stroke days with rough tracks of all different kinds of dirt, bike set up is super easy today. Just get the bike balanced with springs and dampening, set up bottoming for the jumps, and that is about it.
What static sag where you on with the 48nm, and what did you drop to on the 45? Closer to 35, or 38-40mm?
I was around 41 static, 105 race with the 4.8. Around 37/105 with the 4.5
Similar numbers on the old 22 chassi? Stock shock and valving on the 2022 I can go 37 hard packed, 38 on soft tracks. Trax I can't go below 39-40, just becomes to rigid and and harsh.
I have the same helmet as the guy in the Yamaha in the beginning on the video
Is Mitch gerwin still doing your suspension? I graduated MMI with him back in 08-09
You should try motoklik. Have AI set up your suspension. It mounts to your bike and give you real life data you can use to tune. I bought it for this summer. Excited to try it.
Definitely keep in touch and let me know what you think. That sounds pretty cool
I have the motoklik setup on my 21 crf450 and it's been a game changer
So Im abit of a suspension nerd (me and my dad ran a suspension company here in norway for a few years together and I did alot of test riding on everything from A kit suspension to custom built stuff with different bits), have u tried upgrading to a Lainer suspension bladder kit on your shock, and do u run something similar to a race tech gold valve in front/rear suspension? That makes a huge difference, also seen some privateer teams run Lainer suspension rebound stopper in the rear (Ive also tried it), to help keep the rear tire more planted over shatter or breaking bumps, so u get better ground contact going into corners etc
I actually liked riding with gold valves, bladder kit and rebound stopper alot more than I liked the old wp cone valves and showa/kyb A kit. Ive tried every combination on both ktm and suzuki, even built kyb A kit to fit onto ktm and it was honestly the second best suspension Ive ever ran (Tho Im not a super quick rider, but I have a good feel for suspension and how it should handle)
U can go down the rabbit hole alot when messing with suspension and it can become very expensive, I can recommend alot more things to fine tune everything, like aftermarket compression adjusters etc made by Lainer, but it all adds up and Im trying to keep it pretty budget friendly since I know its expensive as a privateer. But gold valves, bladder kit (to allow for more consistent shock function thru long motos and keep temperature down) and potentially a rebound stopper (tho its not for everyone, but could be worth to try since its not extremely expensive and its a quick and easy install (goes on the bottom of the swingarm and its basicly just a soft rubber stopper to keep swingarm from kicking too much)
Seems like the bike has a lot less chain slap.
i just feel like you need a change just like every rider kind of like how Tomac just wasn't happy with the kx and now he is super happy with Yami
What is the duration of the jump at 11:40?
Jeff I think its time to switch to the Yami
4.8 is pretty heavy for someone your size, I'm local pro speed on a 4.8. but I'm 210 in gear
You on stock valving? I'm 196lbs in gear on a 4.8 with the stock valving . would bottom alot on the 45
I agree, I’m 180 (no gear) and added the Ride engineering linkage with JBI bladder and had to jump to a 48
8:12 what the heck was that 😆
What happen to the hot misso?
When is the 2024 factory edition coming ?
Hopefully soon!! The new chassis with my new suspension setup should be amazing
It ain't the bike man. Watch out for Levi kitchen on the kawi #lookoutHaiden
FYI: "KAYABA SUSPENSION" IS FAR SUPERIOR, actually 2nd to none.. Moreover, read the Tea Leaves, why do you think the new Triumphs (Carmichael design) HAVE BEEN SAID TO "HAVE THE 'BEST ASPECTS' OF EVERY TOP DIRTBIKE!".. and GUESS THE CHOSEN SUSPENSION??? = KAYABA.. Plus they're are Yamaha inspired frame!!
Is just me or everyone else just basically standing still lol 😂
5:44 had me scared for a second 😂😬
Why? I didn't see anything scary.
@@EarthSurferUSA def looked like the front started to tuck a bit coming into that corner
Just realized I also have the wrong timestamp
If you have any speed, you have the need for Paul Thede.
You should have learned about suspension a decade ago.
I think the word is with enough money you can become happy, because I don’t know how to valve my suspension.
TCD does amazing work with the stock components. Worth a phone call for sure!
get the new 450 factory edition
Approx how much do you weigh?
all i know is he is way faster than my brain can function...especially in the corners ...
I never understood that. Im someone who can feel the change in a tire in 10 min worth of riding on it. my dad on the other hand you could put a completely different brand tire and change a whole bunch of stuff including his gearing and he genuinely wont notice. Maybe I'm picky but I'm always trying to tune the best for me. then there are some people like my dad who will buy a stock bike, throw a pipe on it, get the suspension set for his weight and with ride the piss outa it for years. Meanwhile I'm a shorter rider so I'm cutting my bars down a little, all that kinda stuff.
Are those today's A riders you are passing like they are first time C riders? We sure have a lot of slow riders today, not like the 80's and 90's.
Dah 😢
I have a question. Do you wear heart rate monitor on the chest?
first comment here :)
Stock suspension before TCD? We know what company you was using before and they left a bad taste in my mouth to where I won’t say there name either, fuck them. Stay grinding bro and TCD takes care of there customers!
