This is great! As a travelling dancer I hunted high and low to find decent bags to protect my costumes. I have push handles so I found the best bags are actually nappy bags that are designed to go on the handles of a buggy. I have a really lovely black one that has been a life saver when travelling. No one would even know it was a nappy bag because the branding is so discreet.

Lovely Gem! So glad you are feeling better. 💖 How exciting to plan your big birthday. 🎂 I have a big birthday is next July. I love birthdays. Can’t wait! 💜 Side guards don’t need to have a lip to work fully. I found that having a lip over the wheel inhibited the optimum pushing position. I got wheelchair services to professionally trim these off. They were undamaged and looked like an original part. It proved to be worthwhile for my style of pushing. Fortunately my other chairs had flat side guards so no adjustments needed. Horses for courses though and appreciate this might not suit everyone xx

The FFORA equipment is amazing! They recently gifted me the full collection for my wedding along with a custom white leather bag that connects on for my wedding and it’s so gorgeous. They gave me such a huge gift and they are honestly amazing. I couldn’t have afforded £70-£80 for a bag at the moment but I can say having them now I would definitely recommend saving for one if you possibly can. They’re amazing!!

My current backup chair, I inherited it from my grandma, and it came with one of those $50 Ki Mobility pouches (don't know the exact name that they call it), so I attached that to the mounting hardware of my Java backrest, and that contains a toolkit, along with other necessities (library card, chapstick, etc. - things I would need if I went out without my backpack), and the little pocket on the outside is just big enough for my phone. I also have the Advantage Bag Down Under shelf (at least at the time, it was cheaper to order it from Sportaid than directly from Advantage Bag, in case anyone's wondering), which I use every time I go out in my chair, and it's the perfect size to fit my medical binder that I take to appointments (I would use a regular underseat bag, but I keep my feet tucked too far under me to be able to use that kind, so the shelf it is). I also have the guzzie+Guss cup holder, and that comes in handy all the time (most of the drink containers I use are straight-sided, for lack of a better term, so cup holders that are designed for things with slanted sides - like the Ffora one - wouldn't really work for me) - the one downside is that it doesn't quite fit the width of a full size nalgene, but it does get pretty close. I also have light blue spoke skins on the inner spokes of my wheels (TiLite Shadow wheels), which adds a pop of color, protection for the spokes, and gives my chair a slimmer look. For lights (strictly a safety feature, though they do look cool, too), I have blue bike wheel string lights on my back wheels, and small round red lights on the bottom back of my tubular armrests and white ones that go on the footrest tubing on either side of the footplate (the red and white lights are also technically bike lights - brand is Ascher, if anyone's wondering) - where I live, the sidewalks are sorely lacking, and the ones that are there, their accessibility is marginal at best, so I'm often stuck wheeling in the street, and there are very few streetlights, so the lights are primarily so that cars have zero excuse to not see me, and also so that I can see the ground in front of me, since some of the streets and sidewalks aren't in the best condition.
Probably the thing that made the biggest difference for me, though, would have to be my Reha Design pushrim covers - they make 2 different styles, a smooth version (which is what I have) and a "groovy" version, which is treaded for extra grip (they don't have pics of the groovy ones on their website, so not sure whether they're closer to the Grippoz or closer to the RibGrips); I got the pushrims that I got precisely because I knew I was going to be getting pushrim covers; also, I live in a dry climate (American Rockies), and out here, for most grippy pushrims, the grippy part just dries out and flakes/breaks off (in more humid climates, they're generally just fine) - that was what made me decide to just get regular pushrims and get the pushrim covers separately. One advantage that the Reha Designs ones have over the Grippoz is that they wrap almost the entire way around the pushrim (on my pushrims, the only part of the pushrim they don't cover is the thickness of the tabs that attach the pushrim to the wheel), so the possibility of them falling off isn't a concern, even when flying (I've flown with them 13 times so far and they've never started coming loose en route).
The other one that would have to be the one that made the biggest difference is my wheelchair backpack - it's an Embark adaptive backpack, which works perfectly for me as a part time wheelchair user, because I can use it however I need to: I can wear it when walking, and, when using my chair, I attach it to the top bars of my Java backrest with double ended snaps (the way my backrest is adjusted, I can't use either of the 2 normal ways of hanging a backpack on the back, despite my chair having push handles), which, even when packed to the max, still hangs high enough that it doesn't drag on my SmartDrive except when in a steep wheelie - it has a ton of different pockets, but also has a large interior pocket, so it's really easy to keep all my stuff organized, and it's big enough that I've taken it as my only piece of luggage on multiple 1-3 week trips (when I fly with just my backpack, I take my wheelie bars as well, since my chair flips all the way back when I stand up otherwise, since there's no suitcase on the front to balance the weight - I have luggage forks and a luggage strap to attach a suitcase).
I don't mind that the shelf and pouch only come in black, because my chair's colors are black and blue, so they blend in perfectly, and my backpack, spoke skins, and pushrim covers are blue, so it works.

I've tried many things in my time (38 YO disabled since birth) and in the end I've gone for a large under chair bag. Pros: They're huge, you can fit so much in them. Cons: They're huge, you can lose so much in the disorganised mess of the single cavernous space they provide. But at least it can fit all of my equipment and spares etc, I even have a travel scope in there which I need as a birder.

It has POCKETS!!!!! Love skirts with hidden pockets! I love the tropical print on it too! My three favourite things for my chair are the drink/phone holder, my hidden wallet that goes on my seat, between my legs and my new cane sheath that my son made for me. My canes fold up and they can be a bother to get out of the usual cane holders when you have your backpack on. This sheath my son made for me out of leather will hold both canes folded up while it is attached to my left leg support. He designed it so that there is a loop at the top to hook around my seat bar and then a side strap to tighten around the leg shaft. It is so easy to pull out a cane to use as support to reach for things where I need to stand, I told him he needs to patent the designs. It is wonderful! I am going to try to make it in a waterproof material, because of the leather tooling he has done on here, I don't want to get salt and crud on it, even though he did oil it really well. On the other side, I have my cup/phone holder. I'm ready to rock and roll! But I am still looking for that just right backpack, so far my husband has cursed at the last two I have. Lol! But I have found the neatest shopping cart! It is actually a pet carrier stroller with a parcel compartment underneath. A fellow wheelchair user had one in the store I was in, and it folds up like a stroller, about 10lbs in weight. The basket is not too high, you can put quite a bit of groceries in there and plenty of room in the basket underneath. He said he found it on Amazon and he wouldn't get rid of it for the world! It is my next big purchase! But at $179, I have to save up for it.

I have the Ffora essentials bag and cup holder and really like both of them if I'm going somewhere and I don't need to take a lot of stuff. If I'm going somewhere where I might need to take more, like snacks and medication, I have the adaptive crossbody from Jansport. I put it under my seat, and it hangs like the pickepack but attaches with straps instead of Velcro.
I love that Jansport has come out with two adaptive bags, the crossbody and the backpack, and that they worked with members of the disabled community to design and market them. It's great to see a mainstream brand coming out with an adaptive line. I just found out that this year they've partnered with ArtLifting, an organization that works with artists affected by disabilities and housing insecurities, to bring out three different collections this year designed by artists with disabilities.

As a wheelchair user myself I find the concept of under seat bags a difficult concept to grasp. I've always found that bending forward to reach down throws me off balance and, then, my legs get in the way. I'd much rather have a rucksack on the back of my chair that simply pulls off for me reach inside.

I actually made my own under-chair bag. There's a pair of carabineers on the webbing that clip the bag into them, and it just sits there, nice and safe so my valuables aren't easily nickable.
I had ambitions of selling them on Etsy, but my health got the better of me, so all I've got is the prototypes so far. That said, I discovered that the longevity of the magnetic clasp isn't what I'd hoped over prolonged use, so maybe it's a good thing I couldn't launch last year.
I had all these plans about contacting you, see if you'd give it a trial run... Even got a bright pink one cut and ready to sew!
Part of it was that purpose made accessories are always so expensive, so I was trying to keep costs down - make something for £25 rather than 3x or more that.
Never considered the humble bum bag, though - that's really clever.
My spare inner tube and tools sit in a Molle pouch I got from Amazon for about a tenner. Poppers round the webbing and I've tucked it well back so it doesn't interfere with anything.
I have a bike bottle cage that is removable, but it's a lot more bulky than the Ffora one, but was a fraction of the cost. Only problem is, because it is bigger, I don't always have it on me. But sometimes it's not always a bad thing to stop for a coffee, gather the spoons...

All of it looks really cool!! :) When it comes to bags, I have a bum bag that I ordered from the company that made my wheelchair. It's stripped under the seat and it can be disattached and put back when needed. Then I also have a random backpack that became my wheelchair backpack and does the job well, it's basically a notebook backpack and so it has the typical shape of the wheelchair backpacks etc., so I don't even think that people would be able to tell that it's not a backpack specicially for wheelchairs haha. And few hours ago I discovered that Panthera sells a wheelchair backpack and it looks really cool, it really sparked my interest haha!! :)

I have Carbolife-Gekkos (same as Gem, Carbolife-Curve but with a rubber insert to support pushing). I love them. SO much better for my hands and wrists than standard pushrims. Eventually I would go for Carbolife Curve only because I learned how to go downhill only on my big wheels and the rubber makes it more difficult to navigate (because there is also more grip and the pushrims not slide smooth to my hands while stopping a little bit).
My favourite bag is a bycicle handlebar from Ortlieb. Waterproof, very durable, lots of space (gloves, keys, mobile phone, big wallet, waterbottle...). I stripped it under my seat. So my stuff is save. I'm always paranoid somebody take my backpack away 😮.
And I don't like attach my backpack because the weight shifts my tipping point.

Wondering what other bags would replace the piche pacha?(sorry I struggle with its name). I was thinking of using one of those bedside hangers that hangs off the side of the bed and is an organizer? Pockets aren’t covered but it’s like a barebones similarity to them?

Hi Gem. Thanks for the recommendations. Unfortunately when trying to buy the FOfora cupholder and attachment system, the website tells me your discount code is not valid on those products. Do you know why please?

well mine are only about and inch wide and they are very low to the wheel , so i dont feel like they hinder or get in the way , if they where wider or higher they probably would.

Oh no Pickepacke! I had one and they were great for manual chairs. A bum bag is excellent for storing your phone and purse. Great links thanks xx
