- Is this a fair comparison? eh... Was there more bench racing than actual racing? For sure. Just Tony Stewart and the boys having more fun than they deserve.
One of these days we'll do dyno runs and real track testing... All three of these bikes RIP, we couldn't resist a good old fashion flag-drop.

We are all brand bias, and yes I love my Honda’s...but no Kx...they have always been close. Honda owned the mid to late 80’s and every manufacturer made some great bikes

I do like that RM. It's rarer than the others. I've never owned a Suzuki unfortunately.

That's true...you don't ever see the RM's come up for sale or anything.
@Kanal 1 4 sure ! I never saw as many as the other Japanese brands when I was racing bitd. In the 250 class it was mostly CR's and a mix of YZ's and KX's.
I was going to get a RM80 in late 83 but it got stolen from the shop 2 days after I looked at it ! So I got the KX80F2...
Glad that I did now as those were very quick and they had a disc brake.
I picked up a ton of dog poo that afford that bike ! LOL !!

@@Snide01 true probably needs a clutch a new top end ..and the steering head of the main frame welded back together again ..but it will die ..as the frames are chromed molly built then heat treated ..once it cracks it will always crack..but then so will all the rest ..but the kaw tends to crack at the steering head ..reason ..the power band comes on really violent and work hardens the steel with its high frequency resonance and they have enough torque to constantly slip the clutch friction plates ..but the pros like that so not to have to downshift hitting high berms ..and most will run a 50: 1 oil mix with klotz nitro or similar octane boost that is pretty tough on the rings ..but kaw riders all have a Chip on their shoulder and will sacrifice a bike to win ...

Explain how that power band works !! What causes it and when does it Start ? And once in motion how far in RPM will it pull ? . and when is the best time to shift a two stroke pulling a hole shot into turn one ..and how is the best way to do it ..? And what gear for a 250 is best to launch off the gate to start out in ..?
Launch the Honda in 3rd gear ..and witness a no contest ....but it will take some practice to keep from falling off the pipe .bog it and flame out ..and when you smell the clutch .give it a break to cool off ..once you get the 3rd gear hole shot trick down ..you can almost take on the pros ...
I brought a stock 1988 Suzuki rm 250 in 1994 when i was 14 years old it was my first
ever motorbike and the first bike i ever rode lol. those Suzuki's from around 1988
to 1992 had a really strange power band. the perception of the power curve was
very mild and smooth compared to the KX 250 and the CR 250's which were violent
in comparison. and the perception of the power band on those bikes seemed twice as
strong to be honest even though my bike was just as quick. it was about a bike length
behind on acceleration but flat out it was a bike's length in front.
I think Suzuki tried to smooth out the power delivery in those years to gain more traction
on the starts to stop the bike from spinning and wheeling. in 1993 onwards the RM 250's
were just as violent as the cr's and kx's after that. but in those years they were very mild
and manageable and make good fast beginner 250's.
@@donniebaker5984 The power band is the natural characteristic of a 2 stroke bike
which just happens after a certain rev range. in the old day's before power valves
2 stoke bikes had nothing at low revs and at about mid revs you would get all
the power in one go which was very violent. a power valve actually makes make
a 2 stroke bike faster at low revs by opening an exhaust chamber and closing
it at mid revs when the power band comes in. which makes the bike faster at
low revs and smooths out the power delivery. that's what somebody told me
anyway i am not 100 sure if its true or not.

Can't kill a Honda! Leave them outside in the winter snow and ice for 5 years, and she will start first kick with need blood/oil/gas/and a plug! Love Honda, but Suzzi is my girl for that get up, and go she has.

woah the RM SMOKED EM.. fast bikes... these brands had a habit of copying each other's port designs with slight improvements every year or two
If it ain’t smoken it’s broken
If its smoking you ain't stroking ..rich oil mix will cost you horse power and a possible fowled plug = game over ..back in the day we used bel- ray or yamalub "R" ..one pint to 5 gallons of VP ..that's a very lean mix of 50: 1 ..your plug will be the color of one from a four stroke ..you won't see any smoke ..and there will be no carbon in the head or on top the piston ..you will get through the season on two overhauls with only swapping out the piston and rings with standard or 0.002" over the first time .. ..second overhaul will be bored 1st.over that will take you to the finals ..but if you have a chrome plated cylinder you will never bore it out ..and just pop in a new piston and rings once in a while ..

Not really as the distance they raced was too short for any of them to top out ..I only counted shifting three times ..its not really a fair demonstration at all ..as for a true run just for drag racing you need a hundred yards

donnie baker said nothing about topping out. Just saying th yz bike/rider combo doesn’t have the best hole shot but in a couple races you can see him catching up fast.
