    Damn! Sir you are a gardening god. I can only hope to have a yard like yours someday. We are planting in bags and raised beds at our new home and right now obviously by my being here were trying to grow garlic in a bag :). Ive been through so many tutorials but not one of them had a yard like yours.

    If I am using soil that had cucumbers this summer, can I use it again for garlic in September? Should I pull out the roots? And/or mix in new compost/soil if I want to plant garlic like this?

    • @newgardenroad
      @newgardenroad  Місяць тому

      Yes, adding compost is a good idea. Pulling out the roots isn’t necessary unless they get in the way because they count as organic matter too.

    Could you please let me know if your raised beds have a wood bottom or weed barrier? I’m new to gardening more vegetables 🥕 garlic 🧄 thank you

    • @newgardenroad
      @newgardenroad  Рік тому +1

      No wood bottom or weed barrier for my raised beds. I cultivated the sub soil prior to construction in order to increase my planting depth. One thing to consider is whether you have moles or voles in your area, which I do not. In that case, one might utilize hardware cloth as a physical barrier. I don't advocate for weed barrier in the garden, and I've never experienced weeds coming up from the existing soil after establishing my raised beds. I hope that helps!

      @Tjp742 Рік тому

      @@newgardenroad we have moles , really don’t want to put harmful chemicals on the ground, a friend told us Lyme should help, plus good for the soil. I appreciate you writing back .

    Planning on trying in grow bags this season to keep raised beds free for spring crops. How did it do?

    • @newgardenroad
      @newgardenroad  Рік тому +1

      They did well! Consistent moisture during mid spring as the garlic cloves size up is essential.

    Thinking about planting garlic in grow bags this year. How did it work out for you? Would you do it again? Thanks!

      Hey! It worked out well, and I would do it again. It did require more frequent watering, but they seemed to grow happily.

      Not when actively growing. The top growth is vital for growth and development. I only remove the tops after harvesting and curing.

    How did this turn out?

    • @newgardenroad
      @newgardenroad  Рік тому +1

      It turned out well! This is a great option for many reasons, but one thing to keep in mind is that watering consistently through mid-spring while the cloves are sizing up is essential. These smart pots will dry out more quickly than plastic or terra cotta.
