I learned classical piano for years. It wasn't until I did a short course of play by ear lessons that it all came together. It's like kevin hill oil painting lessons. I feel like it's taking weeks instead of years to create something beautiful! Learn fast and great teaching from kevin hill who truly has talent to paint and equal talent to teach! Thank you! Watching this 4 year old lesson in 2020 and learn so much!
Kevin you are such a wonderful teacher and you give so much by posting all the great videos for free. I am learning so much and I am very grateful :) Thank you you make this world a better place !
Kevin you have the best instructional videos. I love learning from you. Picked up painting after 20 yrs because of your videos. Thank you for sharing your talent with us
Hi Kevin! l went to art school and honestly hardly learned anything after two years from stuck up instructors, so l quit. l was better artist before l went, but going there caused me to lose my enthusiasm for my art. Because of your sincere, honest and humble teachable approach to teaching l am now getting back to my art. Thank you Kevin!
The best painting and art class I've ever seen on U Tube. Thanks Kevin for sharing this valuable information and the informative videos you sell on your web site,
You made a good point and that is the very reason I purchased three of you videos to try and learn your style of painting, I hope in time I will be able to simulate a few of your paintings but I will never be able to duplicate any of your paintings, hopefully later I can take your style and mix it with my style and see what turns out, I plan as time goes on to purchase more and more of your videos till I have a nice collection, your loose and free style to detailed painting is what I have been looking for, thanks...
Thank you, Kevin..a lot of great tips. This painting is beautiful. I missed the live portion, but glad you have it on here for us to view, at a later time. Thank you, and congratulations on your marriage!! From Northern California.
Your feeling for nature really shines through and is inspirational for all artists. I have been painting for some 48 years and gain a lot by watching your efforts. Well done. By the way I am in Australia.
Hi, I'm from France and I like so much your videos. I try to paint again after 4 years without painting and your explications are very usefull. Thanks a lot to share your work. It's an amazing job.
KevinOilPainting ...it's so very nice of you and your family to take their time out and help with the many questions...your a great team..generously giving so many from all over the world the tools and knowledge to learn how to oil paint...a big thanks to you and your family. Your commentary with all the how and why's with the painting is so helpful.. You certainly have passion when you paint and it also shows in your works. A beautiful scene and rendered with some really great methods...layering the sky/clouds where the light is with two layers gives such a brightness ...and the upper part with the compliment gives harmony to the sky as well...the depth..and the distant trees...those birches rendered with your brushstrokes ...they look realistic. I learned a lot in this video...all your tips and Brushwork...your a fantastic artist..I know you worked very hard in your journey....but you did it...and your a wonderful teacher with passion, motivation and inspiring. God bless you and your family for all that you do..

Hello Kevin You are Great. I am from Sweden and admire your work. Started watching 2 years ago. You have helped me to develop a lot as a painter! /Jörgen lieutenant colonel in the Swedish army.
Thanks for the live video Kevin! I love these longer videos, it's great to get to see all of the steps, and hear all of the tips and information you give along the way! :)
I guess you like the wild, unspoilt nature - right? This is also what your pictures are. I always enjoy if I watching it. Still learn something about it, even though I paint myself. Thank you for your inconvenience to share your art with other people. Grüße aus Germany
lol.. was really fun to listen to questions and answers.. great artist! You see.. the easy ones make it.. there is no need for rushing.. great answer also given to loose painting instead of tight.. i was my whole life a perfectionist in art and I try very much to go loose.. it is not easy that way around.. I see in youtube some people which draw the painting like a fotograph.. and it is NOT interesting! Something special.. magical is missing! The loose painting is magic!
Didn't get in on the live chat, but I watch all your videos from Ontario, Canada. I taught folk art painting for many years, have tried a few oils, and am now learning and loving soft pastel scenes.
I am just viewing this vidoe as I work on a piece....TY....I had a hard edge on a distant hill and wasn't quite sure how to fix it...it was not a focal point BUT was bothering me...well thanks to this video I FIXED it...Yay!! TY so much for sharing your work with us.
I havn't had time to watch this video since university is trying to work me to death! But I woke up this morning after one hell of a nightmare and I watched this to calm down. So thank you Kevin for some calm and inspiration! :)
Watched the live session....very informative.... I love your paintings Your a great teacher...and multi tasker...and always amazed to watch the start of your piece...and it all comes together...a painting..a beautiful scene...a place I feel that when looking at it...I am at this place.. Sometimes an artist can paint, but cannot express in words how he paints, or explain the theory underlying it all. You can do both - exceptionally well. Thank you and your family for taking the time to bring this to us...Your passion for painting shows when your painting...in your dialogue and in the final piece....totally enjoyed watching live...
Hi Kevin... very sorry I've missed the live stream... but it was kind of late for us, 🇿🇦 in South Africa. Still a pleasure to watch!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
Stunning painting. It was just too late for me... 1am in South Africa. I was out doing deliveries for my daughter's baking business until I got home at 11pm. I had been up since 4am and was too exhausted to stay awake. These things happen in life. But I watched this morning when I got up to get ready for the fresh market stall this morning. I'm sure your live stream was extremely beneficial for those who tuned in. You are an amazing young man. So talented. Thank you for sharing your talent with me. Lindy
Too bad I didn't see it yesterday! But I'll gladly watch it today! Thank you, Kevin! I love your work and you're a good teacher! :) It must be stressfull to do a live like that, painting and stopping every 5 seconds to answer questions and barely having the time to breath ^^ But thank you for your time! And since you asked people where they're from, I'm from France.
I'll be watching for your live shows. Vary helpful ty! New Brunswick Canada. You should check out Miscue Island. In fall the plants that cover the island turn red.
Thanks for the video Kevin. It was a little strange because the audio did not line up with the video. But it didn't matter. I simply enjoy watching you paint and learn new techniques every time.
Man, I'm working with my first oil painting now in my art class and it is tough to learn this new medium of art. Your videos really help! :D I'm a senior in highschool
Hi, I have following you and it's great. Well I'm an amateur cum self taught artist and currently working on my landscape series which I intended to put at solo display at local trail(not some gallery but public place). But after preparation of one year just right before a month when I needed to put all in final pieces I got caught up in self doubt. I feel like overtly frustrated whenever I take brush out. My brain tells me that I should go for more training and so. But I am just at rut now. what do you suggest?
great live video Kevin. for people needing more knowledge/art tips/advice....can I reccomend Mural Joe. if you like Kevin you will also like mural Joe...I'm sure. (he does use acrylic though rather than oil paint) hope this helps. I'm from England.
KevinOilPainting I mentioned you to him too and he checked out your videos and liked. I don't paint but you two guys are making me itch to get into it...it looks more fun than drawing (which I do).
Hey Kevin my name is Lee Goldman I've been painting about six years mostly Bob Ross style landscapes and floral paintings under Gary and Kathryn Jenkins I have also had a little learning from Jerry Yarnell your leaf painting and his are very similar and once in awhile a still life for my Sister, I live in a city called Florence, South Carolina, I have a 16' X 16' art studio in my yard that is known as Goldmine Art now my question have you ever done a one brush painting?...
Hey Kevin are you ever going to do another live stream like this I would love to be there for it. I am learning how to paint with acrylics and need to ask you questions live sense its much easier.
Do you ever have simple people forms in you paintings, like the little guy fishing? Not detailed, portrait like figures, but just ideas of people? Thanks for your expertise. Your work is wonderful!
I use a mix of Clear Gel Medium and Titanium White on the sky area only. It helps the colors blend easier. Here is a link to the Clear Gel Medium: paintwithkevin.com/oil-paint.html
Kevin, First; I want to thank you for these full length paintings. Your commitment to your fans really shows when you give of yourself this way. At this point in time I am terribly monetarily challenged, so I can only purchase your DVD's every now and then, so these paintings, (full length) are so appreciated. I watch some over and over, just to see my improvements every 3 months or so. You mention that you clean your brushes with baby oil. Do you submerge the brush in ANY kind of odorless (or not) turpentine, brush cleaner,or anything first? I imagine your cleaning routine is several minutes on each brush if you only use baby oil? And even if I am using a turpentine type product, can I store the brush with a little baby oil on/in it? Does this help the fibers of the brush to not stiffen up? I think since I first started watching your videos, (18 months ago) I believe you have married? Congratulations. I know you have a sibling, your brother? in the music industry. I would like to support him as well if you can point me in the direction to do so? I do indeed subscribe to your newsletter and have read a little about him, but pass along any additional info that will help me, to help him. Once again Kevin, your talent is a wonderful beautiful gift, and inspires such pleasure, I cannot thank you enough!!
Thank you for your support and kind words! I do clean my brushes with only baby oil. It takes a little bit longer, but the baby oil will help condition the brushes to keep them soft and usable for a long time. Here is a link to Collin's UA-cam channel: ua-cam.com/channels/plvz46dcmvOq-1sqVXh8Jw.html
Any particular instructions to wash blending brush ? I washed once with odorless thinner and blending brush bristles became thick after that , anything particular about washing blending brush ?
Hi Kevin. Is painting all you do for a living or you have another job? And what kind of canvases do you use? Are they linen or cotton canvases? And Where do you buy them?
I don't have chat, but I"m from Canada. I know you did a painting from BC, Canada, I'd love to know where that photo and painting is from. I live in BC, most beautiful province in Western Canada.

"stuck up instructors" - the word is "Smug", it runs rampant with many artists.

I did a seascape on black gesso using a clear gel in the sky and it went really shiny. What could have caused that.
I am from california, San Diego. My paints look cartoonish and they all look the same. I imagine beautiful paints but then they turn out the same😂
