Jimmy has been singing for us for more than 50 years, with Cold Chisel and his solo career. This is one of his signature songs. He has 4 autobiographies. The first two are called Working Class Boy and Working Class Man. It was a suggestion from a mate of his to use the first title. Not only did Jimmy live is a poor working class family, his father was an alcoholic who drank his pay check away at a bar, so they often went hungry. It was also not a safe environment. Jimmy left school and worked in a foundry, before starting with Cold Chisel at around 17 years of age. The band worked hard for many years from 1973 to 1978 before they released an album. They did multiple concerts a night and Jimmy talks about still being hungry. Working poor, for sure. Jimmy is, and always will be my number 1. Saw him in October singing with Cold Chisel. I still get goosebumps thinking about their performance. It was absolutely fantastic. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oh geez.. umm.. well the superior ventricular folds, commonly known as the false vocal cords (not chords 😜) is basically a thick fold of mucous membrane between the primary vocal cords and the epiglottis. The false cords do not make any sound (hence “false”) but we use them to stop us from sending food down our airway, but also for protecting us from dysphonia (strained voice, hoarseness). Singers all use false cords when they sing but some better and moreso than others. Jimmy along with many hard rock and metal singers as well as gospel singers have mastered the art of using their false cords to protect their voice box from damage due to strain or nodules and also to change the nature of the sound itself (eg vocal fry). The false cords aren’t intended for this but when they co-oscillate with the primary cords they can create a gravelly rough vocal, while also protecting the true cords. The best way to feel your false cords in action is to yawn. If you combine sound on the exhale and control it you may hear some vocal fry!
I'm going to ask Fellipe to do a fanart of Jimmy and John based on one of my favourite visions of them from a When something is wrong with my baby performance 😊❤
This song is about the American working class man, not an Aussie one. Why would they reference a wild mid western sky in Australia, and why would he be mad at Uncle Sam?
Video gives this no justice you have to be there live to feel it,just goes right through you , anything Jimmy Barnes or Cold Chisel Live has an effect on you. The natural sound is not totally re-created

Beautiful voice
Jimmy! What a legend.
I love his song ‘Stone Cold’ just gorgeous
His Australian Scottish accent allows him to get that gravelled voice. Back in the day he never did pre or post vocal exercises
Just pure raw talent
Aussie pub rock mate.😂😂😂🏄🏻🏄🏻
Hi guys. Love Jimmy Barnes. Saw him in Concert twice. However I missed out on the Cold Chisel concerts recently..so sad..
🤣🤣🤣, you ask what us Aussies drink, we all used to smuggle the vodka in to jimmy’s concerts to try and keep up with him to no avail🤣🤣
He was just in concert last night in Ballarat!
How did i miss this i live in ballarat WTF
Working class man movie featuring this song staring Michael Keating is funny and brilliant.
That's them Vegemite kids!🤣🇦🇺🤘
Dr Kap explains it well. He uses his fake vocal chords. I have no idea how to really explain it - Kappy if you read this, can you pitch in please 😂❤🎉

Due to the wars they were dragged into. Listen to Khe Sahn, another great song of theirs
