- The Dallas Cowboys made news before the sun came up on Monday morning as it was reported by NFL Network that they are officially bringing back Ezekiel Elliott. One of the more accomplished players in franchise history, Zeke spent the 2023 season with the New England Patriots after Dallas released him an offseason ago due to the ramifications of the extension that he signed with the team in 2019. He had 12 touchdowns in his final season in Dallas so he presents a potential goal line option. RJ Ochoa breaks down the news and offers his opinions on the Cowboys making it.

Dallas is clearly going “All in” on the 2025 season. Early mock drafts have six QBs going in the 1st round with The Cowboys taking Jalen Milroe (QB-Alabama). So why not pick Zeke back up? Let’s have fun this year and get ready for 2025.
Zeke should be utilized as a road grading fullback. He has always been great as blocking. Which was something Dallas sorely lacked from Pollard.
In 2022 Pollard graded out better than Zeke in blocking. A two year older Zeke will not be a good blocker and he will not be willing to take that roll on the team. He is not a team player
They are paying zeke like 7 million whether he plays for Dallas or not, I would rather have him here and pay him the money than playing for the Giants.

All in for 2025. Sign washed up RB for one year helps lower the standard and should cost team 3-4 wins. Will help in draft next year. With any luck we see the twins (Dak and Zeek) both gone after 2024.

Are running back situations can’t get any worse then last years. I’m not mad at it honestly yea it’s not the best but it’s better an like bro said he is one of the better blockers we rebuilt are OL so a decent run game will just have to work for now! But we also get those lil dish offs to zeke ass well he had a lil over 300 yrds last yr that’s some thing else we didn’t have at all! So look at it for all it’s worth ! We get a VET(in the locker room), a Big Back(for them 3rd a shorts) ,a PASS BLOCKER, an a back field pass game that we did not have! I’m fine with it for this yr will get a RB nxt yr !
I’m excited, I’m fully aware I’m letting my toxic cowboy fan brain take over on this one. Still excited. Really wish we would have grabbed some lightning in the draft to go with Zekes thunder though.

Zeke won’t be a very down back he is needed for short yard runs. 3 and 1 or goal line runs. Needed him last year. Didn’t need to draft a running back in the draft. You’ll be the same one with your cowboys pom-poms when he scores

He would already be the best pass catching RB.
Best pass blocker.
Best goal line & short yardage back.
Most big game experience.
What is our record with him in the playoffs? 2-4? That's not the kind of big game experience I'm looking for....

TP wasn’t that good last year. He was good, but not great. Dowdle was providing similar production. The biggest issues were GL rushes and pass pro. Zeke at least gives some relief in that department. I knew when they were talking Zeke returning before the draft, they weren’t going to take a back, especially when they picked up Freeman as well. I don’t really care that they didn’t draft an RB, because they built up the tranches and defense, which long term are better choices. But I don’t agree with how they have gone about team building in general, so looking at this, it fits what they do perfectly. They want to maintain perpetual mediocrity. Bounce between 7-10 and 12-5 but never win anything and if they win the SB, BONUS. In today’s NFL, without Pat Mahomes, you need to take on some risk to win. Dallas is content to draft well and not over spend or rock the boat in general as not to create too much controversy, just enough to get attention
Edit: I wanted to add I don’t think adding Zeke is a good solution, but it’s not going to make them any worse than they really were.

HOWEVER
I CANNOT see us not getting an upgrade at RB via postdraft, especially at the 53-man roster cuts before the season begins, and DESPITE acquiring Zeke
Then also,
Terms of Agreement contractually, will also be critical before we can honestly assess any possible summation of what his signing fully means
Pass-pro, situational, and redzone is what is obviously what this is
I'll almost guarantee we get a younger RB with far more upside before this is all said and done 😉

we need to trade a 6th or something for raheem mostert. Miami has 3 speeds backs and 2 of them they just drafts these past 2 drafts. Mostert is older but has way less carries than zeke has had and he has juice

I not a fan of Zeke's running style, head first dive and he has zero chance of a big run, very odd running style.
C'mon. They overworked Zeke when he was there, and now he doesn't have the legs he once did. He is NOT the answer to their RB problem....he's a fine veteran, but they need a young stud to complement him. I'm NOT excited about this move.

With the League min at $1.210 million looks like the Cowboys OVER PAID $1.790 million for a totally washed up over the hill over weight and slow running back. Could have picked up any of 20-30 UDFA RB's for way less money and had a more productive player.
Hope to see the "big three", McCarthy, Dak and Zeke all being escorted out of the building at the end of the season.
Only positive from this move is helping Cowboys get a much better position in the 2025 draft come next April.

It makes sense for what they're trying to do this season. Just get by and rebuild the following year. Get your fresh RB in the next draft. I don't like the idea of holding back this year, or anything associated with it, but that's their strategy.
If anything it's good just for the veteran experience for the young guys on the depth chart

I’m okay with this. Zeke was NOT a 16 mill running back at this stage. Had to get rid of that contract. I’m not sure the deal but at 1-2 mill? Why not. He’s short yardage, red zone we missed that this past year. I mean short yardage was a dump of pass to TP. With NE he was the second back
We will see if they really do use him in that kind of role exclusively.
It's a good move. Zeke brings Dak a level of comfort he didn't have last year. He's good for the locker room and for a young running back room. Hunter, Rico, Deuce and Zeke plus whoever else the end up signing offer a diverse RB room.
