I've had my SNK (also navy) for over 3 years and I love it. The smaller case makes it amazingly comfortable. Always great to see personal kit make TnP HoF retroactively.
I have the watch and love it! I've owned it for about 6 months, and I wear it every day. I switched out the band for a leather band off of eBay. It classes up the watch and makes it a nice accessory for the office.
Great review. I've worn an 807 daily for the past year, love it. I have never been way into watches but I too am amazed at the value of the SNK80X. What a beautiful and quality piece of equipment for $55-- it has proven to be the perfect introductory watch for me, and even at its value price point allows me to appreciate the satisfaction of owning a quality timepiece. I had been looking for a simple, inexpensive but quality watch and have never been enamored with the hockey puck sized "extreme" styled watches that came into fashion in the late 90's through the 2000s. The 37mm bezel width, minimal, thickness, and tapered crown make for a high speed, low drag/low snag package. It is sized and styled much more in line with men's watches of the middle 20th century, which I personally prefer.
LOVE this watch. Great way to get in to real watches. Love watching the movement on the back. Quality time piece: keeps MUCH more accurate time than my cheaper timex did. I don't wear it anymore after my wife got me a very nice mechanical watch after I became a lawyer, but I recommend this watch to anyone.
This is an absolutely awesome watch, was my first automatic and still one of my favorites. Bulletproof movement, great crystal, wonderful design and it only looks better with wear.
Been wearing this watch every day for about a year. I love how simple & classic it looks. Best part is that it is thin enough to not get snagged up on my bunker coat sleeve when getting quick dressed unlike the g-shock.
I have two of them, been wearing the first one every day at work for the past four years, working construction, running the hammer drill many times, jack hammer a few times, been banged around and dropped countless times, its kept the same time since I first got it. Keep in mind it does not keep perfect time, but I wear it all week and let it die on the weekends, plenty accurate for a 5 day work week
Seiko 5's are CLASSIC. This watch is a classic, Japanese automatic movements dont get the love Swiss ones do but they are great movements. Had this particular watch for years and its fantastic.
that dial style is an homage to the "flieger" watches worn by German fighter pilots from the second world war. the next seiko 5 up, the SNZG15 is a proper field watch with military time. The Skx and the reissued turtle dive watches are fantastic pieces of kit if you are willing to pay 200$ dollars on a watch. You can also look at the flightmaster from seiko, a quartz chronograph with sliderule bezel
I had a seiko 5 and the movement is ok but not really as good as the cheep chinese aeromatic and Tauchmeister watches which often have the same retro and ww2 'forces' look
I am actually wearing this exact watch as I saw this video as a suggestion. I must say I have had it for maybe a year now and it it a great automatic for the price. It keeps time very well for the price point (only adjusting the time a few times a year due to being of by a couple minutes). I have only had one problem though. I have had the wristband connecting rod (forgot the technical name for it) detach somehow and the watch would fall to the ground. This has happened about 4 times over the year or more I have had it. I would still recommend this watch to anyone who wants a great deal for an automatic watch.
I don't know how I missed this review. Fantastic! I've been looking at this watch for a while but never knew if it would be what I was looking for. Your review helped a lot. Thank you!
Got my watch the other day from Amazon based on your review of the strap I also ordered an ArtStyle blue nylon NATO strap with matching brushed rings. Fits my large 8" wrist much better, set up of the watch was a snap and I really like it a lot. Thanks Nutnfancy for the tip and the great review.
I have one myself, love it. Rocking the ivory (sand) colored watch with an olive green NATO strap. At first i thought it was a little small but with time it grew on me. Some people have had some issues with the time accuracy, an automatic watch will never be as accurate as a battery driven one, that said my watch runs about a minute or two slow every 30 days. Nothing major.
you mean the sweep instead of the tick like most standard watches? all "automatic" or basically mechanical movement watches do the sweeping motion so "automatic" is what you want to look for if you want that sweep.
Love mine. I got it in the black and picked up a few 18mm straps to change out. Its my go to work watch for the exact reasons you stated. Sits low on the wrist and doesn't get snagged on things.
Been running the same watch (with a slightly different face) for a year plus, and loving it. Running the SNKN27K1, which is this same movement and case with a slightly different face (standard field watch face in beige, pre-WW2 or Marines-WW2 style). Love it, and as a guy who does need to stare at the second hand on a somewhat regular basis to count pulse/respiration rates, it makes me happy. Bonus points for day and date windows that keep the days from blending together. These have an 18mm lug width for the nato strap I think everyone should use. Nothing like a cheap comfortable strap that is easy to swap out when it gets nasty, and can be relied upon to keep your watch on your wrist even if/when one of the spring bars breaks. Additional bonus points for the waterproof watch that can be washed with soap and water when you don't have alcohol swabs or other disinfectants on hand.
I've had mine for a couple of years and haven't taken it off except for when I change straps. Mine started out gaining a couple seconds a week now it loses a little less than a minute a week. I've played a bunch of volleyball and golf with it on so I'd say it holds up pretty well.
Just ordered the blue one... Trying to convince my wife to get me the rangeman for Christmas lol. Between your gun and watch reviews I'm gonna go broke! Thanks Nutn!
Nutn: you got into my wallet faster than a pickpocket at Heathrow with this WRV. Instant addiction! I was leaning toward the OD green, but the beige caught my eye and wouldn't let go. A replacement band may be my next fix. Keep having fun with your crew, share what you can, and thank you for your service!
Finally showing the autowinders some love, I like it. Now if only mine didn't go flying off my wrist and right under my foot a week ago. :( Gotta send it back and see if they can replace the clasp and face and get her working again, I love that watch. In the meantime, I'm glad to see you reviewing this particular model. I've waffled over buying it as a cheap daily wear more times than I can count. Your review will factor heavily in my final decision (as it often does.)
You finally made it to automatic watches! Batteries are a royal pain in the ass. These types just keep working, no batteries. Just wear t and never have a problem. Mine is 38 years old and still going.
The movement is 7s26 (not 7026), pretty good movement but accuracy varies quite a lot between all Seiko 5 watches. Some can be within 2 seconds a day, others will do no better than 15 seconds. I had the field watch myself, never understood why a 'field watch" is only 3 bar water resistant.
You can adjust the movement speed your self or a watch service place can do it. The bar in side with the plus and minus adjusts speed so you can tun it. UA-cam has bids showing how. Not trying to be condescending I spent 50 bucks getting mine tuned. No one should have a watch that's off. Great watch though!
Its perfect for SWAC. Its actually going to be 1 of 3 in my rotation. 1 to actually wear, 2 going into EB kits. These will work even if all the lights go out.
Dont know what i did to mine but its done. Reset the time around lunch today. At 2:30 today its reading 2:07. But ive heard of people wearing them for 5 years or so so it has to be something i did. Just cant think of what
The auto-movements in the SNK can be quite variable in terms of their accuracy. Some gain 3-5 seconds/day. Some of them lose 2-5 seconds/day. Mine gains a couple of seconds a day at least (if I wear it for multiple days in a row).
I have been a long time subscriber of yours, and have been please to identify with many of your gear choices. we have many things in common. as you have been reviewing war he's lately it has been very interesting to observe how you have followed almost the exact same trajectory it terms of watches. this seiko is perhaps one of the best doorway watches into getting into wrist candy. Keep calm and carry on. A big fan from the Great White North.
Love this watch! I got the black variety for christmas last year and i've worn it every day since. Shower and swim with it no problem. It works for my small wrists very well and for $55 you cant beat it. In my experience it keeps time within the same minute as my phone and honestly i dont have any reason to be that of a stickler on time keep up. The band gets uncomfortable after extended wear but those are easy to change out if you desire something different. Great review!
Hey Nut'n, they make watch winders for automatic watches you don't wear everyday. It's like a display box that rocks back and forth continuously to keep the watch wound and ready for wear anytime without having to set your time before wearing it. They make single watch winders, or bigger ones if you own multiple automatic watches. I think most are battery operated, but I think you can also get ones for 110 ac.
I've had the black one for a couple years now. Might sound lame but I like to wear it when I have my CZ PCR on me (which is most days). It's been 100% awesome and reliable, same with the 9mm CZ
Mine just gave up the ghost this weekend after 3.5 years of wearing it day and night. It went through more than any mechanical should. I will be ordering another seiko 5 post haste.
Yep. Those T-38s. Reminds me growing up when KABC channel 7 sign offs were themed with the poem High Flight with the T-38. HIGH FLIGHT TV STATION SIGN-OFF - 1972
I have had this seiko in black for a while. Got it for the same reason--high value auto. The only negative is the size, and it sits in a drawer for that reason. I'm a watch guy and other than several Tag Heuers, I like Seikos for the styles and value. Both their quartz and autos are very nice. A nice classic style is the JDM model Seiko SARB035. Auto with higher end fit and finishing yet $350 on amazon.
I've had this watch in black for about 18 months. It has grown on me over time, and has been my everyday watch for about a year now. May be a bit on the small size for some. I'm 6'4, 280 and its just right for me. I don't think there's a better value in the watch world right now.
Just ordered mine tonight. Dnt wait to use it. I plan on putting a black band on it. Not sure if it will be leather or not. Thanks for the excellent info nutn.
Of course there’s a nut’n review of this watch! It’s also a short video wow!! Haha just giving you hell. I just searched for it and see nut’n and gotta click it first!
Great watch! I got one for Christmas a few years back for Christmas. at work it takes a beating but still looks and works great. Only issue is the pins holding the band in place pop out. It's where I got a scratch on the glass. A Zulu band would have prevented this.
Cool watch and fun to hear some more of your personal history. By the way, any chance of a review in the future with the Browe TCO or BSO? Seems like it might be a cool little 4x optic.
I've got the 809. Only issue is the power reserve is no where near what they advertise. Having to reset after not wearing for a while is annoying, but easily done. It's very comfortable, to the point where I forget it's even there sometimes.
Hey Nutn, is the Air Force just pretty chill with names for aircraft? You have your talon there, then the MC-130 Combat Talon, and Talon II respectively. Seems like they'd want more differentiation but I dunno.
Thanks for showing this one . I really like this watch. I have been looking for a plain watch that just shows time not flashy and no bells and whistles and cheap. if it breaks just buy another.
Been rocking one of these for a few weeks now, EDC. I just got a motorcycle too and it fits nicely under the glove. No problems with water so far, but all I've done with it is lightly wash my hands so I guess that doesnt say much I'm a little concerned with the accuracy haven't heard good things, its okay though because unless its always on your wrist you'll probably be setting it before its an issue anyway However, I set it down before bed and its still tickin when I wake up Why do you say you like a wider lug Nutn? Wouldn't it get in the way more? It would allow less movement of the wrist, and more leverage toward breaking the lugs themselves I would think I agree that the crown is pretty small and hard to work with, BUT it stays out of the way when you're not using it (which is more often than not so I like it) Don't get the metal band version guys, I have it and it's noisy! cheap. I actually think the hands are pretty sexy nutn, and I thought this was a pilots watch, not a field watch?? thats why theres an arrow at the 12 and thats why the hands are to look like props, maybe its a weak attempt thus the confusion @nutnfancy
Love love love this watch. (Victorinox bands give me a rash.) Not a big fan of huge multifunction watches. This is the first reviewed watch that I like and that I will buy. (Have liked the reviews but have not been moved to purchase until now.) I have been moving towards gearing up GREY MAN style--snk807 fits in well. MORE LIKE THIS PLEASE. (You have done GREY MAN/WROL gear videos before "grey man" was even a thing.)
The leather band on my Victorinox 241737 is very comfortable and doesn't cause me a rash (no leather band I've ever had has caused me a rash). Victorinox claims it's the same leather used to make boots for firemen. I have no experience with the leather they may use for other watch models. Had to google grey man style as I wasn't familiar with the term. There are several stages, but principles of the lowest stage I've long since employed when travelling abroad so as not to be the obvious American.
keensoundguy; it is the buckle. It isn't just victorinox. A dermatologist told me that it had to do with hardening agents used in the hardware of many watchbands. First watch that didn't give me a rash was skagen. I live near their former hq and haven't bought a watch since they left. I am in the market for watches.
$100 bucks or more now, still worth it. Why Not Minot? was what we called it. That place and Cannon in NM are impossible to go AWOL from...they can still see you a week later walking.. Thanks for your service from a flightline rat who was at Luke AFB in the early 80's. F-16 comm-nav-ecm tech. I picked up a black face one a couple months ago and immediately replaced the band with a Barton Leather NATO style, extremely comfortable combination. It replaced a Timex Expedition that I loved except that I had to push a button to illuminate the dial, that I don't like. Looking for a simple faced watch I found this, so far I really like it.
Seiko 5's kick ass across the board and are one of the BEST entry level Automatic watches in the WORLD! Uses the same 7S26 movement as the SKX-007's and the older Monster's.
I bought the green version, SNK805K2, my freshman year of high school. That was six years ago, and I have had it on my wrist every day since then.
Title Text Goes Here!
I've had my SNK (also navy) for over 3 years and I love it. The smaller case makes it amazingly comfortable. Always great to see personal kit make TnP HoF retroactively.
I can't believe how cheap these used to be.
They're now somewhere around $150 on Amazon.

love this watch, but.... my snk809 led to over 3k in watch spending, so be careful. Thanks for the vids.
This is an absolutely awesome watch, was my first automatic and still one of my favorites. Bulletproof movement, great crystal, wonderful design and it only looks better with wear.
I've been eyeballing this watch for a while.......6 months and just ordered it today after you reviewed it. thanks for possibly the new addiction.

Thank you for serving for us. God Bless you and your family.
Love auto watches! Cool air force stories at the beginning of vid. Nice to see TD restocked the patches, I'm getting some in the mail tomorrow.
I used to calibrate the T-38 jet engine test cell at Holloman AFB, NM. Neat little jet. I happen to start terminal leave on Saturday after 20 years!
Been wearing this watch every day for about a year. I love how simple & classic it looks. Best part is that it is thin enough to not get snagged up on my bunker coat sleeve when getting quick dressed unlike the g-shock.
Nice to see an auto reviewed! I've had the SNK809 for years. High value, high quality, love it.
He's into the Seiko automatics!! Monster, 007, and Turtle time! Awesome!
How do i get my hands on the JDM ones? I'm a newb
Aaron Oosterhoff Carefully browse eBay and check watch websites, like jomashop.

Love my SRP777 turtle
Great watch, but if it doesnt run on wolf ammo, im not buyin.
Pizza Steve Laughing way too hard at this
well u couldve said "does it take glock mags!" that never gets old! :)
Pizza Steve It needs more gimping.
Great seeing this here Nutn! A legend for sure.
welcome back nutnfancy, I will watch every watch episode!!!!

Austin Lathan you must've gotten really lucky. I've had mine for 2 months now and it's gaining 5 minutes a month.
I don't know how I missed this review. Fantastic! I've been looking at this watch for a while but never knew if it would be what I was looking for. Your review helped a lot. Thank you!
Just bought this. Can't wait. Thanks, nutnfancy
Was surprised how much I love this watch. Swapped out the strap for a NATO. Love hearing about your Air Force days, hope to hear more.
I have three of these watches that I have worn over the last four years or so, and I love them.
That second hand is what I'm going to look for in all my watches now!
you mean the sweep instead of the tick like most standard watches?
all "automatic" or basically mechanical movement watches do the sweeping motion so "automatic" is what you want to look for if you want that sweep.
MacTX thanks! That will help the search!
MacTX you have your manually wound watches too. They are just called mechanical for the straight handwinding.
Love mine. I got it in the black and picked up a few 18mm straps to change out. Its my go to work watch for the exact reasons you stated. Sits low on the wrist and doesn't get snagged on things.
Automatic. Glad to see the legend get a review! lol
This watch is currently $143 on Amazon
I've had mine for a couple of years and haven't taken it off except for when I change straps. Mine started out gaining a couple seconds a week now it loses a little less than a minute a week. I've played a bunch of volleyball and golf with it on so I'd say it holds up pretty well.
Grew up in Minot! Loved seeing Air Force jets flying over when growing up!
I have the snk805 going on 2 years now it's the best watch I've owned.
Just ordered the blue one... Trying to convince my wife to get me the rangeman for Christmas lol. Between your gun and watch reviews I'm gonna go broke! Thanks Nutn!
I have this watch...it is a great piece. Liked it so much I bought one for my dad and brother. They are simple, reliable, and a great value.
Nutn: you got into my wallet faster than a pickpocket at Heathrow with this WRV. Instant addiction! I was leaning toward the OD green, but the beige caught my eye and wouldn't let go. A replacement band may be my next fix. Keep having fun with your crew, share what you can, and thank you for your service!
cool watch review, love the info on the ace program. That is the kind of stuff that makes your vids so interesting, and keeps me watching!
absolutely love this watch. simple is sometimes the best way. always been a huge fan of Seiko.
Seiko 5s are classics for sure
Finally showing the autowinders some love, I like it. Now if only mine didn't go flying off my wrist and right under my foot a week ago. :( Gotta send it back and see if they can replace the clasp and face and get her working again, I love that watch. NL "Seven Sierra Two Six" is what he said, though.
Oh ok, I heard zero not sierra, I guess you could be right, he says it a bit strange (for a non native English speaker)

The 5 series of Seiko watches is vast, I feel like there are thousands of variants. There is a variant for anyone's taste.
The auto-movements in the SNK can be quite variable in terms of their accuracy. Some gain 3-5 seconds/day. Some of them lose 2-5 seconds/day. Mine gains a couple of seconds a day at least (if I wear it for multiple days in a row).
Fast is def better than slow. 😎
Cool seeing the shots of MAFB. My father worked at the 5th bomb wing with the simulators back then.

Thanks Nut'n!! This is exactly what i've been looking for. within 10 seconds into the vid i was sold. No Batterys. simplicity is best.. Take Care..

totaly agree

I've got one! had it for about a year. Love it and love the price. been a great piece for me so far.
I'm a huge fan of the Seiko 5 line... for a few dollars more the SNZG15J1 is just pure awesome!
Thank you for your service Nutn !
HIGH FLIGHT TV STATION SIGN-OFF - 1972
Ordered an OD before the vid was over. Good find. Thanks
bought my first watch ever due to this review, keep em coming
I have had this seiko in black for a while. Got it for the same reason--high value auto. The only negative is the size, and it sits in a drawer for that reason. I'm a watch guy and other than several Tag Heuers, I like Seikos for the styles and value. Both their quartz and autos are very nice. A nice classic style is the JDM model Seiko SARB035. I've got the green one with a NATO band on it.. Love it.
Really cool to hear Air Force stuff for us Navy dudes thanks man for the as always xclnt review
Are there jewelers that will work on these and give them a "tune up" every few years?
I like it. Thanks. Do boots and watches pair up in combos like some people are with wine and food?
woodstrekker
If girls can have shoes to match the purse than I can have a watch for every pair of shoes.
Ordered one. Should be here tomorrow. I don't expect the lume to be crazy, but if it fades out overnight it's going back for something else.
Best watch yet on your channel. This is the little brother (cousin?) to the iconic Seiko SKX family, known for their robust 7S26 movement.
Great review once again, and thank you for your service.
I've wanted an autowinder and love it in the O.D. color! Nice review.
Be interesting to hear a long term update for this watch. 7-9% negative review on amazon of the watches not working after some time.
ODG automatic field watch. Insta buy. I've been needing a cheap everyday watch for work & it just looks freaking cool.
Of course there’s a nut’n review of this watch! It’s also a short video wow!! Haha just giving you hell. I just searched for it and see nut’n and gotta click it first!
This video was watching for the first few minutes alone haha reminds me of the air force stories series which rocked
I have always loved the T38 Talon! nice watch also!
Any kinetics in the collection?
Great watch! I got one for Christmas a few years back for Christmas. at work it takes a beating but still looks and works great. Only issue is the pins holding the band in place pop out. It's where I got a scratch on the glass. A Zulu band would have prevented this.
Wow! Never noticed how much tacticaldoodle looks like mrs. nutnfancy! Very cool picture to see as a long time subscriber.
Cool watch and fun to hear some more of your personal history. By the way, any chance of a review in the future with the Browe TCO or BSO? Seems like it might be a cool little 4x optic.
I have this watch in black. Love it.
Your my hero nutnin. I love your stories.
What carrier is in your picture? I was on the U.S.S. Saratoga CV60. ( 81=85). Love the Talon!
Amazing video nutn!! Please post that armitron video you teased before...
I've got the 809. Only issue is the power reserve is no where near what they advertise. Having to reset after not wearing for a while is annoying, but easily done. It's very comfortable, to the point where I forget it's even there sometimes.
I have this watch/ it quits working on occasion even after being wound. Idk if it's jamming or not but only had it a few months.
Hey Nutn, is the Air Force just pretty chill with names for aircraft? You have your talon there, then the MC-130 Combat Talon, and Talon II respectively. Seems like they'd want more differentiation but I dunno.
Thanks for showing this one . I really like this watch. I have been looking for a plain watch that just shows time not flashy and no bells and whistles and cheap. if it breaks just buy another.
now this is the kind of watch i can buy guilt free! :) getting the OD sing i kinda getting a band of brothers vibe to it.. Thanks nutn!
Bought 2 a few years ago. 1 made in Japan. Great watch. Wear it everyday.
Been rocking one of these for a few weeks now, EDC. I just got a motorcycle too and it fits nicely under the glove. No problems with water so far, but all I've done with it is lightly wash my hands so I guess that doesnt say much
I'm a little concerned with the accuracy haven't heard good things, its okay though because unless its always on your wrist you'll probably be setting it before its an issue anyway
However, I set it down before bed and its still tickin when I wake up
Why do you say you like a wider lug Nutn? Wouldn't it get in the way more? It would allow less movement of the wrist, and more leverage toward breaking the lugs themselves I would think
I agree that the crown is pretty small and hard to work with, BUT it stays out of the way when you're not using it (which is more often than not so I like it)
Don't get the metal band version guys, I have it and it's noisy!
How would you rate this watch vs. the Casio G-Shock GA100? That's been my go to, budget, do anything watch for years.
Maybe I didn’t catch it in the video, but does the bezel rotate like a dive watch?
Seiko 5's kick ass across the board and are one of the BEST entry level Automatic watches in the WORLD! Uses the same 7S26 movement as the SKX-007's and the older Monster's.
