Awesome video Eddie! I was thinking of using Zigbee Smart Plugs that have a built-in repeater to strengthen my home automation network. The Smart Plugs are slightly more expensive to the USB Repeater, but with the Smart Plugs you also get the benefit of having the option to manage a device (turn on/off electronics, reading power consumption). You also don't lose a power plug connection when using a Smart Plug.
@@lucsegers6931 Hi! I am using a large collection of Sonoff devices. For this purpose, I am using a smart plug which I've payed 12 USD. But, in theory, all powered devices could work as a router (a zigbee smart bulb for example).

Hi Eddie, I love your videos man, keep it up. Am a newbie in HA. I have HA running on argon 1 M.2 rpi 4 (1gb) with 512 ssd. My house is 2 floors. Can advise me on these issues below. 1. Am running zigbee with ZHA 2. I have 1 zha coordinator connected directly to my argon with an extension cable. Sonoff dongle flashed with latest firmware 3. I have 1 sonoff dongle on each floor connected to power sockets and flashed with router firmware. 4. Most of my wired devices show as routers as well. 5. After i paired all the devices in the house (95 devices), the signal is very unstable, and very often, my devices get disconnected, and some shows unavailable. Can this your device work with ZHA, and how can i achieve a stable connection.
For a stable zigbee network ... you have to install devices that act as routers and which you have done. I am not sure if there is a way in ZHA to check out the zigbee map to verify how your devices are connected and thru which devices each other are connected. This dongle solved issues to conenct devices on multi floored house.
@@eddiedsuza I have 5 Ikea Signal Repeaters paired with zigbee2mqtt thru "Sonoff Zigbbe USB P" ... My interest was to check the power/range. At home the best linkages seem to happen with the Sonoff Basic ZBR3

Hello Alonso ... Since its a repeater ... The zigbee cordinator will use it to bradcast signal as well as keep the network connected .... I used 6 for a Huge Home with 84 zigbee end devices ... Worked like magic .. from what i have seen - theres no limitations to conenctions
@@eddiedsuza I changed my coordinator and put the old one as a repeater on my network, no apparent change at first (yesterday)... 24 hours later oh boy!! there is a great improvement in LQI I've been cursed with concrete walls, so my network is not perfect (about 6 devices below LQI 70 from a total of 48 in my network)
Hi thanks for this tip: does this repeater needs to be plugged into a power adapter? Can I also plug it in any active device with a USB port? And does such a repeater needs to be in the vicinity of the coordinator, or can it also work with: Coordinator-> repeater-> repeater-> device.
Hey Eddie, thanks for this great quality video. I also struggled with deploying zigbee network in a two-storey house with 110 devices and a CC2652P as the coordinator. However, the zigbee network couldn't stablise itself, especially when I have more than 80 devices on the same network. Devices dropped out randomly even though about 40 of them are router devices. I ended up with having three Zigbee2mqtt instances running on different channels. Have you ever experienced this problem before? What would be your suggestion to this kind of problem. Thanks.
Hey Kevin. Thanks for the compliment. Some tips that i would do .... 1. Update the CC2652P firmware 2. WIthin the Zigbee2MQTT frontend > Go to Maps > Load the Map to check which devices are connected to which router and which child devices have no connection. This will allow you to debug the zigbee mesh network. 3. For those child devices that are not connected to the mesh - i would repair them again so that they can find the nearest router. I did have this issue - and I did the above. And for those devices that had poor connectivity - i added this dongle and it solved the issue. Let me know how it turns out for you. Cheers
@@eddiedsuza Thanks for your response. Based on what you suggested, I think I didn't do anything wrong. Although CC2652P stated to be able to handle over 200 devices, but I doubt this number after my experience. Maybe my router devices were not functioning properly (though not very likely to be). The good thing is that it has been much stabler after I separate them into three independant networks.

Their functionality is the same - however you need to make sure the IKEA is able to join zigbee2mqtt

The repeater automatically repeats the signal from the cordinator and any nearby routers. The linking will happen automatically as one zigbee mesh network
I tried and it seems that it’s connect but does not take nearby end devices. I had to unpair and pair again near the repeater for it to work
Do weak signal devices automatically connects to this repeater? Or do i have to bind a device to this repeater on z2m settings?
They connect automatically and its the coordinator that assists in self healing the network.
