Anyone who makes music shouldn't take this guys word as having any weight.
It's just his opinion.
To me, they all sound very similar, as if the same few samples and beats have been used by everyone.
So don't be afraid to add new sounds, just because they aren't considered part of drill doesn't mean they won't be.
Adding some more melody, some more interesting percussion and horns might take it into a whole new sub genre that everyone else will then copy.
Nobody makes a name by sounding like everyone else.
