Fabulous little hack with the 7 taps on Build Version! Love seeing things like that but must be incredibly frustrating on a car you’d just expect everything to work perfectly on (lovely choice by the way).
It works maybe 3 in 5 times now, furiously annoying. I've given up pretty much and just use an old iPhone and CarPlay when I know I'm going on longer journeys, which to be fair isn't often. It's only done 3k since new!
Same on my 2017 F34 M GT. Unreliable usage, sometimes doesnt connect at all. But even better: not usable anymore since Spotify closed permissions on using A4A on 31/07/2020. SO ITS BACK TO SIMPLE BLUETOOTH STREAMING, NO PLAYLISTS OR SIMILAR FEATURES. Thats 63.000 € for my BMW plus 800 € for my Galaxy S10+ giving my the features of a simple 20 € Bluetooth headset. All caused by software issues. Everything worked fine once - disregarding the connection issues. Technology at its best!
Hi Michael, your post made me realize that my problem wasn’t on my phone, but on the Spotify. Mac gave me a solution that worked so well for me. He posted yesterday: “ I've downgraded the Spotify on my phone. Have a look here: spotify.en.uptodown.com/android/versions Version 8.5.66.1002 works fine for me. Remove Spotify, copy the package to your phone and run/install it. You'll need to turn off auto-updates in the PlayStore. “ So, I hope it could help you too. Good luck! Thanks.
@@magelamachado2035 Thanks for passing it on to me. The hint to downgrade came from me, see further down. @Mac: could you alter your vieotitle so everyone seeking the problem knows there is a solution here? I reckon many users are just fed up with using spotify on BMW...
What I'm generally finding is that if I'm using the Spotify native app on my bmw, when I then move to the menu, and try to reopen Spotify through the "media" button on my joystick, it doesn't go in the bmw Spotify app, but it opens the android auto one, that generally doesn't work very well. Plus. If I use Spotify or other media app through Android auto, during the listening, the audio starts stuttering. It doesn't happen with bmw Spotify app. That is making me mad
No. "My BMW" app only supports Spotify in Android car mode on iDrive 7.0. You need to reinstall the BMW application on "BMW Connected" apk, version 6.4.1.6349 or earlier. Then Spotify will run on iDrive 6.0 or 5.0.
@@kmarcin4583 I have the correct version of bmw connected installed on my phone, but my car isnt compatible, still. Do I need to restore a previous version of idrive too? I should be on nbt evo idrive6
Hi. Unfortunately, 'BMW Connected' app no longer works. From July 30, 2021 my app doesn't connect to BMW server and it's no possible to log in. I have no idea how to run Spotify on iDrive 6.0.
@@andreas39157 Ah that sucks. You have a S20 Ultra too right? I'll s/shot all my settings on my phone & in the car, see if that helps. Like I say, it's a hell of a lot more reliable with this setup for me, but still not perfect. Very irritating.
@@andreas39157 So, a mate has an M235, and we have been playing with it on there. In his it's the other way way around to mine. If spotify is running already on my phone when I get in to his it never seems to connect. However, if I kill spotify on my phone, get in and fire up his car, and *then* start spotify, I get the warning on spotify about driving and the button to unlock....and spotify appears in his car. This gets weirder and weirder.
Hello Mac. I have the same S20 phone and idrive7. The Spotify connection is driving me crazy. It's patchy at best and the idrive app is full of glitches like the idrive screen showing a list of songs of album A but playing songs of album B. Will give your solution a try. Question to you and anyone reading this - what do you think of the sound quality of Spotify? I have the Spotify hifi subscription and the Harman Kardon sound system in the car, but the sound sounds very low quality, especially compared to DAB radio in the same car. Was wondering if maybe the idrive Spotify app is set on some data saving low audio quality (if so, is there a way to fix this?)
I've given up with it tbh. I use my daughter's old iPhone and car play. Irritating as hell. If I drove more it would be irritating enough to change cars tbh.
Hi Mac, thank you for your explanations about spotify on idrive. It was very instructive. I have a 328 M Sport 2017 and I have noticed last month, that my spotify doesn’t appear on the idrive screen anymore. I was thinking that could be something wrong on my Samsung Galaxy S8+ but, as Michael P. said, maybe it won’t be possible anymore as Spotify closed permissions to that. Is there some alternative do see the Spotify app and the playlists on the idrive display? Thanks a lot.
Oh it's infuriating isn't it. The issue is with the latest Spotify App as somebody else said. What I've done is: Turned off auto-updates in the PlayStore (very irritating tbh...) Removed Spotify - the updated one. Installed version 8.5.66.1002 from here: spotify.en.uptodown.com/android/versions You can do that by copying it to your phone and just running it. Downside is you must not update the app - hence the turning off the autoupdates. Mine works fairly reliably with this...but I'm fairly close to just binning it and keeping an old iphone to use for CarPlay. Beyond stupid.

100% works! Make sure you goto the link into the discription and download an older version of Spotify 👍🏼
If you have a newer Android and an older car, then try changing to version 1.3, this worked for me with a Pixel 5 and a 2016 BMW.
Thx mate. Just followed the steps in the video and the Spotify icon appeared back in my M4 Competition LCI.
