  • REMASTER COMING SOON... okay, maybe not so soon... but yeah, it's coming, i promise.
    yeah i kinda did just give up on the sound mixing. meh, whatever. enjoy this mess anyway.
    UPDATE (2023/04/05): @BotezLive REPOSTED THIS VIDEO AS A SHORT! still kinda cringing at the amateurish mixing and the messier parts that they had to cut from their edit, but hopefully i'll like the remaster better when i've released it!
    EDIT (2023/03/17): now has a proper thumbnail and subtitles for whatever you can't hear clearly!
    clips/videos used, in order:
    • BotezLive Loudest Alex...
    • So I ran into Hikaru i... (~16:25)
    • How To Beat Magnus Car...
    • Alex Rage Quits
    • "I am a woman of self ...
    • Alexandra Botez blunde...
    all clip/video credit goes to @BotezLive and all song credit goes to the respective bands listed below.
    songs used, in order:
    Breaking Benjamin - "I Will Not Bow"
    Slayer - "Angel of Death"
    Slipknot - "Eyeless"
    Skillet - "Circus for a Psycho"
    Avenged Sevenfold - "We Come Out at Night"
    Breaking Benjamin - "I Will Not Bow" (again)

    *REMASTER COMING...* well, it's not coming so soon. college is killing me. hope you understand. just feel free to stay tuned anyway though.
    thank you all for the love on this video, your song/band suggestions, and everything else so far!
    expect a lot of small and big changes alike in the remaster, including:
    - *NO MORE EXCESSIVELY LOUD MUSIC SECTIONS!*
    - a better-fitting scream for the "Eyeless" section!
    - don't worry; I'm not removing the appearance of Alex beating Magnus with odds... i'm bringing back ONE idea, "(sic)" by Slipknot, that i ended up cutting during production of this video, and this time i'll be using ALL FOUR of her epic "YES!"s with it, all synced to the beat! no more wasted potential there!
    - ALL NINE of my original sync ideas will be coming back, plus a couple of new ideas!
    - an appearance from Trivium, who were snubbed in this edit but will be getting MUCH MORE than their originally intended appearance in the remaster!
    - vocal appearances from Magnus Carlsen and Anna Cramling in my first ever use of a call-and-response sync rather than the usual "this person and this musician say something at the same time" sync!
    - actual effort to sync secondary talking, screams and yells, like the "POINT-ONE! ARGH!" section!
    - no more burying of Alex's talking in the music!
    - more emphasis that she's a "lady who does not tilt" and other words to that effect before her last big "FUUUUUCK!"
    - more jokes! (hopefully)
    - filling up of certain parts of "dead space" within song sections!
    - overall, "tighter" editing and a "busier" feel to the music and video!
    *DON'T MISS IT!*
    ...until then, though, enjoy this other stuff i've put out, with better editing:
    - a video like this one but with Andrea's screams: ua-cam.com/video/Br2clHID438/v-deo.html
    - some surprise checkmates caught on-stream and their victims' reactions, with funny overdubbing: ua-cam.com/video/uhIxuwaFf24/v-deo.html

      @@Askhat08 i'm afraid more moments will need to wait until the release of part 2 (and potentially more sequels? idk; depends on whether i can gather enough good ideas and piece them together well). the goal of this remaster is to make this video less messy and bring it closer to what it could have, and should have, been.

    • @LightningGunne
      @LightningGunne  Рік тому +176

      yeah at the very least the important screams can be heard.
      i tried a lot of things with the "Eyeless"/"YES!" part, but i couldn't stop the song from crescendoing after the subsequent, deliberately muted "YES!"s, and all i could really do was to further lower the volume of the second part of the "Eyeless" section so that at least the song volume wouldn't have a sudden jump or increase to a point where it gets actually uncomfortable to hear without turning down the video volume.
      for the most part i set the songs' loudness to like 0.6 (none of them have spectacular dynamic range, and i could only get access to the loud remaster of "Angel of Death") and to "automatically reduce volume by 20%" when the Alex clips got louder, and i didn't wanna go too low with the song volume because i also wanted the majority of viewers who likely don't know the songs to hear, and get introduced to, the songs themselves and the lyrics/screams that were supposed to go so well with Alex's screams, and wanted to keep to a certain extent the power of parts like the "drop" of the beginning of "I Will Not Bow", the undeniably powerful long scream from "Angel of Death", and the random "fuck!" and contrast between the pre-breakdown and breakdown riff from "We Come Out at Night".

    • @LightningGunne
      @LightningGunne  Рік тому +55

      @@davidjames149 and it doesn't have to be that way. of course a great metal (or rock) song can still be appreciated and enjoyed even if it has a subpar DR, but that, in my opinion, should not encourage bands to compress and brickwall their songs just because "metal is supposed to be loud".
      look at the general reaction to the way the original _Death Magnetic_ was mixed and mastered, and compare it with the _Guitar Hero_ rips, the unofficial MarckIII remaster and the official remaster (i hope i'm remembering correctly that there is one), and you'll definitely notice something wrong with the original CD version. in that same vein, compare the widely available remasters of _Kill 'Em All_ and _Ride the Lightning_ against Thrash Rat's uploads of those albums' original vinyl recordings.
      look at Avenged Sevenfold's discography up to _Nightmare_ - especially _Waking the Fallen_ and _Nightmare_ - and the original mastering of _Diamonds in the Rough_ (if you can access its tracks anywhere, like on old unofficial lyric videos), and compare them against _Hail to the King_ , _The Stage_ , and the 2020 remaster of _DitR_ . it's quite apparent that A7X have broken free from the loudness war, and idk about you, but I'm all for it.
      our ears should be free to perceive the "rises" and "falls" and the building-up and releasing of tension in any song, and they can't really do that so well when the ostensibly quieter parts are too close in volume to the louder parts.
      (youtube fix your focking comment formatting smh look at what i have to do to not break it)

      @davidjames149 Рік тому +17

      @@LightningGunne 100% agree, dynamics help create tension and emotion, I am not particularly into metal myself, used to listen to a bit of hardcore back around 2010. It's not that simple tho, this is not auto-tuned or anything as far as I can hear, and still, most of the screams/growls are at the perfect note. So he needs to hear botez screams and find screams that are exactly the same note (or find songs that are in a key which contains that note). My guess is, this guy is very talented and very passionate about music, and the second he heard the botez scream he went "This kinda sounds like the scream/growl in this specific song". Which is quite impressive to me.

    • @LightningGunne
      @LightningGunne  Рік тому +1

      @Opethian181 iirc i didn't really take the notes of Alex's screams into consideration as much as i did their length and what she was saying in them, although i do agree that the notes are still pretty important. for the most part, though, i wanted to keep Alex's screams mostly untouched aside from the more simple and obvious editing tricks like muting/volume control (and because i had really very little experience with video editing at the time of making this video), so that's why there was no autotune/pitching up or down, or video speed control (this part was forced because OpenShot almost broke when i tried to slow down one Alex scream clip, forcing me to drop two ideas from the 9 sync ideas i originally had).

    0:33 is so well done because it's synced in two spots in one clip. It's probably my second favorite after the first clip😂

      @LightningGunne  Рік тому +1

      i mean technically the wordless scream after she blundered her rook wasn't synced (at least not deliberately because this was literally my first video and i didn't put that much time into the actual editing), but it will be in the remaster

    Haha I think it’s funny how she seems so innocent, but gets so passionate when it comes to winning/losing at chess. I’m the exact same when it comes to competitive games, though I probably swear a bit more 😂😂

      Reminded me of the band KillWhitneyDead. Extreme vocal and same instrumental + some screams of random people (best example: "Skip The Break Up Get To The Make Up"; and "Tip of my tongue" starting with a voiceline from the movie "The Girl Next Door").

    That was frickin' HILARIOUS. Excellent job. The only thing missing is the big climactic scream from The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" (put that on the next one!)

    • @LightningGunne
      @LightningGunne  Рік тому +1

      i don't know any The Who songs, but yeah, i'll check that one out and try to find a scream from either sister that'd fit well with it
      edit: oh, right, just wiki'd it and realized it's that one "YAHHHHH" song that gets played after someone makes an epic pun
