I want to get an education that will best position me to work with as many people as possible in helping them wake up and realize how important it is to take care of their health BEFORE they develop a chronic illness. I truly believe this is going to be one of the most necessary areas of expertise in the coming years. It’s so sad what we are doing to ourselves right now and how so many people just don’t know. My A1C reached 12 plus. Now that I left my diabetes doctors and dietitians. I do not follow my dietitians’ advice. I am on my own. In México you have to study 4 years to become a Nutritionist (In my collegue I had 4 years and a half) and then 1 year of social service or intership in a hospital 🙄 and a Dietitian is someone who has a tecnic career of one or two years.

    • @melman7738

it varies with state and program too. In the program I'm in it takes about 4 years in the university but because I did 2 years in a community college I only have to do 3 years. Then you have to apply for the intership but before that we have to do community service too (volunteet work) in the nutrition area. Only then can we take the Exam to receive the certification

It's true that nutritionists aren't dietitians however nutritionists can be certified i.e., CNS, CCN, etc. The CNS certification requires 1000 hours of supervised experience plus an exam so it's a way to legitimize someone who has earned the degree. Anyone with that certification is just as qualified as a dietitian regardless of if it requires licensing in your specific state. I also like how this was never mentioned in the video. She is, after all, an RDN so she wouldn't have any preconceived notions or biases ;). Sure, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist but anyone with common sense is going to do a little more research to vet the person they are entrusting their health to.

Thankfully in most of the provinces in Canada calling yourself a nutritionist means that not just anyone can call themselves that. You need to attend an accredited post secondary college or vocational school, take an exam and do regular upgrading. Most schools offer this course with a diploma or certificate at the end.

in Malaysia, Dietitians and nutritionist are two different career. Both profession in Malaysia (for government sector) are protected by law (Ministry of Health Malaysia). Mostly dietitians practicing their skills in clinical field such hospital where their targeted clients are the patients (cure through nutritional therapeutic), whereas nutritionist practicing their skills in community setting which is more to promote nutrition and health for example for community in district and country level, schools and universities. Their main goal is to prevent NCDs (prevent through nutritional knowledge and awareness). In private sectors, nutritionist mostly work in food and beverages company to do nutritional research and promote their company's products to the public.

omg in Italy it's actually so different! Here dietitian is only a 3 years degre and they can't work alone. They need the supervision of a nutritionist or a medical doctor, also, they can't prescript diet, they can only suggest you tips. Instead a nutritionist need to have a biology degree (3 /5 years) and after and other degree in Nutrition (2 years). the nutritionists works indipendetly and, of course, prescribes diet, but the important thing it's that NUTRITIONIST helps people with disease (eating disorders, chronical disease, ...) since the profession is very close to a medical doctor.

It is a shame that in the UK Nutritionists are not as valued mainly because there is little regulation. I would like to be a nutritionist because its not restricted to the current government food standards. Unfortunately, I've read that a dietitian can not really go against things they don't agree with without being struck off. Food in hospitals are less than healing and apparently regulated to dietitians 😲

  • @jaynesteinmetz6315

It is true that nutritionist does not have the legal designation that a dietitian has, the profession of nutritionists (4 year degree and beyond) include those that work in food service management, public health and policy, research, and community nutrition. Professionally, nutritionists is the broader term and dietitian is part of the path that also includes the internship and RD exam. There are other paths in a graduate program that also give nutritionists specific skills, such as a public health degree to work in the policy arena. The person with a college degree in nutrition can work in all the fields that a dietitian does, except clinical practice. If someone is a nutritionist, the next question would be to ask if they have a college degree in nutrition and then have confidence in their guidance.

😊Registered dietitians and nutritionists can have the same education level and completed an internship or professional experience meeting the 1200 hours. Both can sit for the register dietitian exam. Here is the difference:
1 person passed the RD exam and is a registered dietitian or RD.
1 person did not pass the RD exam and is RD eligible. The exam can be taken as many times as needed; until they pass.
Jobs that offer RD eligible positions, usually required the person the take the RD exam and pass to keep the position. The person cannot use RD designation in anyway after their name.
Both can work is similar areas depending on the job requirements, location, the work sector etc.
In 2024, however, a masters degree will be required to to sit for the RD exam.
My advise would be to vet both, check credentials just like an other health professional if you are a consumer.
For professionals: pinpoint your specialty and go entrepreneurial esp. if the hospital or medical environment is not your thing.

I'm 287 and am averaging losing 3-5 lbs a month. I'm working out with a trainer 5 days a week (virtually for now). I get one really kick-ass sweat dripping in my eyes workout per week and am too sore the rest of the week to kick it into that gear again although I still do the workouts. In addition to daily 1-2 mile walks. Something in my brain and muscles clicked this week for the first time and I felt my abs take the brunt of the workout rather than my thighs and shoulders, and all of a sudden my squats and deadlifts burn in my glutes which they didn't at all before. In a month I've gained massive range of motion in my hips and much more flexibility which is making it easier. But the soreness is intense, I'm assuming that means I need better nutrition?
I'm eating 1500 - 1700 calories a day. I'm fighting my sugar addiction ( chocolate) but still allow myself a little something (like a pudding cup) here and there. I am pretty carb heavy though. I've been told I can still have some carbs but they should be things like Ezekiel bread, not regular English muffins. I eat a lot of vegetables, no red meat (it hurts my stomach), lots of chicken. Does anyone have any thoughts?

@@SarahMoranNutrition I'm in my 60's and have switched to plact based eating, following a dramatic surgery two years ago. Im so inspired that I am looking towards the possibility of acquiring another masters degree in nutrition. I'm going to start with the T. Colin Campbell certificate from e-Cornell University then take it from there. Thanks again.

body age is not a real measurement but an interpretation of data, but muscle mass and body fat percentage should be generally reliable as it's raw data

Thank you. I had an argument with my partner over the nutritionist we saw at a WIC center who claimed my infant, who is severely allergic to all of the main allergens and then some, is not actually allergic to those foods. He is allergic to the environment and infants can't actually be allergic to food. Nutritionist also said my "failure to thrive" Baby who falls in the 1 percentile for weight is not underweight, he is just small. This nutritionist was such an idiot and I knew she wasn't very well educated. Boyfriend seems to want to trust anyone with a title (like nutritionist, in this case) despite the literal bullshit she was talking to us. Thank you for proving me right.....

Le llaman diferente en México que en UD y Canadá. Acá serías una Dietista Registrada aunque en México a lo mismo le dicen Nutricionista Registrada (Licenciada).

Here in the Netherlands there's an association for nutritionists, and you can only be part of that with a degree/certificate. Therefore people looking for a nutritionist know who's legit and who's not because of the online database which is accessible for everyone. Keeps the scammers away 😅

    • @robokill387
      @robokill387 4 роки тому

problem is that the association and the degrees themselves are a scam.
