Ooooo I remember this episode! This is one of my favorite episodes because of how mad MGK got. My favorite one however was the episode where they went to look for this guy named Tony with the victim and his cousin and after going to like 3 different houses the victims cousin said your never gonna find tony because tony was me!!! So the cousin catfished her cousin for 4 years and why you may ask?? The cousin straight up said “you never should’ve called me a fat ass Kelly price.” 😂😂 that episode will live in my memory 😂😂😂

yeah I'm Haitian-american queer and nonbinary. The general idea is "never tell your grandparents" and my mom and her sibs mostly ignore it. (or give a light dusting of bigotry.) Id be genuinely surprised to meet Haitian elders that were accepting. Especially since the vast majority are extremely religious. I'm talkin 10+ min long prays and church 3 times a week.
They drive past my old high school when MGK says “YOO we in the ghetto now” when he absolutely was not. And one of the girls had graduated from my school a few years before and let me tell you, the conversation on Facebook the next day was INSANE

I think Nev and Max's initial intention for the show was to help people. But because wholesome doesn't sell, it pushed Max to eventually quit because you just see how 'done' he is in every episode. I remember reading an instance of someone going on the show and spoke out on social media afterwards saying how he appeared on the show wasn't really him. That he got a lot of pressure from producers to create more drama and be more dramatic.That it caused a lot of problems in his life as he started getting hate mail and threats despite him being the victim on the show. After that, I stopped watching the show. Just like all reality TV, it's scripted to some degree.
Show business isn't for everyone and everyone finds their true calling. Trial and error is all what life is
Everyone has a guilty pleasure reality show and Catfish is definitely mine. My favorite will always be the one where a woman catfished her cousin because he called her a "fat Kelly Price". Catching that during it's premiere was insane.

A girl I went to school with was on Catfish. It was def all for show. She was the catfish on her episode and then later went on herself saying “you caught me now help me see if the person I’m talking to is a catfish”. Everyone in our town knew it was crap. The big reveal was that the person “catfishing” her was Trans FTM, which she of course already knew but pretended she didn’t. What a way to get exposure 🙄

I remember the one episode with the guy who was allegedly harassed by this girl who pretended to have had cancer. The guy was in a relationship and his girlfriend couldn't stand the situation anymore. They broke up. When Nev and Max confronted the guy and Alyssa, she reveals that the guy has been sending her dick pics and texting all sorts of dirty stuff. The guy was like "whatever" and it triggered the hell out of Max.
I will never forget the Blaire and Markie episode mostly for the insane lies Markie makes up. The woman claimed she couldn't meet up because she was KIDNAPPED and something about a religious cult. It gets so bad even Nev lays into her.
Yesss any episode where Nev looses his cool is a winner for me haha

i think it's good advice to be wary of secretive people in 2022 but this is very funny and a bit surreal to hear for me, someone who has been online since 1998, (i was online pretty young tbh) so i am incredibly secretive out of habit. no sharing photos, name, location, etc because it was so ingrained into me not to lol don't get me wrong i think you're right since the culture of the internet has changed so much over the decades. it was just a moment for me.
Yeah fr! I'm a more recent person, but my dad works in tech and I was raised on "fake name, fake age, fake pictures". Although I have been using my real face online, I mostly post it to people who I already know are real ajdjdks
I don't use any social media apart from tumblr (and UA-cam obviously lol if that counts) and have always wanted them to do a Tumblr episode of this show since it works so differently both in its interface and culture to other social media; hardly anyone uses their real picture or name and you have to really work to find any real information about someone if they haven't put it in their bio or a pinned post, that's if they've posted it at all. It'd be wild lol it's better for my mental health than any other social media though, I don't get why you'd want to use your real name and picture and have your real friends/family/coworkers online when you could literally just go outside and do that in real life. Going online should be a break from real life
I was born in 2001 and started being online very young and so same as you it was ingrained in me by my parents to not share any personal information to people online. Like I'm an adult now but I'm still quite wary and nervous when people I talk to online want to know my name or want to know what I look like. I didn't even realize until this video that not sharing personal information about yourself online is considered sketchy behavior because growing up that was just taught to me as the #1 internet safety rule lmao.
It's not concerning to not be attracted to masculine women when you thought you were talking to a feminine woman. That's like being disappointed that the person you were talking to is old when you thought they'd be young. The fact that it was scripted and she wanted to come off that way is the concerning part.
If you're talking to someone online and want to verify options include:
1 reverse image search
2 try to find them on another social media app
3 ask for a weirdly specific photo (saluting, touching their nose with a certain number of fingers)

OMG you have to cover the episode where the guy actually believes he is dating Katy Perry, even after he meets his catfish. Or the episode where the wife is cheating on her husband... with her husband. Or Dylan and Savenia, which is really sweet. Or the one with Justin, the guy posing as a girl to chat up other guys, even though he stresses he is definitely not gay. Or the one where it's an entire group doing the catfishing. Also: Antwone and Tony, 'you should never have called me fat!' So many good episodes to choose from.

A lot of the newer episodes with the new host Kamie during COVID are great. Honestly prefer the over zoom format of the show because there’s less filler of them waiting in a park for someone. Just feels like there’s more drama overall.
I was catfished by an ex. It was the 2nd most terrifying time in my life. He used his friends pictures and when I went to meet up with him I saw my ex waiting for me and he proceeded to try to get me to take him back with his "i hate myself / I NEED you speech) and kept mildly threatening me that he'd hurt himself if I didn't get back with him. I told him I couldn't and he needed help and left. And he proceeded to text me as I'm driving calling me names and that no body will love me like he did and sent a picture of a knife and saying if I didn't come back he'd do it. And I'm in my car having a panic attack and my friend ( thank gods for her) I called her and explained and she told me to come to her house asap. He kept texting me threatening me and she took my phone and blocked him.
This was my introduction to MGK back whenever it aired and I thought he was so obnoxious.

MGK has a very storied history with underage girls. He also once called Megan telling her he had a gun in his mouth - threats of suicide being a trait of an abusive relationship. Their entire relationship seems very toxic, like a Sid Vicious and Nancy type thing.
ngl i think the most compelling Catfish episodes are the ones they did during quarantine over zoom. Something about cutting out all those travelling shots really forced them to put more effort into making the episode interesting

And he didn't care. I thiiiink they hugged by the end. I liked seeing a happy ending for at least one episode. She was SO nervous.
The moment MGK mentioned he's missing Fathers Day I remembered that I HAVE seen this episode. It was the first thing I'd even seen him in and I remember thinking how he was a good guy by the end of the episode (despite the dumb decision to NOT stay at home on Fathers Day). Specifically for the "you are a shameful citizen" line.
I'm straight but the troll is Hundra. The "stud", as she called the gal, is quite beautiful (pretty/handsome). I feel bad because I know how hard it is to find love for everyone so this just makes it harder. It's a shame that people hate each other over who they love. Just shameful.
