So inspirational. Even though I'd never be able to grow mangoes, it still gives me pleasure to see you enjoying them and I will do the best with what I can. Thanks for your channel!
Carrie is definitely one of my favorite varieties, completely fiberless ( strings ) and melt in your mouth creamy texture. plus they have have a unique flavor. Other features of this variety, its a good variety to keep under control for those that have limited space, its also a good variety to put in front of your yard, since the fruit do not turn bright yellow or red, they tend to attract less attention, if you know what I mean. I do recommend that any variety you are thinking of buying, that you try, and see if you like before planting. specially if all you have is room for one or two trees.
I've never seen mangoes so green on the outside and orange riped on the inside. I'm sure it is very delicious. It's too cold here in Minnesota during some seasons. Maybe in the future I will go visit warmer climates and pick them.
Nice Jake! Looking forward to harvest my Carrie mango too. Three mango fruit on my tiny 3 ft tall tree should be ready anytime since yours has been ripening! Great video!
Actually, after looking at the little Carrie mango tree, I felt that I really should just remove the fruit for it to get established. Almost like the tree was speaking to me... haha... So the three fruit are now on my countertop. The largest one will be left to ripen, the two smaller ones will be used in green mango recipes! Glad to see all of your trees are doing so well. With lots of care and work, these big trees definitely get you a good head start on fruit production!
some people are allergic and it might have sap which i saw on one of the mangoes and that gives you a rah that is like the one of poison ivy and they are both in the same family, Anacardiceae
Awesome, I cut mango down the side of the seed and then with a knife I cut 1cm lengths just to the skin of the half then cut horizontally so you get little squares and then flip it inside out. You get little squares of mango that come off the skin easily without cutting the skin off. I hope that makes sense. I cut the skin off the remaining seed and chew the flesh. Yummy rock on November when they are ripe here.
I'm from the Philippines, and the way we eat ripe mangoes is not to peel it, but to cut it lengthwise, and then cut gently one inch squares without poking through the skin and scope it with a spoon. The pit, we eat with our bare hands.
Since the title of the channel is VeganAthlete, i can assume that you wouldn't try a spicy shrimp paste with raw green mangos. They're a common street food in the Philippines but a substitute is just using salt or brined them. The unripe green mango has a tangy sour taste in them. Maybe try salty&spicy marinara sauce as a substitute too. Just looking at the green mango in this video made me crave for them with the spicy shrimp paste. Great job on growing them and hoping to grow them eventually myself.
My question is if someone asked for a couple of seeds from your Carrie mango's that you put in your compost would you send them to that person? And I really like your videos. Thank you for sharing.
Enjoying all your videos very much! Currently have very limited space at my home in N Phoenix. This year I plan on planting a mango and tangerine. Successfully rooted brown turkey fig cuttings. Gifted 2 of them to save on space. I want to graft on to my fig (late winter or early spring) Would love a 3 in 1 fig. Anybody in the Phoenix area willing to donated good clippings??

I live in Puerto Rico but my question is pretty simple, here in Puerto Rico mango trees grow suuper tall, how do you get yours to stay so small or any large tree for that matter?
love the vids...I just have a question..i recently bought a mango tree from lowes and its been on the ground for about a week. some leafs are turning brown and dying the leafs are drooping the look of lack of water. I live in yuma az....any suggestions that might help out?
Would you have any information on any nurseries that ship dwarf mangos? Would like to purchase a tree and grow in container. Do you think it’s possible? Thanks.
yes but with frost protection. In LAS it is in zone 9a and 8b, and only in zone 9b and 10a do they need minimal frost protection because there is average only one day-three days of frost there. in zones 10b, 11a, 11b, 12a, 12b, and 13a, you can grow them outdoors year round.
great vid man, Since i have re-potted my 80 cm mango plants 2 weeks ago i found out my soil mix would have been better if it contained some pumice which i only got it yesterday. Do you think i should transplant again adding the pumice to the mix (my actual soil mix is: 50 % peat moss + 50 % sand and forest floor mulch)? i am afraid transplanting again would give too much stress to them so what do you suggest?
can you tell me a variety that I can grow outside in the Pacific NW (SEATTLE), And if not which one can I grow indoors. Jamaica where I'm from had over 250 varieties of mango when I was growing up there and I miss it.
where in north Cali? i live in the bay area where is it about as warm as southern California(LA, San Diego, Long Beach). but i dont live in San Francisco where it is insulated by the ocean so it is in zone 10a and 10b. here in San Jose, we are in zone 10a and 9b but i am in zone 9b
@@subtotechnoblade2692 I'm in 9a, Chico. I have since planted a dozen different avocado types, planted 12 to 8 months ago, most thriving and recently-- 4 varieties of mango in pots....not sure if I'll plant mangos before winter or continue in pots for a yr. or two but I have heat lamps to get thru the few frost hr.s we will likely get.
Naturally ripened mango which falls on the ground is called "Paad" . I really don't know which variety mango is that. I can only guess this is very common variety looking at the green skin and yellow pulp. I live in Karnataka which produces a lot of mangoes. We had two huge mango trees in our front yard. They were very native variety. My neighbors had cumin + dill flavoured mango tree , it's called 'sabuski (even leaves also have cumin dill aroma ) which has more fibrous pulp you can't imagine but very aromatic and flavourful. The mangoes which are exported from India are hybrids or culminated. There are many many local unclassified varieties of mangoes in Karnataka which are much better than what are exported to USA. Use raw mangoes to ferment them with salt chilli mustard cumin powder and safflower oil. Eat it with cooked rice (my fav). In south India we like sourness of mangoes then Sweet ness
Another advantage to growing your own mango - cause they get shipped from Mexico or California or wherever to get all the way here to Missouri - then you cut it and find it is all bruised from the rough handling!!
if you want to try nice manggo go to indonesia ,there hv one variety manggo that call manggo arum manis ,that manggo is meaty ,sweet fragrant the seed is thin no fibre when the manggo ripe in the tree the manggo skin is thin ,it just delecius 😁😁😁
i think in zone 9b it can with minimal frost protection during the freezing temps. but in zone 9a, i think you would need to do more protection ( yes i know, protecting trees sucks.)
Exactly. Jake is eating the mango like a... White boy...😆. Come on Jake! That mango is a perfect specimen... grown right there in your own yard...in most perfect conditions. And you're peeling it too deep and carving it up... While apologizing for going after the skin and seed after the show. Lol... Come on man! You can eat the mango... the whole mango... and nothing but the mango. It's good from skin to seed. No chemicals or pesticide on it. Not picked before its ripened to perfection. Or anything like that. Cause usually when those mass produced supermarket mangoes are picked...green... and... young... Who knows what the hell you're getting? It's for sure that those mango skin are not good to eat. There is usually a substance in the skin that might burn and irritate the lips and palate. I know it's a long time ago now... but those mangoes looked gooooooda!😉
your cutting the mango wrong cut it by seed side and the other the same way. The two half you can dig with a spoon and the seed you just bite and eat, yummy. I mean do not eat the seed but leftover mango on the seed.
So inspirational. Even though I'd never be able to grow mangoes, it still gives me pleasure to see you enjoying them and I will do the best with what I can. Thanks for your channel!
