Ralfy you are the best. I have learned so much about scotch whisky and how to appreciate the difference in areas and distilleries from you over last year. You have done an extraordinary and amazing work of art with your videos not only by your reviews but also with all the extra topics. Specially keeping it real and as honest as possible. Thanks again and hope God gives you the health to continue these for years to come….

I could spent whole nights watching Ralfy videos just to witness what the automatically generated subtitles make of Bunnahabhain or Bruichladdich every time Ralfy says the names. It´s absolutely hillarious and it doesnt repeat a single version once.

When they first upped the twelve from 40 to 46.3%, they also brought their peated version out, labeled Toiteach,
It was a pleasant surprise, to say the least!
Raw peated character it had with lovely herbal notes till everything subsided to fruity dryness as incrementally water-treated.
I must have recycled my last bottle a good three years ago.
Now I'm drinking the one reviewed by Ralfy tonight.
I find that the two extra syllables, a Dha, haven't made it any better. If anything, a little more " technical" and a bit more timid.
Still an absolute joy of a malt moment!
Lastly, although it certainly takes water well, I have to say that I find this bolus attack a tad hasty if not cruel.
Gradual water addition surely prolongs the experience and lets one enjoy three or four different drams in the same session,
    Happy drams everybody!!

I agree on what you say about oxidization, up to the point where we're talking about rough or characterful or high alcoholic strength whiskies. I noticed whiskies with 43%, especially my beloved benromach 10, go stale over the course of several years. Admittedly, not stored in a cool dry climate but in my whisky cabinet, since it was an open bottle actively used. On the other hand, Springbank 10 did not suffer one bit. I think the jump from 43 to 46% is what provides longevity over the years of opened bottles.
Since then I started decanting whiskies with a fill level of about 1/3 into smaller bottles. And especially grand bottles you want to open and enjoy over many years like an old pulteney 21 are stashed in the cellar and when I want a dram, I consciously go on a whisky pilgrimage to get the good stuff haha.

One of my favorite bottles last year. Absolutely loved the way the clove and mesquite notes mingled with the burnt-twig peatiness... and with that oily texture... loved every pour.

I have a bottle of 7 year old staoisha open for about six months and I've been kind of forcing myself to drink it. The spirit is there, but there was just something lacking in the finishing. I also bought a toiteach a dha a couple of weeks ago from a local shop on discount despite being sceptical (due to the so-so staoisha). When I saw Ralfy dropped this i thought it was a sign to crack that bottle and it's miles better than the staoisha. Bunna have been on a roll recently, and after the super eirigh na greine, this is a belter at the price point!

I am realizing that anything peated is generally asking a premium price, this particular expression although no age statement is selling for around the same price here in Canada as the 12. Have both though and will thoroughly enjoy, Have a couple independent Bunna's from Cooper's Choice and Blackadder to get into as well. Cheers.

I like the peated Bunnas a lot!
The Toiteach a Dha is a really nice version at a really good price.
Most of the non-peated Bunnas are quite nice, as well. But the smoke suits that spirit very well!
84 points according to the "revised Ralfy System" is really well deserved!

  • @joan_b.

Not an easy review with that young Toiteach a dhà! 84 is fair and well deserved considering the youth of that spirit. Yes, pouring water calms down young spirits an reveals their hidden side. Thanks Ralfy for your sharp and unshakeable enthousiasm! Slàinte Mhath!

Ralfy is by far the best whisky reviewer on UA-cam. He also presents the whole thing without fancy gear or help, well versed and knowledgeable work.
Only problem is some times he mispronounces the malt M-mentions because some of you guys kinda overstretching them.

Hi. I am so glad you have reviewed this. Having enjoyed the unseated sister of this quite a lot, I'v been tempted, but the $75 price here in NJ has kept me wary. Since the choice is currently between this and the Glen Scotia 15, I may well go after this one now, since I do like the peat! Thank you again, as always.

Thank you Ralfy for your perspective!
Anyone know a lightly peated version of Bunna? I'd be very much interested, and since they make a bajillion bottlings, both official and indy, there might just be some... .
