Thank you, Stephanie. I am so happy with my Dixon tunable Low D whistle that I bought after seeing another one of your reviews. It takes a little bit of getting used to the minimal amount of air needed, but it has a beautiful sound for such a great price. I bought mine at McNeela Music. They ship quickly to the US.
I tried not to be influenced by the brand and closed my eyes. I particularly appreciated the clear and clean sound of both Dixons but I am aware that others might prefer another type of sound that is a little more raw which I also like in certain contexts. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all this wonderful community.
It might not be that apparent in the video but the Dixon actually has quite a bit of texture and airiness in the sound. I love it. It's not the airiest whistle I have but I find it's a good middle ground.
Thank you! I bought the Dixon tuneable whistle on your recommendation and I really love it! The sound is so rich and beautiful- just what I was looking for. Now I’m working on my piper’s grip!
Dixons for the win, imho, but above all else, THANK YOU for letting us hear the sound in natural, unembellished, echo-free tones; it is so hard to make choices on ANY wind instrument, when sound samples have been processed, mixed, and altered by multiple electronic processes, sicne that is not what we hear when we buy and play them.
Great Video - I am still on my way to a low D whistle. Unfortunately after a surgery there is nerve damage on the index finger of my left hand. So for now I am not able to play anymore. But I still love to listen - and I am still looking for that low D whistle 😊
I've tried lots of low Ds but I always find myself returning to my dixon low-D. It does waver a wee bit on the octaves, but when you switch to a different low-D you find yourself playing with much better control on the octaves. It's a great practice whistle, though perhaps not quite as loud for sessions as I'd like. This is why I keep a Kerrywhistles Chieftein Low-D, which is lovely and loud for sessions and has a great sound for slow airs.
THANK you for this video. Your channel has been a godsend, I've been really enjoying studying the tin high D whistle with the help of you and your channel. Unfortunately I've got some pretty monstrous hands and a lot of the ornamenting technique feels beyond me. Imagine my joy in discovering the big brother Low D whistle! I understand it's not just the same, but I do so love the sound and they look like they'd be great for my big old grabbers haha Anyhow, thanks very much for all your content, your Low D series has been very informative, all of your tutorials are. I appreciate it. You've got another satisfied patron subscriber in this chap. (Hah! Toot-orials! I can't be the first one who thought of that, right?)
I agree. And as Professor Sarah Jeffery, recorder professor specializing in contemporary music at the Royal College of Music in London, oftentimes advocates: “It’s not the recorder that makes the music…it’s you.” But, in this case - it’s the tin whistle. 😊🎶
I'd love a Carbony, but going to have to stick to affordable. I'm really enjoying my Dixon Tuneable Soprano D (first whistle), so I'm excited that it looks like a good idea to stick with Dixon for a Tuneable Low D 😊
I honestly don't know 🤣 Carbony as it's easy to play. Probably the Lír but I've not had it for very long, I can see the Karavaev going the same way, but always the MKpro if I want to impress 🤣
I am one of a kind... Why do you think that whistles with my name in them cant be tuned. But, are you saying that you are selling some of your whistles?

brilliant - great way to compare whistles
Very happy with my Ruru from Tahake!
You played them all well but I think that the tunable Dixon had the sweetest tone.

Thank you 💚🙏
The video I've been waiting for
Thank you for the video I hope it helps people choose the right whistle. I hope you, your family and friends all have a good holiday 🥃 Sláinte
Incredibly beautiful music and very interesting video.
Thank you CutiePie

My thoughts...Stephanie can make any instrument sound good. It's not the whistle, it's the whistler !! 🙂

Lovely demo! Merry Christmas and a happy, blissful year 2023, with lots of enchanted music and people!

Thank you for another informative video
Thanks!
Wow, thank you so much for your support ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I hope that means the video was helpful for you. 🥰 xxx
Thank you, it was helpful.
The best sounding to my untrained ear is the James Dominic Whistle. It's not as breathy sounding, which I prefer.
Dixon tunable Low D or Chieftain V5 Low D? Which one would you pick?
For those prices they all sound pretty good. But I think the Tahake sounds the best.
Very cool
Very good video. I know which I prefer, but am curious, what is your "go to" low D whistle? Merry Christmas

Nice tune.
Hey, you once posed a link to an overview of Whistlemakers and available keys. I don't find it anymore. Could you post it again please?
Hi, I'm sorry I don't know what link that would have been 🙁
I like that a seasoned musician can make a poor instrument sound good.

Hi Stephanie I noticed this a while ago but I forgot to comment. Is this the first video where you didn't blow a kiss at the end?

Just checked out becker whistles and turns out he has officially closed shop and is now in retirement…
Yes, it's unfortunate... Prompted by a surge in sales after my review I think 🤦♀️
Luckily we still have a few other affordable options 💚💚💚
You need more air
You are a very pretty girl
