    I’ve done the City of New Orleans as well, and man…19 hours on the train is not long enough. I love it, and love train travel to the max. Everybody is anticipating the extension of the Sunset Ltd to Mobil and eventually back to Jacksonville the way it used to be before Hurricane Rita.

    Glad you have the experience. Next time, try the Viewliner II bedroom sleeper cars and they are brand new, they are better than the Superliner cars. These can be found in east coast so give them a try and you will be pleased. Glad you enjoyed your trip. Amtrak is suppose to restore full traditional dining on entire network sometime in 2023. The reason train was bouncing because the land is not that strong due to water/swamp all over and thats the common in the south. Once you pass Jackson, MS, everything is smooth.

    I've done some Amtrak (I'm Australian).
    1: From San Fran to Denver (30 hours) in coach, which was made ever-so-fantastic by the people I met in the viewing car and the Parks staff who come onboard to describe the area we travel through. TOP train trip I've ever done, because of the company I met.
    2: From New York to Atlanta in coach. Nice trip but nothing outstanding. Was expecting lovely scenery but it wasn't anything special
    3: West Coast Seattle to Los Angeles. "Business", which has really nice seats and little features like reserved seating and no hassles at check-in. And again, the scenery was spectacular, both through the forested areas to the north, and the ocean nearing LA.
    4: Washington to Orlando. Roomette. Not worth the cost; claustrophobic, room attendant that didn't want to be there... My neighbouring room-mate was the only part of the journey that made it fun. Again, scenery was restricted and often seemed like a dumped-car yard when near civilisation.
    Now looking at doing this trip, most probably coach. One thing that I WOULD suggest is to eat in the dining car if it's on that route. Proper meals on crockery with table-cloth and flowers, and the opportunity to meet travellers from all over the world. Dining car dinners cost dollars, but they are damned worth it.

    Before hurricane Katrina, the Sunset Limited was a through train from Los Angeles all the way to Florida.
    After the storm and the tracks were repaired. Amtrak never pursued, restoring the line east of New Orleans. So now the train is just terminated at New Orleans. It’s sad but understandable. The sunset limited was really, and still is one of the most delayed trains in the system.
    Stinks there’s no longer east directly. Got to make a connection.

    Matt I enjoyed your video riding Amtrak's City of New Orleans . I live in Vicksburg Mississippi now and was hoping to take that trip one day I would leave from Jackson Mississippi to Chicago . Do you think the cars and rooms are Walker or wheelchair friendly? Thanks Johnette

    • @mattsmoments2
      @mattsmoments2 Рік тому +1

      That’s a really good question. The hallways are fairly narrow so I’d have to say a walker would be more likely than a wheelchair. I believe most rooms are second level but I’m sure Amtrak has a way of helping assist. Check the website because I know for sure details would be there. And if not give them a call. I hope you’re able to embark on this journey and enjoy it.
