Hit a pot hole in my e91 and it stuck the shock through the top mount hole 😂😂😂. New top caps at £3 each and I’m good to go again thank god. Only did 4 new shocks last year

Great video George well explained, it’s all about quickest factory process never any thought of how to repair a car when things go, that bill is for the owner, can’t imagine the labour costs just to get to the bolt, that’s why you’re videos are so good helping viewers to do it for themselves and save a lot of money 👍

In the e9x there is a hole under a rubber piece for easy access to the top mounts, at the exact spot where he cut the holes. So BMW actually did something to make it easier in the next gen👍

Hello, I’m having abit of trouble now and again with my 2005 120d sport m47 engine, the car drove normal to my supermarket when I come back out the car took 4 tries to start and then it wouldn’t engage any gear atall like there was something blocking it, I then managed to get it into gear and it was stiff to change all the way home I then turned the engine off and on and it was like it never happened all normal this has happened twice now, what would you recommend looking at ? The clutch is really strong and the clutch fluid is full.

The reason it was rattling so badly when you had it jacked up is that the shock absorber should be preventing the suspension from moving too far down. Usually with a failed shock absorber you won't be able to move the wheel up and down at all! As it was, had you hit a bump or got some 'air', the spring may well have fallen out and caused major damage! Not sure how any of that would result in a lower ride height that side though.

What an Epic Journey. Lucky you have the skill's to do it yourself. The Garage labour costs would, very likely be more that the cost of the parts ?. Well done. See you in the next one. 👍👍

Ya it’s like BMW doesn’t want you to easily access a simple shock/struts

Crikey... lucky the E61 (touring) doesn't have this access problem to those top nut, much easier. The E46 should handle those tip loads a bit better now.

Oh boy, after all those trims and pieces removed how much trouble would it be to remove those cardboards as well...bad design or not I would never done that nasty cut. On e39 sedan is similar but imagine you have to disassemble all rear inside the cabin from back seats to parshelf without damage anything and not leave a single stain. In that case what would you do cause the nuts for the shock absorbers are under the rear speakers. I know is not an e39 and is your construction truck now still...Other than that good job yet pretty straight forward. I can only imagine what abuse took that poor e46 and I suspect it was way overloaded when that strut snapped. Correct me if I'm wrong but if this is the case it only shows how well were made bmws 20y back.

Wasn’t worth the extra hassle, would have needed to remove all the wiring harness etc and ended up breaking a load of extra clips

I've just done the rears on my e91 touring....worse part was taking the interior panels out...broken clips flying everywhere!!! Horrible job.

The seatbelt reel covers are a nightmare!! Even using trim tools and a lot of patience half the clips still broke! They are like sacrificial clips....Very frustrating!

Supporting the vehicle only with a jack is unsafe when you are working under the car or wheel arch.

Springtime is always a good time to change shocks! 🫣 I see you wear Mannol tee shirt. Have you any experience on using their 9955 cetane plus diesel additive? Enjoy content… thanks for that. ✌️👍🇬🇧
