Regardless of the moral implications of Superman hurling a defenseless man into low-earth orbit, the quality of the animation in this spot is outstanding.
"With my X-Ray vision, I can see the harm cigarettes do inside people's bodies. I'm pretty much immortal though, so that's really not a good reason for me to turn them down. I'm just going to take these over there and... dispose of them. Yeah. Say any of you kids got a- oh right, I have heat vision!"
You know, as stupid as this is, it actually has some pretty fluid animation. I'm kind of surprised. Most animated PSA's that I've seen have really clunky animation.
Especially given the era. The 1980s were not exactly renowned for the fluidity and high budgets of animation in any form, be it theatrical, serialized, or commercial. The era was actually known as the Dark Age of Animation. So this commercial is quite unusual. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UsefulNotes/TheDarkAgeOfAnimation

Kid: "Where did he go? Where did he freakin' go?"
Superman: *"Orbit. He went into orbit at Mach 7." Slam.*
+Daniel Rhodes (Celtic Unicorn) *If you had super hearing, any second you'd hear the...pop.*

Hahaha
So... why is the animation great, the bad guy dead, and Superman strangely Russian?
Fun fact:
In another "Don't Smoke" PSA Comic, it's Canon that Superman threw Nick O' Teen into Space.
THEY MADE A PSA CANON IN THE NICK O' TEEN LORE
Injustice 3 looks great
"He went into orbit, at Mach 7. If you had super hearing, any second you'd hear the... 'pop'." -- Superman, in Superman vs. The Elite.
The famous “South London” area of Metropolis where Superman’s accent got a little lost
Lex Luthor tries to destroy the world? Superman sends him to prison. You give cigarettes to kids? Superman THROWS YOU INTO ORBIT.
Nick O' Teen got his shit tossed.
What is up with the super good quality animation for this?
it was a government ad so it probably had some money behind it
I was just thinking that. The animation is freaking awesome for a commercial and an old ass cartoon.
Yeah, it's almost as detailed as the Ruby Spears Superman cartoon's animation.
He just killed that dude, all he wanted to do was share his smokes
What if Superman's X-Ray vision causes cancer? :O
Naaah. Dr. Manhattan presence does XD.
Damn, the animation is good for this one.
MMMStudios1000 Especially for 1980, when no TV cartoons were anywhere near that well animated
I wish I would have listened to superman...

Stupid-awesome.
I was also impressed with the animation quality.

Superman: I don’t kill
Some random guy: Hey kids, want a cigarette?
Superman: YOU HAVE CHOSEN DEATH.
Superman showed Nick O Teen the true meaning of the phrase "Up, up, and away"!
Now, this is some freakin' good commercial!
Otakuman!
Straight up killed a dude for giving away cigarettes. Is that a step forward? Or back...?
Superman: Try to light a cigarette in space, bitch!
Is it just me, or is the animation surprisingly good here?
I'm sure those kids grew up fast after watching Superman commit murder.
Comrade Superman
I've never seen this before. Interesting.
I think this is what a bad American accent sounds like.
Superman's voice seems a bit odd.
Good program
Flawless animation!
How is the animation so smooth
i wonder if this event was erased in any DC´s reboot
Why didn't he snap his neck?
don’t worry the speed he threw him at probably did that for him and if not the fall would among snapping other things
Pffsst and conplain about man of steel..
so what happened to ol nick?
He eventually fell to his death
ResurrectedHero Assuming he fell at all
its nickolodeon
kills someone who incites to smoke
CHCECIE FAJECZKĘ?
