Honestly, as someone who loved Batman Beyond, Teen Titans, Young Justice, etc., I really like "passing the torch" stories. So MKX was a fun time, watching the next generation square up with old and new threats and seeing how the old cast was doing (...mostly). I feel like there aren't enough stories about heroes post-victory in pop culture, so that was interesting to see.
Yeah, too bad the development of the Kombat Kids lack proper build-up in MKX. I was one of the few who were actually hooked with the idea of the new gen fighter, and was glad that NRS actually attempted to break the status quo and move the series in a new direction. That may not be anytime soon. When was finishing this one, Clement stated on Twitter/X how he didn’t want to touch another lore video for a very long while. Understandable, considering how long this particular one took him.
I don't know if he would considering that there are already plenty of videos on KH lore and it not being a fighting game. Plus, I don't know if Clement is into KH
KH is a series where by the second PS2 entry people were angrily fuming over the mere statement that the guy they fought in the first game was, at the time, someone who merely stole a man's name and booted 'em to the Shadow Realm. Also KH isn't a fighting game--
Was wondering “Clement hasn’t uploaded in a while, hope he’s okay.” Then I get this in my notifications, quality over quantity. Gonna really enjoy this video.
I love the absurdity of the Mortal Kombat lore and the fact they committed to all of it so for MK10 & 11 we actually got comics explaining some details: - yes, Quan Chi can make up entirely new bodies for Revenants which he did for Kuai Liang. As we have seen for Noob & Scorpion - AZTEC! c'mon is in the name. & yes it's canon that Kotal actually visited Earthrealm during the Mesoamerican era & trained the Aztecs into their culture so... the thing is that Raiden's MK11 plan is actually a lore tidbit they kinda dropped after the original MK: To participate in Shang Tsung's tournament he took over the body of a random Farmer; so yeah Raiden has been able to transfer his Godly essence to mortals this entire time
Great vid! MKX is my favorite entry too - I've got a lot of affection for the new characters, and the super-fast gameplay is the most enjoyable to watch.
In regards to how Sub-Zero turns back into a human at the start of MKX, it's revealed in the tie-in comic series. Which is weird, but whatever. Quan Chi decided one day that Subby would be more useful to him as a human, so he used his magic to blow up Cyber Sub-Zero and then reconstruct him into a humanoid body. And Kuai was fully conscious throughout the entire process, so that had to hurt like hell.
I thought he revealed that his soul was actually left intact during the cyberization process. So when he died, Quan Chi used that to create the Revenant.
I mean, I always thought the revenants were clone bodies since Johnny's revenant was being constructed independent of his actual body. So when a person died, only the soul would become the revenant and Quan would construct a new body
It is less resetting the timeline, and more putting on a separate file. Since the some of the dupe/clone interactions make previous events still cannon. Alongside *spoilers* pulling a Doctor Who Armageddon in the ending.

I feel like MKX is criminally underrated in terms of it’s story bc ironically enough, everything but the actual story mode is a masterclass of “passing the torch” and evolving the world of the characters in a good way. I’d say it’s on par with Tekken 3 in terms of setting a new status quo that’s new but not alien to the series and I will forever hate how NRS immediately abandoned all of it bc of fan outcry over the story mode.

Then quan chi tricks him into think kuai was somehow responsible
This took me several days to watch and finish whenever I have the time to watch. :) Been playing Mortal Kombat since MK2 when I was like 4 years old (yeah, that young!) and my favorite is MK9.
Few things to note/add - All MK tower endings are Kannon. The timelines would just reset if not played out the way it needed too. This means that any "Jobbers" are there because in some timeline they were not jobbers and actually won. - DC vs MK is also Kannon, during Radians flashback of him and Lou fighting shows DC vs MK. Of course this was not the way things needed to go so timeline was reset. - The recent MK animated movies are also Kannon (see end of snowblind) - Anything that didnt make sense during one game to the next can really be chocked up to timeline was reset and things are slightly different. This means MK-MK9 although tells one story may not all be the same timeline but "close enough" (same can be told about the Comics though have not dived into those much) overall great video and yes very messy/insane lore
I really appreciate having footage from a match recreating what's going on in the lore. It's nice to look at and helps a lot to be visually engaging.

hey clement, very long time fan of your content! i've been loving "the insane lore" series, and i gotta say--MK definitely takes the cake for having the most INSANE lore in any fighting game. thanks for all the effort you put in for researching and editing these videos. they're always a treat to watch!
Literally perfect timing. Just finished aftermath today & I wanted to review the timeline before hopping into MK1. Must be the will of the Elder Gods!!!
I will honestly never forgive them for not letting us use undead Liu Kang's chains, or not giving him a bigger story presence
Glad you’re making more videos like this. I showed both the Tekken and Street Fighter lore videos to my dad, and he loved them, so I’ll definitely be showing him this one.
Iori isn't actually an edgelord, he only looks like one, he actually is very kind hearted, love kitties and playing guitar lol
I thought that was before he became infatuated with killing Kyo because of his blood.
as long as Kyo isn't in his peripheral vision
@@ness77777to be fair the only good person that makes him feel that way is kyo. Any other people he feels inclined to kill are genuine assholes/villains
No, he's very much a edgelord
So this means were getting an insane lore of king of fighters next
Holy crap, this video was long, but worth it man, thanks so much for all of your time and research! 🍻🔥🤘🏼
Have been anticipating this video for months!! Nice job Clement
I first saw your "Insane Lore of Tekken" video and was thinking, man this dude explains video game lore really awesome! Love the fighting game lore you're doing! Any possible chance of doing any other games/genres in the future? Keep up the awesome work, man!!!
Yoooo! I'm so excited for this. I don't have the time right this second unfortunately, but I cannot wait to come back later to hear your take and general expansive knowledge for this series, Clement! I love MK so much. 😁
Outstanding work! You have succeeded in making the terribly convoluted lore of MK comprehensible. Something so many have tried but failed. Incorporating all games including spin offs, comics, movies, tv-series, timelines, backstories into one coherent whole must have been a very hard and timeconsuming effort. Thank you very much!
I used to watch you back when you were doing the Sonic 2, let's play, and then do the extra episodes with fun facts. I was like 8 years old, so I'm glad you are still going on strong, long live the Eggman
Love the lengthy lore videos and that you've pretty much become the full-series fighting game lore channel.
One nitpick tho, I'm surprised the MKX comic wasn't mentioned
This video was VERY worth the wait. Great job Clement!
Your six hour tearing apart of sonic 06 is still the most entertaining review of all time
GET OVER HERE
okay!
HYPE!!
I see a Great Clement video, I do just that.
"Make me" said sub zero.
FINISH HIM!!!
What a rollercoaster ride this is. This is entertaining regardless of how convoluted the storyline is
It's my sleepover and I choose the movie
This video deserves way more views. This is a quality video for people who aren't familiar with MK lore or need a refresher for veteran fans like me.
Been watching your vids for years. Today was the first time a friend mentioned you and I was shocked. I’m ready for prime time clement
Megaman lets plays were fire💯
11:17 I can already tell that Kabal was so confident about that, until Shang Tsung told him otherwise. Man he was scared shitless
This is exactly what i needed, a 3h recap of lore i already know most of. This is gonna be peak.
I did not want this video to end. Thank you, this is one of the most enjoyable videos I have watched on UA-cam.
Nice to see ya upload again, brother. Much love.❤
Love your channel man. I gt say just having a clerks reference at all earned a sub
I really enjoy this channel's lore vids. Binged 2 others yesterday.
Definitely eared a subscriber here 👍🏾
Deception Konquest mode is peak and will forever be peak Mortal Kombat, everything about it was amazing, and they literally did everything they could with what they had when they made it
Great video. This is a MUST for anyone new who's kurious about the world of Mortal Kombat and wants to pick up a kontroller and fatality an opponent to save Earthrealm! It will katch you up on ALL the lore of MK and katch you up to date for Mortal Kombat 1.. so enjoy!! 🐉
Please do a "The Insane Lore of Yakuza". The Yakuza games get insane at points and it's an amazing game series.
Bro this is literally perfect timing, I just got done binging all of your other lore and humble beginnings videos lol
This is one of the best videos on UA-cam. 3 hours and entertaining from start to end. I've watched it 3 times already XD
“He must win” is the sort of plot device that needs to be studied, even if I ultimately do prefer the first reboot timeline
You pick fun at the "tea party" but that is a very old Japanese custom to discuss over tea. It's very ceremonious. It allows all parties to take a delicacy and be calm. Be there in both spirit and mind. To meet each other at their differences and to discuss matters in a matures sense.
I discovered your channel because of the Tekken video. I loved Tekken Lore so i wanted to see someone cover it. But I loved your energy and style so between SF and MK now, im looking forward to the videos first because of you, and second because of the game in question.
Thank you for taking the time to create this video, I made sure to watch the whole thing before I commented here. 😁🤘 I love your narration and your jokes, so I subscribed. I am making a Mortal Kombat D&D, and I was looking at lots of videos for research, so I really appreciate this video. I want to be lore accurate, but I also want to add my own twist.
It’s a great day when the great Clement uploads!
Had your video pop up on my feed after looking up help on beating Shao Kahn in MK9 and immediately watched the thing. What a sick deep dive on the series, thank you for this, and I'm excited to watch the other ones you've already dropped on other series.
I'm so glad there's someone who understands my pain when it comes to the timeline shenanigans in Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 1. They continually break so many of their own rules and play so loose with the concept that it drives me insane.
My emotions in mk1: 📈📈📈📉📉📉☠️
Yea theve also confirmed that in mka taven did canonicaly win but kronika restarted the timeline and then mk vs dcu happened and after that kronika restarted again and then mk9 happened witch also explains why we don't see Taven and Dagon at the pyramid it's assumed they either died on their quest or they where never woken up
Not really, you just cant comprehend basic shit
i loved deadly alliance and all of the story when i was a kid. had me
instantly hooked. there is TONS of lore in these games.
Congrats on making a video on the Big 3 of Fighting Games. Hope to see you give the others more love in the future (Bloody Roar, Marvel vs Capcom, Skullgirls, Dead or Alive, Under Night, etc.)
Don't forget Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter
Marvel vs Capcom doesn't have too much lore going for it. Focus on the big names before going into crossovers.
Clement tackling Skullgirls or Bloody Roar would be sick!
it's nice to hear someone be excited to talk abt mk11 for once
Finally!!!!!! I waited a long time for this. PLEASE DO SOUL CALIBUR NEXT!!!!
Yes plz
"Spawn a massive soul-sucking tornado. A soul-nado if you will."
Nope. That's no Soulnado. That's a Tornado of Souls, and I'm stuck in the eye of the tornado. Blow me away!
Netherrealm studios never should have joined the micro transactions trend.
Most flaws with neatherrealm stem from Warner Brothers greed.
You say that like *any* company should have.
@@Selzor Nah, NetherRealm has had many of these issues since the Midway days. WB just enabled them to go full-ham.
It's so dumb if you need to make dlc make all the 20+ characters that have not been there for years such an easy solution
@@HawkatanaFortnite
Man clement you really blew up with these, been a fgc player for a while but a sub for your channel since like waaay back. good shit.
Once again, nice video. Always cool to see these and how much effort goes into them.
Regarding first timeline sub zero and kuai liang, i got the impression that scorpion at first didn't consider kuai to be the killer of him or his family, that was bi-han and the rest of the lin kuei and scorpion already avenged them. Then quan chi tricks him into think kuai was somehow responsible
This took me several days to watch and finish whenever I have the time to watch. :)
Been playing Mortal Kombat since MK2 when I was like 4 years old (yeah, that young!) and my favorite is MK9.
Oh boy, can't wait for my lunch to last 3 hours now
Few things to note/add
- All MK tower endings are Kannon.
- The recent MK animated movies are also Kannon (see end of snowblind)
- Anything that didnt make sense during one game to the next can really be chocked up to timeline was reset and things are slightly different. This means MK-MK9 although tells one story may not all be the same timeline but "close enough" (same can be told about the Comics though have not dived into those much)
overall great video and yes very messy/insane lore
CLEMENT BEING THE LORE GUY IS AMAZING🔥🔥
I literally watch your Tekken and Street fighter videos at work on my breaks and now I've got another keep these coming
Seeing a video lore of King of Fighters and perhaps Marvel vs. Capcom would be a great adding to the great clements collection 😅
If the Thorgi's Arcade videos are any indication, a complete video on KoF would be, like, 16 hours long.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS ! I PLAYED MORTAL KOMBAT FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER LAST WEEK, THIS IS SUCH AN AWESOME COINCIDENCE
You should have a million subscribers this is phenomenal
First time here and it was great. Keep them long I like it like that
To understand how Sub-Zero became human again you gotta read the comics. From what they say he actually ripped it off himself
This is so thorough; it's incredible. Thank you for making sense of all this!
