schlitterbahn held a patent on the idea, several other parks have paid for the rights to use the system. Atlantis in the Bahamas and a park in Dubai are among the most notable. Cedar fair may use it now at some of their other parks. The Henry family shut down all construction projects after the accident and was having a hard time getting loans and industry support.
My children and I went couple days before Spring Break ,it was AWESOME just beautiful and the bar where you can swim over and order your drink. Right outside of the water park the beautiful island. Just the smell of the air in South Parade was so fresh. We really enjoyed our stay.
This park is so nostalgic for me, I remember my family and I would go there all the time. Sadly we haven’t gone there in years and I really do miss it :(
I really do recommend to buy some water shoes, either the ones they sell at the park or from another store. Last year we went towards the end of July and omg, I only had flip flops, so to get to where we had our things or to the restroom I had to walk fast cause the ground would be burning hot. This year I'm taking water shoes cause I don't want my feet to burn and be red for days ☹
I live near their so I go about 2 or 3 times every summer and it’s a good park everything is functioning and the staff there is super nice and you never get tired of going I highly recommend a visit it’s worth it
I've been to South Padre Island for a day in 2010, but it was over spring break so I am sad to say the waterpark was closed when we were there. However, that was also before the indoor waterpark was built, so maybe now would be the time to go there.
Yo I know it’s been a couple months but I would love to give some feedback on how schlitterbahn is now. I’ve been going to schitterbahn in the summer almost annually (missed one year) for the past 6 years. Every year it seems the park gets better and better with the addition of new rides and the indoor park. But this year was different. Schitterbahn was recently purchased by a new company and changed there name to “Beach Park” yah okay so go from the radical name schitterbahn to fricken “Beach Park” okay. So the name was just the start. They decided( probably for financial reasons) to close the indoor park. Personally that was my favorite part and to see it go is very disappointing. Than the day I went almost EVERY rode was shut down. Even more( this happened on multiple occasions that day ) one ride kept on breaking down. I had to get up in the middle of the ride and walk to end. Schitterbahn was and always will be an amazing part of my childhood but now those memories are all I have of a wonderful water park.
This is actually slightly wrong. A combination of factors including massive lawsuit settlements around the Verruckt disaster in Kansas and company mismanagement forced the Henry family to sell off most of their parks, as well as the Schlitterbahn branding. Beach Park is actually now the only remaining park owned by the original Schlitterbahn owners. Aside from that, I went today and the park is in ROUGH shape. Many of the rides were closed down and the rapids section of the river was blocked off because they don’t schedule enough life guards during the weekdays anymore (according to a life guard there). Most of the restaurants were abandoned and the area that formerly housed the indoor section is now totally empty and looks like an unrelated metal frame left to rot. Many of the wooden buildings are falling apart and the bridge to the ocean has holes in it. Overall, it’s very sad.
@@SantoHanno My family used to go to South Padre every summer as our family trip. I went to Schlitterbahn during its opening week in 2001 and every summer thereafter for over a decade. My most recent visit was very depressing unfortunately. Things were exactly as you described. half of the water coasters were not operating, nor was the rapids. The facilities were in a very sad state overall. Paint is peeling everywhere, the bridges look and feel unsafe to walk on, the new clear tubes are uncomfortable and boring to look at. the whole place just feels run down and unappealing compared to the colorful wonderland I remembered it as. Sad to see what has become of a park that provided so many great childhood memories.
Did you see that Schlitterbahn was just sold? The deal in Kansas was very bad for the founding family, but hopefully the fun continues with the new ownership.
We just went as weekend and it was honestly a disaster. The only positive thing I can say about it is the lazy river design is pretty good, nice and wide/no bottlenecks, and the rapids were kind of cool. Besides that, awful experience. We ended up leaving early and getting a full refund.

I loved this park when I visited. The idea that you never get out of the water even when queuing for slides is genius.

Haven’t been there since I was a kid and now that I have kids I look forward to taking them... of course after this pandemic.

The Torrent River was one of my favorite water rides at Schliterbahn SPI
You forgot about the zip line
The lazy river is so strong and is dangerous for kind and even for grownups

I never knew you could go to the indoor section if you weren't staying at the hotel. Always thought you weren't allowed in there
Nope, just walk right in!
At 4:30 I was gonna go there, my sister said agua blanca sucks.

This particular park is not being sold to Cedar Fair. The Henry family will maintain ownership and operations of this park (and none of the others).
@@CoasterRanger Just saw that. Also saw that the South Padre park will be rebranded soon.
