I'm a guitarist (a crap one I might add) and have followed the likes of Steve Howe, Alex Lifeson, Trevor Rabin et.al. But if there is anyone I would like to emulate for tone and melody and feeling it's the one and only Mr Rothery. Gloriously brilliant !!
Because he is by all accounts quite shy and self deprecating, so does not go out looking for interview opportunities. I know this as he was the cover star for an issue of Guitarist in the early 90s, where this point was strongly made.
No Steve, no Marillion. One of the most underrated rock guitarists ever. In the same league as Tony Iommi and Mark Knopfler. I could listen all day, every day.
Many of the comments below echo my own feelings. There are a number of guitarists out there who are wonderful musicians - they can inspire, excite and amaze. The difference with Mr. Rothery is quite a straightforward one: he can bring a tear to my eye ...
I went to see Steve Rothery in Chile just last week. He is a wonderful guitar player who takes music to another level. Sit back close your eyes and enjoy.
God this man's playing is genuine, emotional, beautiful etc etc etc Can't wait for our gift from China to be over Don't care where I got to go, first thing I want to do is see Marillion and Mr Rothery or his band because they sound so frickin good
Awesome guitar playing on the prog-melodic style of the 70's, just what I have always loved and, presently, try to play on my modest guitar work. But, unfortunately, this wonderful and highly emotional style, this kind of feeling, is disappearing among new players, who privilege playing too, too fast, as fast as possible, in detriment to music.
You hit the nail on the head, I so agree, you can feel every note, each one has purpose, meaning and reason for being... and that tone just drives the music straight to your soul.
Hey!! Awesome : 1/ the bass player is using a…zoom b3!!😮😮 😀👍🏻 2/ Steve is playing a PRS (same color than mine) So I don’t have any excuse to try to record such kind of music on my DAW… …oh wait…I still miss talent! 😄😄 (Edit : that’s not a PRS one! 🫠)
Hey Kate. If you like this then try Bill Nelson (Be Bop Deluxe). Two of the best things to come out of Yorkshire. But with a name like Murphy, Gary Moore?
It is really slow to start, even though I quite like it... I love that S.R. plays with such finesse... Yet, the track doesn't seem really structured... very loose and a bit repetitive. I don't get it about the keyboard. Why is there a keyboard rig, then ? Weird, really.... And we'd expect rather a studio album, instead of a live album.
Sascha Haber The new Steve is right. Marillion should have changed their band name when he joined. The old Fish Marillion would have done fine in back catalogue, and the new band with the two Steves is really quite good and should do fairly well too - without the albatross. I'm sure they could have come up with some Proggy name...hey, how about "Albatross". Fish might not find it funny, but I would. It's even nautically related.
But to you extremists out there: sursly you exaggerate! Or havent you ever heard of Carlos Santana, Gary Moore, Steve Hackett, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Al di Meola, Jimmy Page, and of course Jimi Hendrix??!
This deserves a billion likes.
Kate Murphy Kate the 3 Steves Rothery Hillage and Hackett
Diane What about Mr. Howe and Mr. Tibbetts?
Steve Rothery is a bloody genius!!!!!
Me too. Steve Rothery for tone and feeling. Steve Howe for just pure brilliance around the fretboard.
@@pataleno Add Andy Latimer and Steve Hackett and you've got 4 of the very best.
One of the most (injustly) underrated guitar players by the rock media, Steve Rothery indeed rules!
My vote for most underrated guitarist absolutely goes to Steve with Nils Lofgren in second.
Why has this guy not been on the cover of guitar player magazine? He is right up there with the best of them!
parce qu il n est pas un guitariste "rapide" ....
Surely to god he has!!!!! WTAF
Because he is by all accounts quite shy and self deprecating, so does not go out looking for interview opportunities. I know this as he was the cover star for an issue of Guitarist in the early 90s, where this point was strongly made.
How on earth could someone not like this beautiful music?!?.........
No Steve, no Marillion. One of the most underrated rock guitarists ever. In the same league as Tony Iommi and Mark Knopfler. I could listen all day, every day.
Thank you for making such beautiful music!!!!!!!
Steve is one of the best guitarist i ever heard. To me his playing style is close to the onlyone Andy Latimer.
Andy Lattimer, now thats a name that doesn't crop up that often, but a bloody fantastic guitarist who had so much emotion in his work.
I believe Andy Latimer is a favourite of Steve's.
nick win what about Steve Howe AND Steve Tibbetts???.
@@katemurphy1915 and Steve Hackett ?
nick win I recommend Mr. Steve Tibbetts. Another brilliant guitarist!!!
This is so beautiful.
Één van de meest onderschatte gitaristen die er is. Heeft zoveel mooie solo's op zijn naam staan. Staat in mijn top vijf.
Many of the comments below echo my own feelings. There are a number of guitarists out there who are wonderful musicians - they can inspire, excite and amaze. The difference with Mr. Rothery is quite a straightforward one: he can bring a tear to my eye ...
great steve rothery,master of feeling
so rigth!!
The best description I ever heard of Steve Rothery's playing style...If David Gilmour was in Genesis. So true. Incredible player.
Thank you Mr. Rothery and thanks also to your pals for the beautiful music!!!.
wow... this is what we call groove.
Brilliantly written, and emotionally played with great skill. Nicely done...
Seen last night at the DRU cultuurfabriek - Netherlands, superb concert
Just bought 'The Gohsts of Pripyat', such an amazing album, that fits my style like a glove. Thank you mr Rothery!!
Steve Rothery Sublime.
Freaking awesome mate, progresive at its best.
One of the players in the worlld guitar speaks for him brilliant GH
This popped up on my Deezer flow list for some reason, iv never heard of him, so glad it did, he's superb, up there with Steven wilson
I went to see Steve Rothery in Chile just last week. He is a wonderful guitar player who takes music to another level. Sit back close your eyes and enjoy.
Damn this sounds nice. Loved every minute of The Ghosts of Pripyat, but this is probably my favorite track.
Uutterly brilliant

What a player, one of the best! and comes across as such a nice guy
super!!!!
Indo agora ver o grande Steve Rothery in Rio 😎
Dude is a master.
this album is fantastic ! as a guitarist, loving gilmour style, I just regret he doesn't work anymore in solo
Can't wait to see Steve again.... but there's no way I'd be able to do so sitting down like this audience seems to be...
Guitarrista extremamente virtuoso
C'est vraiment extra !
What a very nice sound & playing.:-D
Awesome!!!!
AHHH Steve : le meilleur !
Steven Wilson contributes with guitar on the studio version; the style of this song reminds me of his solo work as well.
Muito bom som...
The son of David Gilmour ... same emotional playing, same sensations 😍❤
God this man's playing is genuine, emotional, beautiful etc etc etc Can't wait for our gift from China to be over Don't care where I got to go, first thing I want to do is see Marillion and Mr Rothery or his band because they sound so frickin good
Un viaje astral !
Exelente interpretacion , el estilo similar al de Andrew Latimer de Camel, , para escucharlo una y otra vez.¡
+bernardo jaramillo coincido totalmente.
UNICO
Hon Earth could twelve people dislike this????. Now there are sixteen dislikers. What’s wrong with these people?
One of the most underrated guitar players as is the Marillion
Wow

Mmmm........ nice
La force tranquille!!!!
I'm so pleased Steve has lost weight. His health must be so much better.
Playing the guitar like this isn’t hard. Getting the tone, vibrato, feeling and damn emotional of Rothery is absolutely impossible.
You hit the nail on the head, I so agree, you can feel every note, each one has purpose, meaning and reason for being... and that tone just drives the music straight to your soul.
Quite right, he reminds me of Gilmore, every note and bend has a purpose
@@rawknrolloutlawit’s a fine art. Many can shred. Not many can play like this man.
Hey!! Awesome :

So I don’t have any excuse to try to record such kind of music on my DAW…
…oh wait…I still miss talent! 😄😄
(Edit : that’s not a PRS one! 🫠)
The studio version of the old man of the sea has been removed from Apple music. Why?
Hey Kate. If you like this then try Bill Nelson (Be Bop Deluxe). Two of the best things to come out of Yorkshire. But with a name like Murphy, Gary Moore?
Keith Dale thank you
😮😮😮😮❤❤👍👍
Bass player was triggering the keys pad sounds with his feet?
Yes you are right Harro333, well spotted!
1:40 In this song, Rothery seems to be influenced by Mark Knopfler with Dire Straits song "Brothers in Arms".
Oh my days I REALLY thought this was anathema when it came on!!!!
Steve Rothery is brilliant, but Dave Foster's pretty damn good too. Now a member of Big Big Train, which is an amazing addition.
Anyone else think he's Dave Gilmour part 2
Imo better than new marillion!
Absolutely.. !! And with Martin singing almost as good as the old one ;)
Sascha Haber The new Steve is right. Marillion should have changed their band name when he joined. »Marillion should have changed their band name when he joined.« Why should they? Do you change your name when you change your girlfriend?!
Appena appena ispirato a Steve Hackett... ma appena un po'... cmq molto bravo
il nettare degli Dei. Steve la chitarra non suona ma parla.
But to you extremists out there: sursly you exaggerate! Or havent you ever heard of Carlos Santana, Gary Moore, Steve Hackett, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Al di Meola, Jimmy Page, and of course Jimi Hendrix??!
Sbatti onda quanto vuoi ma io il pescecane lo porto a terra
...and I thought he'd forgotten how to play...
technically weak and expressionless. This is how children play at the band's first rehearsal in their lives
