- WHAT IF MEG BECAME MOTHER GOTHEL?
In this alternate universe when Hercules fell in love with Meg and decided to give up his place amongst the Gods to live as a mortal with her, the pair got married and were both very hopeful about their future. They explored the world and experienced new things together, but it didn’t take long before Hercules began to show the negative signs that Meg’s mother had warned her about before she married him.
A God will always be a God. Although Hercules had initial turned mortal as an ultimate act of love for Meg, he craved the love and worship that Greek Gods were graced with. Over the years his desire to feel God-like grew whilst his love for Meg diminished. He sought out compliments and admiration from other women who adored him and he chased fights with monstrous creatures so that people would worship him like a God. Hercules lost sight of what he stayed mortal for…but Meg stayed and supported him.
After travelling far and wide to prove himself, Hercules eventually meets his end in Germany. Meg had to bury her husband and although he was an unfaithful man who was practically a stranger to her in the end, she grieved his death immensely. After all, people do crazy things when they’re in love. Every year Meg returned to the grounds where she buried him and lived the rest of her life feeling insecure because of his actions.
After many years had gone by, on one of her annual visits, Meg found a magical flower that had grown from the soil in which she had buried her late husband. It’s glow reminded her of the radiant sunlight that would beam off of Hercules and in a twisted way she took the sight of this beautiful Sundrop Flower as a final gift from him. She was infatuated by the youthful beauty it gave her and in her mind it was a reminder that Hercules wanted her to stay young and beautiful forever despite what he did whilst he was alive. Meg’s beauty was one of things Hercules loved most about her, she would do anything to keep her special gift and the last living piece of Hercules alive, even if it meant kidnapping and imprisoning a young princess whilst under the alias of Mother Gothel. In this alternate universe this is Mother Gothel's Villain origin and the reason why the Sundrop Flower is so important to her in Tangled.
This is the first song in my Alternate Universe (& Villain Origin!!) Series where I will be exploring different possibilities in animation and live action movies & shows to tell these alternate stories through song! 🪐✨

The most heartbreaking part is that according to the most accurate of Greek mythology Hades was probably the most loyal God of the bunch! Especially of his brothers 😭😭😭 That "Worse than Hades" took my breath away 😭😭😭
Hades is a man of fairness. If we use the accurate myth of Heracles then Meg would’ve have died and be sent to the underworld. Her mother loving her so much perhaps would have made a deal to switch places with her, to give her a better life. This could lead to Meg hating Hades, but hating more Hercules
Same and it was especially shown in how he love Persephone, it was even show in ORV (if you guys read it).
hades kidnapped and raped persephone who then developed stockholm syndrome… he also did cheat on her and persephone especially cheated on him.

@@mayuraslay6953 please read the hymn of demeter! it’s where persephone and hades marriage comes from. it’s about demeter’s grief as a mother and how winter came to be because hades literally kidnapped her child against her will. it was a comfort tale for mothers who had their daughters married off

My favorite theory around them being the same is Hercules dying and becoming a god, and meg going on a trip to where the flower was, created when he fell as a baby. She lost the man she loved, but the flower has a bit of him in it, which is why she’s obsessed with it.
The reason why gothel was so scared of death was being bound to hades again and that is why she did not want to face her mortality

Plus, it would make a lot more sense if we kept the AU angle, for her to be staunchly against Rapunzel running off with Eugene, since she doesn't want to see her "flower" repeat her mistakes. (Obviously, I'm going *full* AU, here: Gothel/Meg actually loves Rapunzel, and doesn't want to see her get her heart broken, because she didn't listen to her mom's warnings about being charmed by a pretty face.)

@@JoshuaA1307 basically Heracles was caused one of Zeus's many r@935 with another lady and lived as a mortal demigod. When Hera ( Zeus's wife) found out about Heracles, she cursed him to go insane, killing his wife (Meg) and his kids. Despite the massacre being the reason he has to atone and do all these tasks, I don't believe the children or Meg come up again in the story.
(It's also pretty weird how instead of Zeus, the guy who *chose to r@93 people* doesn't have to go through much, as he cares about none of his kids and probably forgot about Heracles until this point, but Heracles and by extension Meg and their children, _who were brought into this entire thing UNWILLINGLY_ have to suffer, when he had no choice on being born from Zeus being a r@91$t, which, even if it wasn't seen as disgusting as it is seen as now, was still messed up.)
Edit: I originally said affair, which doesn't make that much sense because only one side had a choice (Zeus)

Hercules and Meg get married, however, after having kids and a happy life, Hercules starts to regret his choice as a mortal. For him life was becoming mundane and his wife was slowly aging.
This led to him having affairs with other women, Hera, his mom, found out and since Zeus seemed to not care for what his son was doing (as he knew sooner or later he would turn him into a god). Hera decided to discipline his son by taking his strength.
Meg found out about the affair later on as he saw Hercules become a drunkard. One day he took it too far and hurt the kids, Meg tried to run with them by using a horse. Sadly there was an accident where she and the kids fell down a cliff.
Meg survive but not the kids. Ever since that day she never stepped a foot back into Greece. Hercules however became a god once he grew tired of being a mortal, much to his father’s expectations. As he ascended to the heavens Hera was discomforted about it. This led to both her and Zeus start a fight, resulting in the Sundrop and moondrop to fall into the earth.
Meg, hearing about Hercules ascension became cold and bitter, leading to later on joining bad people. One day however she had Cassandra, which on one hand was a blessing and a curse. She could see herself in her, and she didn’t want that.
The rest is history
This feels like one of the Disney’s Twisted Tales stories!

@@sophieperez1064 it’s a book series I don’t know if it’s actually made by Disney but basically they change the storyline where somethings different I’ve only read the Rapunzel one, which is excellent, where is what if Rapunzel‘s powers were made to hurt and not heal. It’s a really interesting take on the story and if you like reading I highly recommend it. And it isn’t like a dark it still has the same characters personalities just a Different situation

I think it would be interesting to see mother Gothel (after she died in the end of Tangled) to go back to Hades. Megara, now Mother Gothel, goes back to Hades, who WARNED her that Hercules would be the same as the other man who betrayed her. In her death, she would be a soul brought to the underworld, as Hades is reminded of a great "minion" he once had. A final meeting.
Hades, who owned Meg at one point, saw her give away her soul for one man, who fell for another, then captured the gaze of a god, in which he too, fell for another, and finally Hades would watch Megara fall into love again, motherly love, and in that love, she failed again, as the only one she never thought would leave her, did the most to leave her, and causing her death. The final meeting would be a ghostly-transparent Mother Gothel(Megara) with saddened eyes as Hades closes a book, from zero to hero to zero, Meg. As he sends her away into the river of souls, she is no different than any other, but perhaps the closest soul to Hades. Perhaps there is a place in his heart for Meg, a place of pity, and memory. Gone is meg who was chatty, gone is Megara who is snarky, gone is a lovesick girl with untouchable dreams. A tragic tale indeed. Maybe even Hades sheds a tear, Meg. Her friends called her Meg, at least if she had any friends, maybe she did have one. The end.
This is beautiful. Can this please be a song on its own? Zero to hero in a very sad tone. With maybe a little hope at the end

@@thenarratorOfyourExistence imagine her biological daughter Cassandra from rapunzel tangled adventures would react to the her mother's past and the fact that she is a biological daughter hercules who is the prince of the greek Gods from greek mythology heck i also imagine that Cassandra and rapunzel both in the underworld learn this first hand from hades himself and megara helps them escape from the underworld with rapunzel using magic to bring gothel back to life wich caused gothel to become her younger self again in other words she became megara again i also wonder how the inhabitans of rapunzel's kingdom would react to Cassandra being the biological daughter of the greek god hercules and megara trying to help others out of guilt for what she has done imagine that megara and her daughter having spear throwing competitions to see who would win just spend some quality time

When ever she says mother knew Best. It is normally a high note so the dullen quiet note really hits and makes you feel the disappointment and regret that impacted Megara ,it tuged on my heart strings. Same with when she says hades there's a lot of expression.

Slight spoilers
If this was true, maybe that's why she given up Cassandra. Cassandra from the tangled series is mother gothel's daughter and she abandoned her. If Hercules cheated on meg, maybe she held so much resentment that she didn't want anything to do with him, even her own kid
If I recall, the Greek myth of Cassandra is that she was gifted/cursed with foresight, but no one would believe her when she predicted tragedies. Similarly, Tangled's Cass was trained to be a fighter and a leader, but she was often never given that chance. Both these Cassandra's were fairly tragic. If Meg in any universe ever became Gothel, how fitting that she had a child with a Greek name.
Another possibility is that she abandoned Cassandra and despised her because she reminded her of her younger self (Meg). At the same time however she loved her daughter making their relationship complicated…. Perhaps Gothel thought it would be better for Cassandra to be abandoned and given to someone else then staying with her
Imagine hades coming after cassandra during the time Cassandra is the main villain of the tangled series and hades throw Cassandra and rapunzel both in the his domain the underworld after hades let's Cerberus lose on the kingdom of corona and in the underworld rapunzel and Cassandra found mother gothel who in after saving both rapunzel and Cassandra shows them what happened to the father of Cassandra (hercules) revealing that Cassandra is a half God (demigod for short) and that's when they find out that megara is mother gothel infact mother gothel saved them and in the underworld she is a ghost version of who her original self and imagine that Cassandra found out that while being unaware that megara is her mother gothel wich she find out during the fight with hades in his domain wich is the underworld and i imagine that rapunzel and Eugène would be surprised when megara actual saves her and Cassandra and helps them to escape from the underworld with rapunzel using magic to bring gothel as megara back to life giving her another chance at life and i also imagine that her daughter Cassandra would have plenty of questions about everything i also see megara having not only being brought back from the dead as her original self wich is megara but also having a hard time earning the forgiving of the inhabitans of the kingdom of corona and imagine her daughter being surprised by her mother skills with a sword in a sparring match with her daughter i also imagine that megara and varian would also talk with each other about ancient greece and all the beings from ancient creece mythology and folklore wich hades unleash on the kingdom of corona for example the vrykolakas wich are vampires from ancient greece mythology and King lycanuses and his kingdom wich are the first werewolves wich are from ancient greece mythology i wonder how Cassandra would react to how her father was or her meeting her grandfather zeus who is the King of the Gods i also imagine that megara reunites with pegasus and the mentor of hercules from the disney's hercules movie her bringin pegasus back with her to the kingdom of corona her daughter riding on pegasus i wonder how Cassandra would react to the fact that her father was best friends with a flying horse form ancient greek mythology and folklore
@davidvangerner7241 honestly, this sounds like the premise for a game.
A rather sad song, which is served through the Megara's history. If Gothel had been revealed more deeply, then maybe this story could have revealed it in a new way, but in the conditions that every Disney villain has the motivation "He is a villain because his heart is broken", it becomes a vicious circle.
However, that's not what I was talking about. The song itself is gorgeous: The voice, the idea itself, animations, etc. The only thing that confused me was the fact that if Gothel is Megara, and not her illusion, then how did she live up to the Tangled's timeline. If you do not take into account this issue, then the song is great.
The flower would have kept her alive until Tangled

To be honest, if we are still discussing songs like this, then it would be fun to hear from Milkyy songs from the Owl House, Star vs the forces of evil's universes, or the carpet on Try Everything. But I think it is unlikely that people here will share a similar point of view with me, but I have expressed my thoughts

Theory (not really, just a half joke, and a respons, and is more of a fanfiction, and it will posably end up being cringe and used as an exemple of what not to do when writing a fanfiction, and posably not acuret to the song, because I mostly look at the mythology (yeah I'm a history, and mythology nerd)): The whole Hercules movie is told from an unrelaibel nareter, who heard it from Greek sources, and thought that he takes his own spin on it (and basicly whitewashing it (something that I heard from an actuall Greek discribing the movie)):
So Hera drow Heracles mad, who in that madness killed both Megara and they two sons, but Megara in the background was taken back from the death. Posably her mother going down to the Underworld and eather doing what Orpheus traid to do but sucsessfuly, or she switched her place. Eather Persephone, or more posably Hades took pitty on Megara, and gived her ambrosia the thing that the gods drink, that can greant importality. Megara took it, and imiditely run away from Greece. She run away to Italian peninsula.
She was still importal, but she aged phisically a little bit (somewhat closer to mother Gothel apearenc), because she was no longer in Greece so they rules did not meant extend to her, but she was still close enough to Greece, had enough Greek influenc, and posably was in a place where Hades or his Roman counterpart Pluto can look over her so her apearenc did not change that much. She stayd her, keeping a veary low profile, posably living as a Vesta virgin, or close to small setelments during the time of the Roman Empaire, posably resenting love, and blaming for herself for what happand to her mother.
Then when Christianity become the offical religion, as the power and influenc antient Greece got smaller, she slowely begone to age, (the aprearenc of young Mother Gothel), but she was still close enough to Greece. Then she left where ever she was and run away into the woods, and lived alone, only leaving for food, and to hear the news from the Empaire.
Then when the Roman Empaire fall, she made a run, and run away again. She run away into Germania. She begone to age more, and more rapidly. She was too far away from Greece, and the eria had veary little to non Greek influenc. She lived in the woods, and once at the veary begining of the dark ages, she went back to Greece. She found nothing. The eria was fully Christan, and she was completly unable to find the Greek gods. She broke down, when Hades, and Peresphone showed up. They told each other everything. Then the two gods pulled some strings in order for Megara to doage. But she was bearly able to returen to how she looked to when she left Greece.
After this she went back to Germania, which now was known as the Kingdom of the Franks. She meneged to live isoleted in the forest, not caring about the outside world. The only time she saw or meet with outsiders was when they were on hunts, left someone into woods to starv, or Jewish people who were hiding in the woods (both were a common thing during the dark ages). Then sudenly the sundrop flower happand. At that point she already aged. So even if she could not be the same, she toke the chence. Then she lived like this for a few hundred years. Then the movie heppands.
I hope this is a good enough explonetion. And sorry if I was insensitiv (we can pretend this to be alternativ history though? I don't know), and for the bad, or imposible to understand English it's not my first laungvige. Have a nice night/day.

I really love the idea of Meg being Mothel Gothal, especially with how you portrayed it. Meg’s mother tries to warn her that once her beauty fades, she will no longer be desirable to Hercules, which could be the reason Mother Gothel is so obsessed with being young. She thinks she was cheated on because she has aged and was, therefore, ‘ugly’. It could also be why Mother Gothel is so overprotective of Rapunzel. Not only does she want her healing hair, but she doesn't want her to be hurt by Flynn the same way she was with Hercules.
I love the detail of Meg/Gothel’s mom having more curly hair since Mother Gothel’s hair is curly as well.
Wow. This adds on another layer to the generational trauma. Also explains Gothel/Megara's obsession with youth and beauty, since she learned to equate 'losing everything' with 'losing her looks'.
We've been studying Tangled as a subject in my University this semester. Never seen the movie till now. Awesome to see someone making a parody of it at this point in time.

This Au makes sense. Because when she kidnapped Rapunzel to keep herself younger but maybe another reason is that she was alone for so long. She also probably didn't want the same thing to happen to her, not only to keep Rapunzel stay in the tower for her powers but to also protect her
The actual lore could also be, because Gothel was alone for so long.
I really like this au, the song, voice acting, and the animation was absolutely beautiful. I will admit Mother Gothel is actually my favorite villain, I hope that one day we can get more of her past.

and i feel like meg could had seen it coming through because she used to be in a bad relationship before so i hope she would have a peaceful happy ending TT . However, personally, I think if we can make Gothel used to fall in love with Rapunzel's dad like in Barbie's Rapunzel would make a lott more sense

Quite an interesting and good song. Its kinda accurate to Megara's story in Greek mythology. Cause even though Hercules doesn't cheat, he does hurt Meg in the end. Well her, their kids and Hercules' nephew.
This goes so well with the question, ‘why did Gothel want youth and beauty?’. With this we get our answer, and it’s such a delightful twist on this story! This helped a ton when I was trying to write my own villain arc, thanks!
I love stories with animations of this type, and your voice is really beautiful, it conveys to me all the sadness and bitterness of a heart that kept hope until it broke, and yet there is a certain melancholy and affection in the way she talks about her mother...

Such an interesting storyline for the character/s. And the animatic was immaculately incredible in showing it.
Although the theory is very unlikely, even without yet considering the sequel series, it's still fun to wonder about and think "what if it can be true?".
Perhaps Megara, as Gothel, apprenticed under Demanitus, and pretended to align with Zhan Tiri during the betrayal, so she could learn and take the flower for herself. Or what if Cassandra is her & Hercules' child (nah, that makes no sense).
When I heard the theory from SuperCarlin Brothers, I loved that twist of what could have been. And this makes me believe it more.
This is awesome but Meg mother was already dead at the time though… she stabs herself and we know this because in the movie Hercules and Megara go watch the oedipus play and megara is meant to be the daughter of Creon and Eurydice and the events of Hercules takes place after the “true” events of Antigone and Oedipus Rex occur… but I still love the sentiment. Just imagine if this is actually canon. It would be a valid reason why Gothel doesn't like Eugene for Rapunzel. I know Gothel only cared about her hair but just imagine if she genuinely love Rapunzel as her own daughter. Seeing this as her reason is so valid and sad, considering she doesn't want Rapunzel to end up the same as her. At the very same time, People that is good-looking like Hercules or Eugene, they would either love someone for beauty or heart. This was the best alternative song i ever heard❤
She stole Rapunzel as a newborn from her actual parents. If she ACTUALLY loved her, she'd have brought her back AND accepted that she would finally die after centuries of cheating death. Let's not attempt to justify her, alright?

I could TOTALLY see Meg as Mother Gothel, Hercules cheating also makes sense as his father Zues ends up in the sheets with any woman he comes across. It runs in the family.
1:36 This is actually true because with his second wife, he actually did cheat on her, and it was because of her that he ended up dying. Resulting in him becoming an immortal god and marrying the goddess of youth ( who is also his half-sister).

I feel bad for Meg/Mother Gothel. She disobeyed her mom and lost everything because of it. I think that Mother Gothel does care about Rapunzel, and is trying to protect her in a way so Rapunzel won't be like herself. Also this sounds a bit like Rapunzel's Villan Song by Lydia the Bard but idk

This would actually be accurate lore wise if we look at mythology. Cheating seems to be a recurring topic along with the fact that many gods tend to find interest in multiple women (ahem Zeus being one of the worst cheaters). So this would make sense, if anything Hades would be in the right and more so he's shown to be one of the rarer gods that Is loyal and devoted to his beloved (aka dear Persephone).

I'm sorry, but this is just character assasination of Hercules. That man traded his strength for Meg's soul, risked his life to get her soul from the Underworld, and gave up living on Mount Olympus to be with Meg at the end of the movie. He would NEVER do this.
If Mother Gothel had to be a character from a previous Disney movie, I'd have much prefer her to be Snow White obsessed with staying young and fair, it's a million times more believable than Hercules betraying the woman he LITERALLY went to hell and back for.

I always thought mother was Snow White because she turned to not the fairest of them all and that’s all she had going for her so she tried to be young forever and beautiful
