  • Here's another vintage 20" 4-blade box fan that landed in my hands. It's supposed to be a 3-speed, but as you may notice, it has an on/off toggle switch. Someone wired it like that for the fan to operate only on high speed (which is my favorite speed anyway). Yes, it has a GE export motor, but you're about to see how long it takes to spin down when I shut it off. The propeller looks like it could be reversible. Thanks for watching!

@@diyintrovert961 I saw the control panel. It's supposed to be set for low, medium, and high. Why did they add an on/off switch instead of a control knob? Talk about modification.

@@diyintrovert961 I counted 105 seconds or a minute and 45 seconds for the blades to spin down from the moment you switched the fan off. Wow, that's the absolute longest spin down time of any fan I have ever seen. Those ball bearings in there must have been really good to have lasted this long.

@@HuskyDog88 those are actually sleeve bearings inside the GE motor. Thanks for watching!

@@diyintrovert961 You're welcome. Any reason why someone would want to modify this fan with an on/off switch to run it only on high speed? Because I can tell that's not the way it was originally made.

@@HuskyDog88 Your guess is as good as mine as to why someone would put an on/off switch on it. It was originally built as a 3-speed fan.
