I think a good idea would be to apply a coat of transparent acrylic matt medium on the wood and let it dry, then apply the transparent watercolor ground. Maybe this would stop the seepage and control the borders? need to try this! Love the texture of the wood showing through from behind the mountains!! Thanks for the video!

I've had a pretty good experience painting the entire piece of wood with transparent watercolor ground, allowing that to dry completely, and then taping off a section and then painting. The transparent watercolor over the entire wood piece keeps that bleeding under the tape.
Very old video I know-and helpful to me despite the fact that I’m about to offer a critique-but for anyone watching, the instructions do not indicate you’re supposed to sand the WATERCOLOR GROUND AFTER it’s applied, rather, sanding the SURFACE before applying the ground to the surface is what the instructions recommend.

This is the best watercolor ground testing video I've seen, especially love the dog painting, great job! I got the transparent ground to use on wood and colored papers, haven't really tried it yet. I do have samples of the white, black and gold, and I found that I prefer to use a pouncing sponge to apply the ground on paper because brush strokes are too distracting. The black ground is great and metallics watercolors look fantastic on it, but it seems to have an odor that stays with it--it's not unpleasant but is very noticeable. I'd love to see more testing of these grounds and techniques!
I have an old Arches watercolor block that wasn’t doing right. Trying the transparent ground to see if it will renew the block. Thanks for the video on how to use it! Now I may also try it on non watercolor paper or even cheaper paper.
If you want to sand again, I would recommend wiping it down with tacky paper you can get at a home improvement store, usually in the sand paper aisle, that is what is commonly used for home projects when sanding is required, and I used it when I painted a kitchen table and needed a sanded surface to be *pristine* and clean. It should pick up all of that grit!!

Recently ordered the titanium white and transparent and am now researching the potential uses! These seem like an amazing product! I will have to do lots of tests. I also use gouache and watercolour and lots of brands and custom mixes. I will see how I can get the deep darks using the transparent ground. The transparent one will allow even more potential but I'll be VERY happy also with my larger jar of the titanium white.
I will remember to be patient and wait for it to fully dry. I think the black will be the next one to get for use with my gouache and metallic watercolour/gouache!
I think the transparent grounds would work best if layered 2 or three times to build up coverage over the wood (I may have missed if you did do that?).
I have the white grounds and have been experimenting on canvas and so far I have nice results using it over acrylic gesso. Tbh I didn't even let it cure 24hrs because I wanted to see how much of a difference it makes.
I'd love to see the transparent grounds used as a sealing layer over paint and if that may allow for a sort of glazing effect 🤔
I really appreciate the friendly but concise delivery in this video :) I don't use this brand of ground but tips about curing time, brush strokes, and sanding (or lack thereof) is applicable and very helpful ☺️
You have to seal the wood before applying the ground and will not have any issue with bleeding color in the wood

Thanks this is really helpful. I got a bunch of cheap sketch book im getting frustrated with and was about to spend money on acryllic guache until i found this vid! Ill just try using water color ground in thinner washes instead of learning a new medium

Been circling this product to test I like using scraps of whatever over buying expensive papers. Have pieces of cardboard etc. As someone just wanting to test out supplies not very skilled broke af like the possibilities of this product. I'm curious how well inks would do on it.
Found expensive paper a barrier to creating at least for me personally. Always consider the cost. It's more fun to repurpose items to test or explore on like recycling a box into a junk art journal for example. This product I'm really excited to try.

I found with the transparent ground doing a second coat helps control where the water color goes.

Have you ever mixed the black ground with the white ground to get a gray color I've tried black jar I enjoy it I use it to put in old books than paint metallic watercolor coliro paintings I also would like to purchase the buff titanium to try to mix with black to get a different color...
I love those watercolour grounds...I only used transparent and gold one but really enjoy it. The colour lightening is the case with me as well (have you notice the same with the white one or does it dry better?) The colours flow more than on paper but it is a great medium. Great video.

This is a really good testing video. Helps me understand the use of watercolor ground! Curious, is it possible to apply more layers of ground to enhance the transparent ground? I would like to preserve the wood too as you mentioned. May I know which gesso you use?
I use a variety of gesso recently I've been using blicks. You can layer up the translucent... But it makes it more opaque.

I usually add it under the non-transparent to make sure it really sticks.

What does the watercolor ground feel like after it's dried? Does it feel like acrylic paint, or paper, etc. Another video said it felt hard like stone. I was bummed I really wanted it to feel soft like paper lol.
I would most closely compare it to drywall or chalk. It's kind of stone like but softer. Since I tested this I was at the art store and saw that Qor has a ground that is supposed to more closely replicate the feeling of paper. So that might be better!

I got them on amazon and yes the holes were pre-drilled!
How to water proof and protect your final work from a water leak in the house? Do you seal your work?
I have not tried her method yet but when I glue watercolor paper to wood panels I prep the watercolor with several light coats of Kamar spray varnish by Krylon, then after it’s glued down to the wood and dry, I use Dorland’s wax to give it several coats and buff it to a slight sheen.
Wondering if you use on unglazed ceramic coasters, and with you wound finish it with.
Use a Painter’s Tack Cloth if you elect to sand?
May have been said but i would paint the whole wood object with the transparent then maybe it won’t bleed
@rebelunicorncrafts will this work on styrofoam? Thinking about watercolour Easter egg activity with my toddler
I would imagine it should work- I don’t have any handy to test, though. You may want to scuff up the styrofoam first depending on how smooth it is.
Hi! I bought the titanium white one and have applied it to the paper of a cheap sketchbook (I got it for sketchbooking). Is there a reason you need to wait 24-48 hours before using your watercolour on top? I left it to dry for 3 hours now and it feels completely dry. Is there a reason I should still wait for atleast 24 hours?
I think that depends on how thick. The manufacturers recommend the 24 hours so I think that's how long it takes to fully cure but I'm not entirely certain
Have you tried using a foam roller to get a smoother finish ?
I haven't but that's a good idea!
Is the texture like hot press or cold press paper?
It kind of depends on how you put it on. Probably most similar to cold press in most applications. However, if you sanded it, you could make it closer to hot press.

The lady in this video discovered an additive that allows you to do more layers without lifting those underneath so you could get darker areas where you want them.
