I haven't gone as far as this guy has... but I've gone pretty far and I can definitely say that what he did is not beyond the realm of what I'd be willing to try. When you're absolutely desperate, in crippling pain 24/7, have no quality of life left, don't have much life left, and a freaking army of doctors and dozens of different medications have failed you, you get desperate.
I was suffering from severe GI symptoms from scleroderma, skin rashes that burned like absolute fire, diminishing eyesight (also from the scleroderma - rapid onset vitreous frosting), and small fiber neuropathy. I literally hurt everywhere. Throw in a 12 level spinal fusion from a broken back and I was just done.
Over the last year and a half, I've found a combination that works for me. I have no idea if this formula would help anybody else in the world, but I'm sharing because there might be one person who can feel better.
    1. Carnivore diet. This did the most to help reduce my autoimmune flares. Frankly, it's amazing.
    2. Vitamin C. I know lots of people say that it's not necessary on carnivore - but I absolutely do need it. I developed subclinical scurvy and that's not pleasant, folks. Now maybe it's because of the scleroderma. The disease does cause a person to make more collagen than they need. Perhaps my body is gobbling up all the resources it can to complete the task. Maybe after being sick for 20 years I'm suffering from oxadative stress or maybe I just don't have any resources left to get by without it. But I get very sick without it and feel one hell of a lot better with it, so I'm taking it.
    3. GABA. This one is odd. All of my symptoms improved on carnivore except for the neuropathy. That just got worse and worse. It finally made its way to the white matter (dura) of my spinal cord and that's a whole new level of pain, I can tell you. There aren't enough drugs in the world to cope with that. The go-to treatment is gabapentin, but I suffer horrible side effects from that and get no benefit. It just doesn't work for me. I did some poking around on Google and discovered that gabapentin is just a synthetic form of GABA - a very normal, common amino acid that our bodies produce by themselves. So I decided to cut to the chase and try the real deal. Bought some 750mg GABA off of Amazon. I found that my dose is three pills spread out through the day. All of the benefits, none of the side effects. I can't take them all in one shot or I do feel the same side effects as I do with gapapentin. Thankfully, those side effects only last an hour or two and not days as with the drug.
    4. Vitamin B-1 (Thiamine). The GABA made a noticeable improvement with my SFN, but didn't bring me all the way home. I've had a life-long problem with thiamine deficiency (my kids and mother have the same issue. Don't know why.) and I hadn't been supplementing since I started carnivore. I thought that I'd be getting enough in my diet. I added 500mg a day of the Solaray brand thiamine (the only one that's been proven to work in MY body via medical tests. The kids and I went through a pretty frustrating 6-month saga with my doctor a few years ago where he was trying to get our levels up and no supplement would work. Finally we hit on Solaray and got the results we were looking for. GNC is garbage.) Between the GABA and the thiamine I'd say that my SFN is about 85-90% resolved right now. I've just added 200mg of Ecological Formulas Allithiamine B1 to the cocktail to see if that'll make a difference. We'll see. I just started that yesterday so I can't give an impression just yet.
    5. Ulcerative colitis of the rectum. Many people who suffer from UC only have issues in the last 1/3rd of the colon and the rectum. I'm one of those people. I began carnivore in August of 18 and by December my GI symptoms were doing much better, but not with that problem. This is where I relate to this guy. I found out that butyrate and glutamine are the best substances for healing UC. My problem is that my issue is at the very end of the whole system. Hardly anything is making it al the way from my mouth to the other end. So I got some MCT oil, melted it with butter, added glutamine and butyrate powders (butyrate smells like vomit. I swear to gawd) put it all in an enema and put it up my butt. Did this once a day for a week and finally healed up. I don't believe that this would've worked at all had I not been eating carnivore. Everything goes into one big formula and all the parts are needed to make the whole.
This treatment held for about nine months. then the problem came back. (I know why it came back. I went off my diet for the holidays. For the last three months I've been pushing it. I knew what I was doing and I did it anyway.) I'm about to start another round.
    6. Fibro-response. This one pisses me off. There's no logical reason why this should help. The pills look indigestible. The forms of vitamins are all wrong. The herbals in it have no scientific backing. I never would've pursued this, but my friend was adamant and bought me a bottle. Then she nagged me to give it a chance. And I'll be damned, but it does makes a positive difference. I doubt it's placebo because I thought this was bullsh*t to my core.
    7. Raw liver and raw egg yolks. These are my "multivitamin" and they're important. For the eggs, I just use cheap Walmart eggs, but I spend $money$ on the best calves' liver I can get my hands on. Three pieces of liver a week and three-four egg yolks a day. I whip the yolks up in the blender with some monkfruit and cinnamon, then drink it like a shake. If I have good cream, I'll add a bit of that, too. Otherwise I just add about two tablespoons of water to thin it a bit. It actually tastes really good.
If somebody wants to know how to eat raw liver without being traumatized or gagging, respond to this post and I'll share. It's really not that bad. After you get through the first two times, you'll be a pro.
All-in-all, I've made a TON more progress on my own than all of the doctors put together. Right now I only find them useful for diagnosis, tests, and actual surgeries.
16 months ago I was told that I probably only had two years to live. Right now, the only way I'm dying anytime soon is if I get hit by a bus.
My back is jacked up, but that's structural and there's not much anyone can do about it.
Don't give up, people. Don't dismiss your doctors, but don't close your eyes and trust that they've got all the answers, either. Do your own homework. If something looks like it's a long shot, and the risk is small or none (like the butter enema) give it a go. There wasn't one magic pill that made me better. But each of those small things meant a few more steps in the right direction.
I recently shocked my pain management doctor by announcing that I no longer needed opiates. (Damn, that felt good) I've gone down from a shoebox's worth of meds a day to a single muscle relaxant and the occasional zofran. (If I'd stop screwing around with what I put in my mouth, that last one won't be needed either) I'm down a hundred pounds and that has helped my back quite a bit right there.
I'm still going to keep experimenting. Slowly and carefully. Try to find any other missing pieces to my puzzle. I'm getting there.

I find this story interesting, but it would have been useful it the filmmakers had mentioned that this is available as a treatment in many places, where it would be supervised by physicians...google it...I vaguely remember it taking place in Switzerland and Germany. This guy seems like an interesting fellow but the pacing and choices of the director and editor made him seem less so. To me that indicates you are not serving your subject well at all. The pacing of this is so slow and I do not see why. The grotesqueness is really not that grotesque. Instead you upped the distasteful, excess of intimacy in your documentary style, without either increasing our identification with him or increasing the story-telling or informativeness. He deserves a re-edit and the viewers deserve more information. Just offering my sincere feedback. You have turned me off a documentary style that I usually love, rather than turning me off some scientist taking poo capsules.

I would like to see an update on the results. Also when he states Now time to repeat the process over a 72 hour period - did he take the Antibiotics all over again, or did he just have to take repeated doses of the gut biom-fecal matter? Unlike the woman narrating in this video that ways in and says this isn't even a blip on the scientific radar, I think it's a very good experiment that just needs to be better detailed. Gut ecosystems are complex, and contain a huge variety of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses. We all have pretty much the same stuff, but what's different is how the ecosystem is balanced. By mostly wiping out an ecosystem, and transplanting a new one, the new one can stay mostly intact. However, it can be altered over time through habits of the person. For example, if you have an ecosystem that thrives on sugar, but switch to an atkins diet for five years, you are going to end up with an ecosystem that thrives on proteins, because there's always a constant competition going on. His "sweet tooth" may be completely psychological, that's why in real scientific experiments you have control groups so people don't know if they are getting the real deal or placebo.
Ultimately, his experiment was a failure, in that the only thing that worked was a fecal transplant, which is already known science. His DIY reproduction of this may just have the benefit of costing him less than going through the medical industry.

I would hope that a former synthetic biology researcher from NASA would know that if you are going to have a fecal transplant, you should get that person's flora tested first for rotaviruses and other pathogens that may not have yet manifested in the donor's phenotype. He didn't mention what type of capsules he used, but you can't use just any capsules, or you risk getting the transplanted bacteria in the wrong region of the digestive tract. You can also change gut bacteria by diet. Skin bacteria can be changed not only by changing soaps or eliminating them but by even wearing the other person's clothing. Also we don't understand how meditation or even simple relaxation and exercise can change the biome but it does. What doesn't change more often than not is a quest for an outside agency we can control to take the place of our making personal changes.

Fecal transplants are used to treat certain gastrointestinal illnesses with great success. The danger in this case was that the donor's sample wasn't screened for pathogens beforehand. Choosing a healthy donor was good, but a person appearing healthy doesn't mean they can't have some pathogen with no symptoms.

I would like to donate some bacteria from my throat lymph nodes they have done me well, I had aggressive dental infections for a year and a half untreated due to the pandemic shutting dentists down. I displayed septicaemia twice but recovered within a week and two weeks and had too many abscesses to count and each time before recovering from the infection my lymph nodes would calcify and reduce after the infection had passed for that time. I don’t know if this is just standard or not but these were serious and repetitive cushion abscesses and I have twelve or thirteen lymph nodes I can’t remember exactly but this was pointed out as a mutation in and of itself by the doctor. Please comment if you know how I could do this or if it’s just a normal occurrence. The extra lymph nodes aren’t dangerous as I already had a biopsy.
