Great video! Very cool that you're planning to be on the circuit forever essentially. I'm planning the same. I'm 41 btw, 42 in February, i started Judo at 36, currently Brown, waiting on the Judo Quebec to open back up so i can get my points and pass the Black Belt exam. Osu!
I'm 51, just started judo a few months ago. I'm lucky that my club has spring board floor under the mats as well as a crash mat. I'm enjoying very much!
I'd say give it a go, don't know until you try. Most judo dojos / gyms should be accommodating. There are plenty of judo guys still going in there 50s, 60s and sometimes even 70s. If it's too much, could always try bjj. I just started at 34 and I'm rather unathletic and overweight, so far so good.
I'm a 56YO white belt and this video makes me feel in good hands, b/c our sensei is definitely on the same page as you are. He's 66, so he gets it. Thanks so much!
I returned to TKD at 47 after quitting after getting my 1st Dan at 16. Its been way harder than I ever thought. And you are not the same. Accept that. But I am improving and learning so its been entirely worth it. Keep going.
Pickup green belt last year at the age of 50, was an orange in 1983. At the age of 13. Made a promise to my SENSEI back in 1978 that will get my blackbelt some day. Had a skydiving injury 5 months ago broken Fibula Tibia and ankle, but I healed rapidly, back on the mat.
I'm 40 do I count ).......That's the best Ne Waza Judo advice Iv'e heard, tap quickly and often and it really works for my ego, so what if the opponent is lighter or less proficient, anyone can get dumped Iv'e seen it almost every session..Thanks Kathy.
Yes, tap early, tap often...for sure... In regards to less proficient opponents, people need to exercise the judo code of "Jita Kyoei" (Mutual Benefit & Welfare) so that we cooperate with one another to help the less proficient partner... throw-for-throw or simply doing ukemi when less proficient partner goes for a technique is always better...then help him with his technique to improve him... that's the way it should be (but isn't always admittedly)
I'm a 41 year old shodan. Just hurts more now, so I switched to bjj currently a purple belt. Judo is more physically demanding and has a higher rate of injury. So I tried to do randori as light and smooth as posible. I chose my sparring partners wisely. Still the competitive young bucks can kill me easily. I'm too slow for them.
Thank you for your good video. I (1. dan.) got stroke at the age of 65 in Judo during a strangle practise here in Iceland. What can you tell my about the big number of older Judoka's over 40 who have got stroke according to a list which Kodakan in Japan had accumulated over the last 10 years.
Great vid. I am 46 and will be doing Judo for the first time here in Dallas, Texas under Humberto Becerra ( 8th dan ). He has the really nice matted floor with the crash mat too. I start on Friday evening.
How old is he in this video? I am 77 and work out vigorously with my judo throwing dummies. Kathy I watch your gokyo videos several times a day, but I spend a lot of times relaxing and visualizing in my mind all of the steps you teach. Visualization can speed up the learning of everything, even things like foreign languages, and calculus.
I’m 42 with a dodgy right shoulder but I really want to start! For my daughters as much as me, because if they see me do it, they are probably more likely to do it themselves.
@@KathyHubble193 Thanks! There’s a club in Newport that looks like it would be good to take the kids to. I’ll be asking them about how I can get involved too.
Judo is a strange world. I did two Master competitions in BJJ as white belt without problems, but in Judo (different school) they don't want talking about Master competitions.😅😢😢

O.G. FITNESS That's great! You will pass! Keep working hard at it! And yes, we will be 110 before we stop judo!

Marianna - that's awesome!! And yes, sprung floor is essential!! Let us know how your judo journey is going!

that is wonderful. At age 55, i just went back to judo for the first time in 30 years! It’s a great sport.
I started at 34 too. I'm 37 now.😊
Your belt promotion is the best judo instruction I've ever seen in yt! Thanks for that gem.

This is the perfect video for me, about to return to Judo at 56. Many thanks for this.
LOL, that's what I did at 54 after 25 years absence, now 56!

Wow thanks for sharing Im 40 now and was worried I was too old to start but this video (and the comments!) are so inspiring to me!
Justin Bailey absolutely! Never too old!! 40 is just the beginning!
well done Cathy & John....should be watched by all Judoka over 40
Thank you Russ! Much appreciated! Love, Kathy
I’m now 40 and I will work hard to get my black belt . Thank you for your video!
Fabien Rivenet - keep going! You will achieve your black belt!!!
