Per owners manual you always plug adaptor on the charge cable before plugging it into the car
That was painful to watch lol
We used 3 EA stations on our last trip to the East Coast from Texas and it was a fantastic experience! Helped us quickly bypass a few v2 Tesla chargers that had long waits or load-sharing. Everyone we interacted with at the EA stations were very kind and conversational too 😊
In New Zealand we have been doing this for years as our Tesla's and the Tesla Supercharger's have CCS2
You did plug it backwards as you surmised. Lock the adaptor onto the CCS first then plug into the car
I don't believe Tesla said they were opening all their superchargers to CCS. The announcement were a fairly small fraction, and actually included more destination chargers than superchargers. The irony of that is that all destination chargers are already open to CCS if you have a teslatap.
I thought the announced deal was for 10% of the U.S. scers to have magic docks by the end of next year? 🤔
Tesla announced that they would open ~3,500 of their Supercharger stalls by the end of 2024, so at best, their commitment is only to open a fraction of their total charger count.
Thank you for instruction, going to use E.A. next time. Btw, I have been charged 0.5/kWh by supercharger in sunnyvale, CA.
The newest FSD beta update 11.3.6 really is a game changer. Get that update and then test exiting, merging on the highway.. it's getting really good. It's really smooth changing lanes now too, not jerking over like it used to.
11:47 holy biscuits that was scary thank goodness angel tommy was with you. Used his angelic power good job bud love you
Stalker
Please remember that you can "Put your hands back on the wheel" when that warning shows up while on AutoPilot by using the right roller wheel and select a few mph up and back. That dismisses the warning so you don't have to add any torque to the wheel. Great video guys. Thank you...
The left volume button works too.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Tesla but of all the things the car can do why can't they get the auto wipers working. The car can drive itself but auto wipers almost never work.
Self driving has got to be one of the stupidest things that car designers ever came up with. We were always taught to stay in control of your vehicle. Don't even give the public the choice. OK video guys your very entertaining. Still don't think ev will be for everyone, at least not me in Central Canada.
You should note that not all Teslas are CCS enabled they must have the electronic board installed near the charging port inside! If they are or not, the information will be on the screen under vehicle information.
CCS is just so damn BIG though
My model 3 is the exact opposite. Just a light mist and the wipers go into hyper speed mode! Great vid as always guys
My Model S does this. Drives me nuts. A little mist sends it into hyper monsoon mode, flapping like crazy.
Tesla has the most useless automatic wipers. They either wait until you're blind or are just on high randomly. I always have to just turn them on manually, which is obnoxious because you have to use the screen to do it.
True that
Does voice control work for the wipers?
@Jebus Hypocristos, I love comments like this! Hilariously off topic! 😄
@@matthewprather7386 I have no idea. I'll try it later today and update.
You guys go some great videos. Thanks for this one.
@11:48 that was not the cars fault…it took the lane change perfect but you yanked it back into the wrong lane…which in turn freaked the car out, rightfully so.
May I suggest some head covering to keep warm and dry in that weather. And the man in the short sleeves, I wonder what he was driving?
In Europe all Teslas come with a CCS port. Only a matter of time before they accept it and move over.
Free electric charging is very short sighted. Ionic 5 lady is tying up a charger when she could be charging at home
Not sure why she didn’t charge at home. Can’t hold that against her since we don’t know the circumstances. But a regular car buyer would expect to be able to publicly charge when needed just like they would be able to fuel up when needed. If owning an EV takes significantly more planning then that will impact adoption.
She is not “tying up a charger”. She has as much right to it as anyone else now. I completely understand why somebody would want to fill their car up with free fuel versus having to pay for it.
@@mart0225 she said on camera she’s dc fast charging because it’s free.
@@bostondan77 Still don’t know all of the circumstances. How much driving did she do before charging. Is she going somewhere after she picks up her sister?
The point that she has the right to charge regardless still stands.
Manufacturers are doing what Tesla did, which is to provide free charging, to help sell vehicles. The ‘free’ charing is being paid for up front at the time of purchase.
@@markmonroe7330 I meant the auto manufacturers are short sighted for including unlimited charging with the vehicle, it promotes using the limited fast chargers available rather than charging at home or work. They should sell the car at a lower price instead of paying for her level 3 charging; it doesn’t help the strained charging infrastructure.
my 2021 Model 3 cant charge using a ccs station until i get a new ecu installed
Haven't gotten mine yet but I think there is a qr code on the adapter that has the directions.
You can put CCS charger with 350 kw for faster with Tesla
Do people really think ev will take off if the outlets are not standardized? I don't need an adapter to fill up a gas vehicle. Ridiculous.
My '23 Model 3 auto wipers sucks manual control sucks as well. Tesla can't figure out how to make good rain sensing wipers.
do I believe for one second, that they don't know the scroll wheels work with the blue screen, no one chance in he ll
And I still can't get EVGo Auto Charge to work and all the CCS drama. It's painful.
I just watched another video regarding Electrify America charging fried some EV's. Why would you take your Tesla to an EA station? Who would be at fault if the charger fried your Tesla? I wouldn't want to find out.
Look Mom no hands😮
Hey gents, if you know anyone who is willing to buy me a Model 3, I’d be more than willing to accept one! Awesome video. Keep up the great work!
why would it suck? the non tesla chargers are up to 350 kv 800 volts,,, lot more than tesla super chargers
Thank you for showing everyone why you need to keep your hands on the wheel. I still don't see the need for FSD (f___ up someone else's day) if you don't want to drive with your hands on the wheel take the bus. That goes for all the ev cars coming out with this hands free gimmick. SMH
G’day mate, why can’t everybody on this planet agree on 1 electric socket plug design? Electric socket plug is just a simple device, yet people have to carry multiple plugs for different countries. Same with different brands of EVs, mate
Ford Assist 2.0 costs way less and does the same. 😂
I don’t believe any of this, where did you find an Electrify America charger that works ? I’m on the 2 year free charge with them, boy did I get suckered, should have done my homework. 80% of the time I use my level 2 I put in at home ( up went my electric bill) and the other 20% is used when I’m away from home and usually have to wait 2 hours for a station that has 6 chargers and only one works. People I talk with at an Electrify America charging station share the same story. We can’t wait to use the Tesla chargers…..huh
If you buy the S3XY buttons you can set one of them to precondition the Tesla battery manually.
What you were using was navigate on autopilot, not full self driving beta.
How could you tell?
I thought autopilot was denoted with the 2 blue lines on the outside of the lane and FSD was the single blue line in the middle of the lane?
Around the world to the left!
The thing that stands out about your video is how crap your tesla interior is. The seats in particular. The plastic stiching isn't even even. I've spent thousands of miles in Teslas, and the interiors are just junk.
@jebushypocristos Hilarious
@Jebus Hypocristos Go Yugo!!
I’m surprised you didn’t use a faster EA charger. I use the 350 and have gotten as high as 182kw. With EA membership that beats the local v2 superchargers for speed and cost.
I learned a trick, move volume up or down on the wheel instead of jiggling the wheel
That’s what I do with my Tesla 😉
Or increase autopilot speed up or down 1 mile/hr with the other scroll wheel.
Only works if it doesn't beep at you because you took too long.
Another option is push the gear stalk down
Ohhhh
As a Leaf owner; On road trips, the most common reason Tesla owners tell me they use the public chargers is that the price is often substantially cheaper.
I once went to an EA station that had only 4 stalls. All were full and one was taken up by a tesla charging off CCS when there were 28, mostly unoccupied Superchargers across the street
@@areitu
just like gas stations, people go to where its cheaper
Are you flirting with her?
Autopilot and Full Self driving are two different things. Autopilot is advanced cruise control, which is the one you guys were using and is comparable to the Supercruise/BlueCruise. FSD is what can handle city streets and it's far more advanced. It's more comparable to Waymo/Cruise. You have to request FSD Beta under the Autopilot section. The latest version is V11.3.6.
They said they are paying the $200 a month for FSD
@@jasondesjarlais5507 What's the point of paying for it if they're not going to download the software that they're paying for on to their car?
@@jasondesjarlais5507 yeah I have fsd and have used autopilot for a while.
They don't have FSD turned on in their settings. They are using navigate on autopilot here which at this point is massively inferior to FSD beta. Whether you are subbed to fsd or purchased it like me you still need to turn it on in the vehicle settings.
This is kind of sad on an EV channel.
The css adapter is SO BIG. Thats is horrible. It shows the amazing Tesla engineering.
Using the Tesla CCS adapter with EVgo and Autocharge+ is amazingly seamless, wish Electrify America was as easy
I don’t think many people truly know what, where and how EVs charge. I think newer EV converts may not have done their homework on charging in general.
Great job guys!! EA is 36 cents a Kw, how much is Tesla now? I sold my Y for Lightning so haven’t been keeping track? Good to see the progress.
Teslas about the same. I think my average was about 35 on the last road trip. How do you like the lightning? I’d have probably went for that had it been more available/not as expensive.
@@Whatisthis195 I would not pay the price they are charging for it now. I got my Lariat ER for 79k before taxes and getting the 7500 tax credit. I really am enjoying it, it’s the best ride I’ve ever had. Took some time getting used to the size (my first truck), but it’s so versatile. Use it soon for camping, ton of projects in the yard, and electricity for outages. I cannot stand the charging infrastructure at the moment.
Paying attention while driving is the hard part. It is even harder to pay attention if you aren't doing the driving. I don't see the value of the current self driving system.
It’s how autopilots in airplanes work - it flies the airplane, but the human pilot is there to make sure it stays on course and doesn’t make a mistake. Pilots still do this after decades of airplanes that have auto land and other sophisticated capabilities.
I continue to be amazed at how such a small plug can handle so much Amperage without bursting into flames 🔥
The Tesla plug is what I’m used to. I’m constantly amazed out how ridiculously huge CCS cables are for how little they output (especially the 50kW cables).
Tesla should be the standard plug
The trick is to increase the voltage. The higher the voltage, the smaller the cable you can use to transmit even more power. Volts * Amps = Watts. So if you increase volts but keep amps the same, you get more power and you don't have to increase the wire size (But you do have to be more careful as higher voltages means a higher chance of arcing).
@@electricandlspower Are you talking about Tesla charge ports in North America, China, or Europe?
It appears what you all were using was Nav on autopilot and not FSD. FSD visually looks different and shows more lanes, borders of the road etc. You specified that you were paying the FSD. You need to make sure FSD is actually enabled in the settings to be safe. Based on what I'm seeing it's not enabled and they likely have not pushed the specific FSD beta SW update to your car if it's on a later SW branch as the two are separate and the FSD branch has not caught up yet to the entire fleet with current features.
Not sure why this is such a big deal. I see Teslas at CCS machines from time to time .
Awesome video! I would be shivering in that weather trying to make that video! Does Tesla sale the adapter on Tesla locations?
EA does like their 50 pound charger handles.
The biggest difference other than hoping the adapter will work is what you discovered at the EA station up the road and that is they typically don't have enough chargers and you run the risk of one r more being offline. The handshake EA and others do takes longer than Tesla to do but as long as the stall is working it's a minor inconvenience. But having to stop and then go down the road when you're on limited battery charge is unacceptable. I wonder how long that lady would have been there had you not been there to help her...and she would have panicked since she needed to get to the airport to pick up her sister. Would she have been calm enough to know to back into the other stall to see if it were working? I'm not sure. And what if it wasn't. She would have had to wait for another person to get done and even then there's no telling how fast she would have been charging since the station was reducing power to spread the load......
nice clip as always . always remember the preconditioning works best when you give the car more time to heat up . I had noticed in all of our teslas that a short drive won't precondition as good as a longer drive before getting to the station .
Soooo.. you have to use more battery to get a faster charge rate? So they can charge you for more of a charge? That's like a restaurant charging you more to cook the food you ordered that should already be cooked in order to eat it. I'm not saying electrics are a bad idea, just some of their idiosyncrasies are.
Ea is just hit or miss. They need to do better.
Thanks. I couldn't make it work and I realized afterwards that I probably needed to plug it into the adapter and then plug the adapter into the Tesla. You just verified it. They are much cheaper than the superchargers in the desert where we live...28cents!!! Thanks!!!
I have a Lectron brand adapter and it works up to 250kw on the fast EA chargers..
Full self driving and can't even take an exit
I was going to try out my new CCS adapter at the EA station at Colorado Mills Mall. There was only 1 stall available with about 12 Supercharger stations next door (With only 3 in use). My wife wouldn't let me charge at EA. She was too embarrassed with all the Tesla chargers available next door. Well, we went to eat at Garbanzos. After dinner, I looked at Plugshare and there was only 1 EA in use at that station. So we went over again, and charged with my CCS new adapter. It worked great. Only got 54Kw, but we were at 71% battery and the battery was cold, so that speed was ok. Only charged to 79%, but a success for my new adapter.
The point of the video I appreciated is they helped out the woman out. Just nice to see people spreading kindness in the world.
Kindness is definitely the more important thing, but it's also important to help out fellow EV drivers. Public charging is definitely not as good as it should be and many new EV drivers are getting frustrated with it. We need to try to help prevent negative experiences, because those speak more loudly than positive ones do.
Sorry about the ego check, she obviously has no idea what TFL is 😂
Transport For London? 🙃
@@chrisweston9764 🤣🤣
Someone made a song about the adapter to play 45's on a 33 turntable.
As always - interesting video. This is a “US problem” though. In Europe we only use CSS connectors, also in Tesla’s, so we can charge everywhere already 😉
I dunno how to tell you guys this but though you guys are paying for FSD beta subscription you actually have to enable it in the settings. The visual you have active is clearly enhanced autopilot.
Yall are missing actual FSD and thr massive improvements from the last three months. It's much better in the highway now than autopilot as well.
Those adapters limit the amount of current through them because they aren't cooled in any way. At a 150 you'll get roughly the same but on an EA 350 you'd probably still get the same as being on a 150. Not all EA chargers are equivalent either. ABB manufactured 150s are truly 175s
Charging a Tesla at an EA charging station is a great advertisement for Electrify America.
Not really. 25% of the first station was down, and they had to drive out of their way, all while passing another opportunity to charge a Tesla Supercharger. Not a great advertisement for EA.
@@wilfredvanvalkenburgh2874 23% of Tesla chargers are inoperable, so this is a wash.
@@PhilCarbone-wt5gj what? Rate your charge has Tesla super hargers at a 99% uptime rate. Just making stuff up?
@@PhilCarbone-wt5gjlies. I charge all the time, at multiple stations throughout the county I live in, and they’re rarely down. Maybe one out of 15 will be done once in a blue moon. Why lie?
You should be asking why Elon Musk lies. By the way, how is that recall of 2 million Teslas going? @@Adrian-op5ni
Paying Tesla for FSD is probably the dumbest thing you've ever done with your money, and you've got a history of really really dumb ideas - like buying a range rover.
I got 3 months of free charging with my Tesla model 3 but I don’t even care about it. I just don’t want to waste my time to save $40 per month. I just plug in it every night in my garage and I’m done.
You obviously moved the wheel left when it wanted to exit, then blamed the car. You don’t know enough about the car to be speaking about it. Just hush. You’re spreading BS
That Tesla red looks amazing...
Y'all are getting famous!!!
glad to see some ev kindness no matter what brand you drive
200 a month is CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. That’s the cost of one night’s black car service to and from a night out. Obviously you shouldn’t use FSD beta AFTER a night out.
Wipers do need to do a better job. It’s annoying when they turn on when you don’t need them too.
Hey did you happen to try with Autel DC charger to Tesla Model 3? Yesterday, I was running out of my model 3 charging and I found destination charger from Tesla app which is on my way. But after reaching the location we found that the location doesn’t have Tesla chargers but Autel has many DC charging stations because it is AtlantaMotorsport Park. I’ve used 2 different adapters and both of them did n’t work. I wonder what is your experience?
What year is this Tesla you are charging on a CCS charger? I have a 2021 model 3 and am not even sure it supports charging on CCS.
What year model is your 3? I have a 2018 and it was sold Tesla wants $450 to retrofit it to work with CCS. Any Tesla before 2020 is CCS compatible.
Most Tesla owners use ccs chargers, but we are not allowed to use their network. They keep say we will gain access. That is so sad. It's bad when you get to a EA charging station and it is occupied by a tesla. Smdh
It seems like most problems with chargers etc... to be software. Why so much incompetence in software engineering>
FSD should be free, it's a beta feature at best. But yet fools and their money, I can't believe how many people I read are paying serious money for it.
You paid $200/month, but you're actually using advanced autopilot, not full self driving
Tesla needs to stop breaking compatibility with 3rd party adapters just like the one you are using
Roman you xxxx, you were not using fsd. That is not the beta software. That is navigate on autopilot
Respond to steering input nag: spin the left rotary input wheel and it will turn off the nag (until next time).
Right wheel will also work
I’m about to get ‘15 ms from out of state can I use that type adapter to drive it home or die it need and upgrade before.
That adapter really shows how bulky and awkward the CCS is vs the clean and simple the Tesla plug is.
CCS can support 350kw so it has to be bulky.
@@parthk2317 Not really. It is bulky because it has separate DC and AC contacts. Plus it has the external lock pin.
I think that this video shows, that while still not optimal, charging is getting better all the time. And, when EV's first hit the market, it was said that there was range anxiety, but really the big hold-up/slow-down to acceptance is charge anxiety. Stay tuned, as they say.
now its the range, used to be 300 mile range now people want 600 mile range, you'll never have enough range for the anti ev crowd
Why would anyone care???
why not find a 250 and see if it goes above?
Not on the FSD Beta so not going to happen for the city
Was it me or was there a lot of rotational shuddering while they were driving. Looks like a bent wheel or balance issue.
All fn video and till the end we get the info
The weight does not work anymore
yall rock lol
The Tesla supercharger stations is way more efficient and faster than the Electrify America charging stations for other electric cars. Tesla Model 3 doesn’t have automatic rain sensing. You guys saw the Tesla store and there are Tesla supercharging stations outside and maybe in the next video of TFLEV you can drive in the Tesla Model 3 Performance and charge your electric car over there?
I could see people forgetting and leaving their $175 adapter back at the CCS charger. Ouch. I hope there will be a reminder screen to take your adapter with you.
I have almost made this mistake. I caught myself when the plug didn’t fit back into the CCS plug holder (because the adapter was still attached).
The adapter’s weird shape that doesn’t fit the CCS holders helps prevent you from forgetting.
They should've made the adapter yellow or so instead of black that just blends right in. 😉 Other then that it's quite an expensive adapter for what it does. Telsa is like Apple I guess.
You can use the scrollwheel to stop the nagging.
i believe in the future fsd... this exit mistake was clearly because it was raining... my tesla always is scatter with the rain... its strange how like human eyes ai eyes are with the sheen on the road. i have an intersection my tesla always scored 10 out of ten... now two years later with enough snow and salt the paint lines have faded to barely existing... now the car shakes back and forth and is unsure which lane is the right lane... can't wait till tesla adds mapping
Make a chart if they are cheaper
It should be illegal for Tesla to say they stiff have full self driving since they took all the radar systems out of the cars. The camera only based cars are notably worse at self driving than those with radar.
