    What’s crazy is this is a model 3 bought 5 years ago. Today you can get a far superior, longer range, faster, better built model 3 for $34,990 or cheaper depending on your regions incentives (insane considering inflation). I got my Model Y for $15000 off because of an Oregon rebate that added $7500 onto the federal point of sale credit. That made my Quicksilver AWD longe range, white interior Y cost about $37,000. Plus I’m saving thousands on fuel cost, maintenance and hotel / Airbnb costs during road trips.
    I just got back from a 1300 mile road trip in the Y and my total charge cost was $130. That’s not including $50 for 1 night charging in an RV park in the middle of a forest in California because the free destination charger up the road was closed for the winter (price included hot showers, bathroom and other amenities). Hit 2 national parks both of which had free chargers at them. I also save hundreds if not thousands by car camping and cooking food instead of stopping and eating out or staying at hotels.

      With an EV you won’t need emissions inspections, never replace your brakes, never need oil changes and you can cheaply charge from home. You also won’t be polluting the air every time you drive. There are still a few places where you can charge for free. In some EVs you get free improvements for the life of the vehicle via software updates. Personally, I’ll never buy another ICE vehicle.

    • @BabyJesus66
      @BabyJesus66 Місяць тому +8

      Maybe if you're driving a BMW or Mercedes... my Toyota with similar miles to his Tesla... maintenance is a couple $40 oil changes per year, nothing has broke or worn out on the car ever. Sounds like the costs of tires and charging alone would easily be more than my cars maintenance plus gas. I'm on my 3rd set of tires, just replaced them, so they're basically brand new (so 12 tires total, and on a new set)... hes used 23 tires and his are bald, so technically to match my tires he'd be on his 27th tires.
      Not to mention tires are a major cause of pollution and lowering life expectancy. So if you care about the environment I don't see how these are helping out much.
      Sure his car is faster and cooler than mine but if you're going by costs alone he's spent MUCH more than I have between the car, tires, maintenance, and charging.

      @BabyJesus66 Teslas aren't hard on tires, Tesla drivers are. His model 3 weighs (4007 lbs) about as much as a small SUV/CU7. Yes, your Toyota is more reliable, but your maintenance cost far exceeds his, by a lot. I own a Tesla, but have also owned 2 Camrys. Oil changes don't make up the bulk of maintenance costs. Its the more pricey stuff thats required between 80-150k miles like spark plugs, serpentine belt, and possible water pump. Hell, the brake work alone over equals half of his Tesla maintenance. You can skip some maintenance on a new Toyota, but you will simply pay more in repairs later on.

    I've rotated my tires on my Model 3 with literally only 1 jack, and it wasn't even a low profile floor jack, and I'm not a mechanic in the slightest. If a dedicated car shop can't figure out how to rotate the tires on a Model 3, even if they just use 2 or 3 floor jacks, they don't deserve to be in business and all of their "mechanics" need to have their licenses or whatever revoked. That actually just broke my entire soul to hear that there are really people that are that incompetent that exist in our world.

    I haven't had to repair anything on my Toyota. I don't drive it that much, I live close to where I work in a small town in New Zealand. I think the car will last another 6 years. The car is like a little boxxy van, small easy to park. All the seats in the back fold down flat and I can fit 6 bales of hay in the back. I really like it. When it finally dies I want another one just like it only newer model. And if I get a newer one I'm not paying more than $16,000 I've decided. I'll buy it as a 4-6 year used Japanese import again. Yeah was gonna say. The frequency with which he has needed to replace stuff, especially stuff out-of-warranty, is really bad. What's the value in reduced maintenance costs (like oil changes etc.) and cheap fuel (charging vs gas) if you have to spend a bunch of money on repairs on a relatively new car? And that tire cost hurts.

I then sold it to my cousin and bought a brand new 2023 Model 3 and had a $55/mo full coverage $0 deductible using State Farm. I live in Michigan too, which it notorious for high insurance. I now drive more like 8K mi/yr and there was a recent insurance change in Michigan that rose everyone’s amount, but I’m about $80ish/mo now. Not bad at all! The biggest thing for me is that I have a perfect record, and bundled my auto, home, and personal life insurance together.

This saves me about $15/mo.

    I actually saw some old tires from a Tesla recently, and yes the have a foam cushion lining the center of the tires. The only bad thing about waiting till the tires are nearly bald to replace is you're at more risk for a blowout, and when it's raining with driving on wet roads you're at more risk of losing control, and stopping distance is increased. After I learned about the risks, I buy tires a lot sooner than I used to. If you've got a spare vehicle that sits parked most of the time, even if the tires look brand new with full tread, they say old tires will go bad and at risk of a blowout.

      And yes, they do expire. You should change them even if they don't have wear after 8-10 yrs or so. I could be wrong on the amount of years so use your own research it's been awhile since I last paid attention to that so maybe it's changed.

Buy a used early 2000s Japanese car that is super reliable, cheap maintenance and cheap on gas. Save your money and invest it in the stock market. Cars are meant to take you from point A to B. That's it. It's been proven that material things make you happy the first few weeks but after that your happiness is the same as it was before you purchased it.
