There's just something so charming and iconic with all of Don Bluth's animations. They're all so incredibly detailed, smooth and have stood the test ot time.
I never got to play Dragon's Lair in an arcade, but my dad had the PC version of the game when I was a kid. I remember dying so much in the game that I just gave up on it. I never got to play Space Ace though. I might have to try to see if I can find copies of these old games.

Great memories. I use to spend my weekends as kid mastering all these moves . I was so proud the day I got through it on one quarter and one guy. Now I play it on my phone..😂😂😂😂

Minus those moments where his larger body keeps him from getting hurt, I can't really understand the relevance of Dexter/Ace's transformation. He mainly fights with his blaster and not his strength.
I think his younger version is not his real version. From the context I saw at end I'm guessing he was de-aged by villain to make him vulnerable, maybe that's why he uses blaster because he is used to fight in adult for than a teenage form. I never play this game so I don't know much about the story. I only know about this thanks Don Bluth's art style in cutscenes .
The villain of the game, Borf, had an ultimate weapon he called the Infanto Ray. His goal was to conquer Earth by turning everyone into babies, rendering Earth defenseless.
Not to say it’s bad though. I think some of the reason why people had strong opinions on Bligh is due to how many movies he produced in the 90s. He is certainly one of the all time greats in animation

It seems that the infantoray really does work as intended. It doesn’t just age you down physically, it also ages you down mentally too! Dexter in his younger form wasn’t just skinny, but he was also anxious and far more prone to running away than fighting, despite being armed with a blaster! However, in his normal age state he’s calm and collected and even calculated, taking as long as he needs to react properly and plan out his moves in situations that would have his younger self running for the hills. It also appears that his energize wristwatch actively fights its effects, it overwrites the infantoray’s residual energy and lets Dexter/Ace fight at his peak, as brief as it is, which makes me wonder. What would it do if Ace wasn’t being affected by the infantoray’s power?
Game was beautiful, but you had to have the patience of a Saint to get through it and the reflexes of a coked-out Mountain Dew bender to time it all right.
How do you even play this game? Like, do you press ⬆️⬇️⬅️➡️ and space? Is it a 50/50 chance if the direction is at an angle and you got to choose one or the other?
@juanjosemendivil1626 yea, it's 4 directions plus the gun shooting. So according to the scene you gotta figure out which action input the game wants you to use. It was made to inhale quarters. It becomes memorization
Thanks for the reminder, OF HOW INTENSELY ANNOYING THAT DAMN WOMAN WAS! The quarters I dumped into this and Dragons Lair back in the day. And in both I hated The Damsel. I never called her Kimmy, hated her that much. Constantly in need of rescue but never appreciated it when she was. 😖 So annoying. And Yeah, 15 yr old me took that personally. Silly, I Know! But still true.
Yeah I didn't like them either. Kimmy at least seemed like she was trying to help a little, but both of them seemed to just be there to need rescue. It makes them feel fake. When going through challenges, I want a partner, not a human prize.

QuickTime game before QuickTime games - and before instructional arrows on the careen. You just had to know which way to press and when to do it.

The attract reel for the arcade showed that Ace took a hit from Borf's Infanto Ray. That's what made him de-age into little Dexter.
Also, except for the final battle with Borf, you could play the entire game without transforming into Ace.

I spent SO many quarters learning to play that game on "Ace" mode. Now I still know every beat and nuance by heart. Such an interesting piece of work.
