      Here's what i don't understand obviously U are a bit biased towards apple ur lack of research for other platforms just seems to always Blow my mind... "Windows Copilot Runtime" is basically Apple Intents API. WHy would microsoft take 5-10gb of extra space using both proprietary and Opensource models like SD and their own PHI model then basically Force u to have to go and redownload them 😥?

      Myself, I want to run my own choice of models, uncensored, warts and all: why? Alignment teaches an LLM to generate "desired" outcomes that are lies in conflict with their unsupervised learning data. It also invariably is biased according to what someone has decided is the desired narrative. Added to that, there is the result of it making the LLM dumber in regards to its reasoning capacity.
      An M1 can run an LLM, within the limits of its main memory, of which 16 GB RAM was the upper limit for the M1 out of the gate. That's a bit limiting, unless Apple has perfected making that processing capacity time-efficient with reading parameters out of the SSD without lots of delays. My M1 MacMini won't be comparable to the Copilot+ PCs or the M4, or the M4 family. It's impossible to know as of now how much practical difference there is in capacity for LLMs between the M4 and the Copilot+ PCs. In both cases, current information suggests they're pretty close to equal, but to me, short of making SSD-based LLM execution, the practical size of the LLMs is limited by main RAM.
      I'm curious what the other M4 variants will be in regards to TOPS since that's now more of an emphasis for competition. Also, how much RAM such machines will have, etc., because that's what will matter a huge deal.

    the problem with recall is that Microsoft left a lot of questions without answers with lead to people doing the questions and giving the answers to those questions by themselves. apple smartly gave a LOT of information about how the data is used to make their ai work, which basically left no room for concerns about privacy (the people concerned are the ones that don't even trust Apple)

    Apple seem very focused on making Apple Intelligence very unintrusive and secure, that clearly isn't Microsoft's intentions with CoPilot+ this Recall feature is so sketchy, imagine being a hacker and literally have Microsoft doing the hard work collecting all the sensitive information for you. the last thing Microsoft should be doing is making a hacker's job easier.

    If you notice, Microsoft immediately stopped the “recall” feature. These products are years in the making. Introducing or discussing them means they are ready. Working out the kinks is one thing, but the main process shows how they work, which is undeniable. That’s why people find the holes in them. For Apple, it’s a priority to keep their customers in the Apple ecosystem. For Microsoft, it’s always about gathering as much data from customers as possible.
    To me, Microsoft AI feels like a temp employee looking over your shoulder and taking notes on everything you do without you knowing what they’re noting or what they’re doing with it. Apple AI, on the other hand, is like a personal secretary that comes with your device, ready to answer questions by going through your notes and providing the information, then waiting for the next request. Apple’s AI is already part of the system and doesn’t need to copy everything. Thanks to other smart people testing it, we now know that Microsoft AI is not secure. This is the advantage of a closed ecosystem environment.

    I think that both are overhyped right now. What WOULD be really useful is being able to put an AI in "learning mode", use your PC for a whole day or week, then have the AI say "okay, I can take over x, y and z tasks - and here's some other suggestions". Basically a proactive AI. What we have instead right now are retroactive AIs that are closer to autocompletes than AGI.

    I am not sure why this comparison is taking place between Apple and Microsoft. I would suggest they are difficult to compare due to their AI focus areas. Microsoft AI focus is specific for Windows PC users and Microsoft Suite of products and services such as Edge, Teams, Microsoft 365 for business and personal productivity. Apple AI focus is more general in support Apple iPhone product and services integrated across laptop, tablet and watch products etc. If you are a Microsoft Windows PC and Microsoft 365 products and services, the promise of Copilot AI support is a game changer for Window and Android users.
    Clearly the AI Recall feature was not ready for prime time. That said, when it comes to integrating within Windows 11, Copilot AI will complete something that has not happened to date within personal computing, a computer that understands you, the user. Copilot Recall is the missing component to make all this work together along with other updated AI features. I for one cannot wait to experience this new phase of computing.
    Let’s see what happens in the next few months when Recall is released with the security issues addressed. I predict business and personal productivity will dramatically improve when Recall is integrated into everyday tasks.

    I’m excited for Apple Intelligence, but it’s way too early to tell who clearly has a physical lead, seeing as the public doesn’t have hands on with the software just yet. But based on the announcement, this is a remarkably huge leap for Apple. Knowing Apple, they are only going to make improvements to the software as we wait for it to release, so there’s a good chance that we may see a better product, come soon.

    With all due respect to Vadim, I suspect Musk knows a bit more about OpenAI and how the code can, once given permission to access a small portion of an iPhone, infiltrate other parts of it should it choose to do so. Admittedly, ChatGPT is not as bad as Google or Microsoft's AI systems but it is not a perfect situation.
    People haven't really grasped the fact that AI on a phone will know virtually EVERYTHING about you - your interests, politics, attitudes to authority, relationships, 'adult' inclinations, 'substances' you might like... everything. If that information fell into unfriendly or controlling hands, they would have a lot of power over you.

      You already found it, but the raw number is mean basically nothing, since there are multiple method to measure it. First Apple used FP16 to measure, and when Snapdragon X Elite started their AI marketing, Apple also switched to INT8, it's have bigger numbers.. by the way Snapdragon X Elite measured in INT4, and there is an average 59% diff between INT8 and INT4, so Apple 38 TOPS (INT8) is about equal with 60 TOPS (INT4, this is the type, where the Snapdragon have 45 TOPS).

      Its an old measurement, used to measure operations a cpu, gpu, npu or other processor can do. Its the number 1 way to measure NPUs because thats all NPUs do.

    What I know for sure is that none of the technologies is foolproof. Either can be hacked. The problem is that apple is clever at making you beleive it is not possible however they already have all you data with them.

    It's too early to speak anything about AI. And it would be interesting to see how it performs on a M1 MacBook for example, with a weaker NPU. In my opinion, Microsoft would still lead the charts in AI. Coming to the greedy part, which Apple is really good at, is restricting it to only iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. So much for the processor supremacy that Apple couldn't get it work with previous generations. So that concludes it, processor supremacy is irrelevant if you cant bring a important feature to previous generation phones.

    Currently investigating several AI models for work use. Many of the AI models are great at some things, mediocre at a lot of things, but compromising of your data at nearly all points.
    Of the current AI models, CoPilot Pro is the least intrusive. But it still uses your data for training, it just says it won’t make your data public (unlike other platforms).
    Having not tried the Apple Intelligence yet because it’s not commercially available, I do think if it works as Apple described, it will be vastly superior because it’s not just AI technology, but also private and secure.

    They all do on-service things. Apple introduced things Google mentioned at the end of 2023. For apps on device they all do it on device, Microsoft, Google, Apple. For some other things though, they all have to use the cloud for best results. If Apple AI was so much better, they wouldn't have to leverage Open AI who is using Microsoft Azure. They wouldn't be looking to use Google for Gemini. AI needs a search engine. Microsoft and Google have that. Apple doesn't ...

    * as BETA
    * US English only
    So not made for any other language. You can probably not summarize a longer text in spanish, german or italian already in 2024.

    $20/month is too much fot GPT activation to Word/etc. on top of Office 365 offering. You can use that in VS Code at $10/month, anyways.
    Apple is still overpriced walled garden and many of workflows presented here are, frankly, not appealing to me. Android has quite good set of own AI features (e.g. in Pixel and Samsung).
    Phi-3-mini comparison: soon we know. Microsoft may have had longer time to finetune their model. Using less parameters reduces latency significantly.
