Racaniello should get the U.S. National Medal of Science for his tireless advocacy, education efforts to increase public understanding of science, and embodiment of all that is great about the Scientific Method.
Awesome episode! I absolutely Love you virus! love the name. Filoviruses are near and dear to my heart as I worked with Ebola and Marburg envelope-pseudotyped onto HIV cores at Gladstone for my post-doc. Yet another way of working with these nasty viruses outside of a BSL-4 lab. But the one filovirus that always intrigued me was Reston. We know it showed up in Reston, VA in non-human primates from the Philippines. But how did the virus get to the Philippines in the first place? Or did it really need to have come from somewhere else for it to exist in the Philippines? Exhaustive Pubmed and Google searches have not been successful for me. Any insight on this?
The court did NOT say you can't wear a mask. It said the Gov't agency that mandated them did not have the Constitutional or legal authority to issue the mandate. There is an enormous difference between those two things. For anyone who doubts Vincent said that, the quote is , "and today is even worst because a judge decides that we can't wear masks, and I think that for law....". It's at 1:12:20.
The chicken is on the right side of the image, running to the left. The bright white patch is the base of it's neck. The feathers closer to the right edge show motion. This could have come right from an Impressionist painter's canvas.

Really appreciate that all of you take the time to do this.
so happy to see Cathy is back. Miss her articulate, intelligent and warm presence when she is not on.
Agree!
Fascinating discussion. Thank you!
I appreciate that Vincent wore a mask when he didn't legally have to.

In the extremely funny satirical letter, from Alan, you seemed to have missed a very funny part, where he references "J. Bov. Scat." ie. bull sh1t.
