Violin Sonata Op. 34 in A minor by Amy Marcy Beach (1867-1944)
1. Allegro Moderato
2. Scherzo: Molto vivace
3. Largo con dolore
4. Allegro con fuoco
Both this Beach composition and the violinist are new discoveries for me. Mr. Delmoni has kept the romantic violin sound of Heifetz and plays Amy Beach's sonata in the style of the romantic period in which it was composed. The pianist matches him. Truly beautiful, both the piece and the superb playing.
It is unusual that Delmoni sounds so much like Heifetz yet never studied with him - for many years he mostly studied with Dorothy DeLay. And this is a wonderful composition, perfectly played. Beach was an accomplished pianist but largely self taught in composition and wrote this amazing sonata at age 30. She accompanied Franz Kneisel when he premiered it the same year it was written (1897)
Incredible composition, and wonderful performance! Bravo!
A wonderful sonata. And Mr. Delmoni your sound here is gorgeous! Would be great on a programme with the Saint'Saens or Frank Sonata.
Very beautiful Mr. Delmoni. And that Guadagnini sounds luscious!
More sweet than bitter, yet excellent blend of both tastes
Beautiful. Thank you. [It would be nice/useful to add time-links to each movement.]
Lovely recording - is it commercially available anywhere?
Sarah Westwick Hello Sarah - I’ll be happy to send you a copy if you’ll furnish me with your home address.
