Very cold! The Rockies are only warm for around 2 months of summer, so the rest of the year you need to dress very warm.

Nice video. I had a question though. Does visiting these places involve low, moderate or intense walking. Currently I have some knee issue in one leg and was wondering if this is something which is doable or not. Thanks for your guidance.

Hi there, we just visited Banff and Jasper in July, last month. We stayed in Downtown Calgary and visited the majority of Banff National Park with about 3 hours to 4 hours drive each day (depending if we went to Lake Louise or some of the farther places). On the Jasper day, visiting the Columbia Icefield and some of the farther places, we stayed in Hinton, Alberta, a small highway town which is about an hour and a half drive from Medicine Lake or Maligne Lake. We visited Edmonton the next day so I’m not sure if Hinton would work for you but that’s how we did it.

@@candace6191 Not sure if still need the info but here goes. I've been to the Banff region twice and have a trip upcoming. Canmore is probably my favorite mountain town by a good amount. It's just the right size without being overly touristy...like how I feel Banff has become (It's still super nice as well though).
I'll point you to the site that helped me a bunch. TheBanffblog has tons of info about visiting not just Banff but all the surrounding areas.
From my experience you should choose WHEN you go very carefully as lots of the places are closed if you go in the early spring. I have gone in May and September. May was much less crowded BUT lots of places to the North were closed (Peyto, Moraine, Herbert, Cavil, etc) so we didn't even bother to try and go to Jasper. I suppose in theory you could still go with snowshoes or crampons but since I am from Hawaii that's way out of my comfort zone lol. The mountains were also more scenic in May as there was still a good amount of snow on them, it even snowed 2 days we were there.
September - from what I'm told isn't as busy as peak July, August. The prices for rooms are still more expensive then May though. However all hikes should still be open and Larch season should be open towards the back half.
As for base- Canmore is excellent but if your plan includes Jasper. Spend at least 1 night.
Side note: Mount Robson is to the west of Jasper and is the tallest peak in Canada. It's quite the site. If you go from mid-August to about mid- September you can also see Chinook Salmon during the run. Rearguard falls and Valemount are great locations to see the impressive fish.

Nice video! One thing since it was shown. Grassi Lakes- Is in the Kananaskis Country area and requires a pass to park and use.
Grassi Lakes is also currently CLOSED (March 2023) and has been since April of 2022, while still possible to hike I would strongly suggest you do NOT do so. Most information states it is closed for improvement/construction and will re-open in Spring 2023. However I believe it has been delayed to Summer 2023 due to rockfall dangers.
The AlbertaParks is the official site for this region and has current trail conditions and any hazard warnings like bear activity or construction notices.

@@rayngrace Discovery passes are for up to 7 people in a single vehicle.
      For 2023 parking has changed.
Lake Louise lakeshore parking now has a fee from Mid March (2023 season) to October (unsure of date).
The park and ride shown in the video is FREE but you do need a reservation and the Parks Canada site is pretty bad, just be patient and be willing to look all over to make your reservation.
Moraine Lake parking is CLOSED and you cannot access via private vehicle. The only way to visit Moraine Lake is to reserve a shuttle.
For lodging in Jasper. Be advised that's it's pretty expensive and much more limited than in the Banff / Canmore area. If you're willing to drive an hour to get into Jasper you could stay in Hinton for more reasonable lodging. Personally I stayed at the Pine Bungalows in a cabin. Really nice and right by the river and they were the most reasonable (other than hostel) at the time. I had booked Alpine Village Jasper but covid killed that trip.

Park passes are purchased when you enter Banff National Park on the highway, you can buy a daily pass or a longterm pass when u drive through the park entrance!!

    • @Komainu959
      @Komainu959 Рік тому

There are lots of options but Parks Canada site only has the prices for Annual Passes- Currently 1 Adult Pass is 72.25 or a Family Pass (Up to 7 in a car) is 145.25.
Daily passes are available but only per person and are about 11 for each adult. Children 17 and under are free.
You can order the Discovery yearly passes online. You can also buy them at the entrance station (I would recommend not to do this as the line can be long) or at places like the Canmore Visitor Center (Yearly and Daily passes)- which I recommend. Canmore is a beautiful mountain town (better than Banff in my opinion) and is more than worth a stop.

Hi! My Airbnb was called the Cozy Creekside Bed and Breakfast in Canmore. The Airbnb is super nice and a great price, but I wouldn't say it's very close to many of the places I visited as they are all very spread out, so a car is definitely needed to get everywhere. If you don't have a car, it might be best to stay in the town of Banff even though it is much more expensive, because it is easier to get to a lot of the attractions from there. Hope this helps!!

@@nehj6102 The easiest way to determine drive times is to decide where you are going to stay and then pin it in Google Maps. After that pin the other locations you want to see and route- Maps has options to give estimates for specific departure days/times.
Example: Middle of Canmore to Lake Louise is approximately 50-55 minutes if you depart on a Monday at 0700 and travel in private vehicle.
