I have a question about modelling of buried flexible pipes in plaxis..do we use line contraction there? How to decide the value

Hi there, the line contraction in plaxis depends on the construction methodology. You are essentially shrinking the pipe geometry so that it's smaller and so the earth moves inwards to fill the space. This created settlement. If you are just interested in checking the strength of the pipe I wouldn't use a line contraction. Just model it up to that stage and then check the hoop thrust and bending moment

@@civil-engineering-ai but flexible pipe doesn't contract in soil i think so we don't need to use line contraction or am I wrong somewhere ... plus during graph generation only displacement can be calculated there is no option for hooo stress
