You know what, that was an interesting bit of insight about jealousy being a sign that you weren't working hard enough. When you said that, it struck me that when I feel jealous, it's almost always due to frustration regarding my own creative process. My depression is bad, so I'm not writing as much as I want. Or my energy levels are low, so I'm not moving as quickly as I would prefer. Thanks for re-contextualizing that. I feel guilty sometimes when I'm jealous of others who are achieving goals faster than I am, but I need to focus more on the internal things I have going on that are getting in my way.

I get this comment. Sometimes I wonder, is it jealousy of what they've done or jealousy at their perceived lack of the same obstacles I face.

You look so happy when talking about your marriage and partner! Congratulations! Also turning feelings of envy to thoughts of "I didn't realize I wanted this so much" is impossibly wise. And thank you for your informative coffee-making-tutorial sequence. So aesthetic, so vibe, so coffee. Your shot composition invokes a sense of realism and longing. I anticipate a Best Cinematography nod at the Academy Awards.

*Le gasp* You've been married for a while now???!!! DAMN! CONGRATS KATE! I'm so glad that it's going well. Also side note: It makes me smile like such an idiot to see the way you talk about him, the way your face lights up, and the way you smile when you do. It's so cute.
    That pool looks so peaceful.
I can also do the visualization of my stuff as I think about story scenes or even as I'm writing it. It's like I'm not writing it, but instead am actually watching it play out in real time. It's kind of cool.
I have two characters that live in my head rent free and it's Kit and Samantha (Sam). They're fiances/a married couple and they are so cute and I do everything I can to, at the very least, mention them.

So it took me far to long to finish this video because this week has felt so busy, and I think I made several comments but that’s fine to. But I have a few things stuck in my head now. It’s wild to me that not only has Kate been uploading these videos for years but that I have been watching them for years. The nature of para-social relationships is weird and I am so great full that I have been able to meet Kate and talk to her and be able to watch her videos. I don’t think I am the only person who finds her videos hugely inspiring and I have never met a person who is more supportive of other people and their art whatever that art is. So happy birthday, congrats on 700 videos, congrats on your marriage and I can’t wait to see what is next for you Kate. :)

Hi Kate! I usually have an idea of a series in the beginning. This one that I'm working on currently has gone through many ideas, but my brain has reached a consensus lol 😅I'm planning on a quartet. I didn't know it was going to be four until I started writing differently. This time, instead of relying on word counts, I'm mainly writing with my gut and trusting the process. Fun fact, I recently added my third POV when the original outline called for one. Whoops 😂I've found joy in writing again doing it this way. I've recently gotten into Frieda McFadden's books and Anni Taylor's books. The Inmate and Never Lie by McFadden are my top two! Don't really care for the Housemaid by her. So far, I've only read The Six by Taylor. It does make me comforted to know not all books are a hit with me 😀

I know that it needs to be because the first book is all about setting up the characters and taking them on the first part of their journey while the reader gets to know them. But also setting up this multiple realm conflict that can't possibly be resolved in the same book where all of those pieces to set off this conflict are being set up. So at least a duology and maybe more.

This is the first video of yours I have seen but I love your personality. I'll keep an eye out for your work.
I would love to learn more about how your writing process has changed over time. I am still a newish writer and I definitely think my writing has a ways to go before it meets my vision for my current WIP but I am excited to say I think I have all the scenes needed for the first book (I intend to write a series).
I think doing short story competitions might be a good way for me to develop my writing muscles, are there particular sites you recommend I look at for finding these?
Also, I am considering participating in NaNoWriMo for the first time this year, any tips for newbies?

speaking to the standalone turn into series..i didn't necessarily have that happen but as i was writing the first draft of what i knew was book one, i realized three quarters through that something was off and that i was actually working on book one and two like combined. so that's gonna be fun to unwind lol but that project is currently shelved so future me gets to deal with that

Hey Kate, I love your videos so much currently, I have 3 WIP and spend years just outlining them. Do you have any suggestions on how to actually start writing?

When you did the June write-a-book-in-24-hours on Closet full of Cauldrons, you showed an outline that you'd done. Did you ever go thru how you plotted that or what software you used? I can't remember if you did an episode on it but I do remember that you said you didn't have any plot holes and you felt really solid about it going in for second draft.

Loved this video! Would love to know if you have been trad published with any of your pen names? And if so, it would be cool to learn about that journey without giving away deets such as pen name, agent, etc. Just would be interested in the stats!

My migreaines are worst November, December and January as in where I live that is the darkest times and my mood gets effected by it. I sometimes can work through my migraines, but I get really forgetful when I have them so I am never sure what I have done.
